Chapter Twenty-Four: Crossing Boundaries

After hesitating for a moment, Wang Yao reminded himself to curb his curiosity. Curiosity killed the cat; he must never forget the lessons of the ancients! He extended one index finger and pressed the red button for the eighteenth floor on the ground, and the elevator started moving silently.

"6, 12, 18..." Much faster than Wang Yao had expected, the elevator display screen stopped after showing only 3 numbers. The elevator doors opened silently, and outside the elevator appeared to be a room. A middle-aged man sat behind a desk facing the elevator door, coldly watching Wang Yao.

Wang Yao stepped out of the elevator, somewhat bewildered. Logically, he should have arrived in the Immortal Realm by now, but the room looked more like an office. The man was working at a desk on the right, while on the left were two sofas flanking a coffee table with a potted plant on it.

Next to the sofa is a water dispenser, and on the wall behind the sofa hangs a banner with four large characters: "People's Livelihood is Difficult".

What... what kind of organization has he entered? It doesn't look like the celestial realm. However, his body suddenly shuddered.

"Tap tap tap..."

"Entering an environment rich in spiritual energy, meeting the absorption requirements, would you like to absorb the spiritual energy of the environment?"

This... Wang Yao was dumbfounded. Just now, outside the Civilization Building, he had deliberately examined it, and the system clearly indicated that the spiritual power was "none". He had only been in the elevator for a few seconds, and his spiritual power was already abundant? This is too amazing!

"Are you here to take care of something or to absorb spiritual energy?" the man sitting behind the table asked. "I'm here to register."

"Uh...I...this...this is the Immortal Realm?" Wang Yao was so shocked that he felt like he was dreaming. Hearing the man ask him a question, he couldn't help but ask back.

"You crossed over here yourself, how could you not know where this place is?... You... are you some kind of treacherous immortal who went to the Heavenly Court to petition?" The man said, standing up nervously and looking at Wang Yao warily.

Wang Yao had no idea what the man meant by "the 'mischievous immortal'," but judging from the man's appearance, he guessed that the "mischievous immortal" was probably no good, and hurriedly shook his head repeatedly.

He understood, however, that since the word "immortal" was mentioned and there was such abundant spiritual energy, this place must undoubtedly be the immortal realm.

"I'm here to absorb spiritual energy, not some wicked immortal. This is my first time crossing realms, and I don't know anything. I hope the immortal will forgive me." Wang Yao said to the man with a smile. He had read cultivation novels and received systematic training in cultivation knowledge, so he knew how to greet an immortal.

"If you're here to absorb spiritual energy, why didn't you say so earlier? You were acting so suspiciously, I almost called the security office! Come here and register!" The man frowned and scolded.

"Oh... I'm sorry, this is my first time here, I don't know anything..." Wang Yao hurriedly apologized as he walked to the man's side.

The man took out a form and handed it to Wang Yao. Wang Yao looked at it closely and saw that it contained questions such as name, workplace, purpose of entering the Immortal Realm, and current spiritual power level. Wang Yao took the pen from the man and filled in the information one by one.

The man took the form that Wang Yao had filled out, glanced at it casually, and was about to put it in his desk when he suddenly stopped. He looked at the form again and then looked at Wang Yao repeatedly, making Wang Yao feel very uncomfortable, wondering if he had done something wrong.

Had he bowed too much on Wenming Road and messed up his hair? Or had a button come undone, revealing something he shouldn't have? Wang Yao was wondering when the man stood up.

"Are you... a newly appointed matchmaker?" the man asked, frowning.

"Yes...?" Wang Yao nodded, puzzled.

"Oh dear, why didn't you give me a heads-up before coming? I could have prepared a feast to welcome you. Look at you, you really like to joke around. You didn't even introduce yourself. So unassuming. Come, come, please sit down. I have some fine immortal tea here, please have a taste..."

The man's face lit up with a smile in an instant. He kept being polite to Wang Yao, and even bent down to take out a small jar from the cabinet under his desk. He carefully picked out some tea leaves and brewed a cup of tea for Wang Yao. Wang Yao was dumbfounded. Was he really that famous in the Immortal Realm? Surely not?

"Excuse me... do you know me? Who are you...?" Looking at the teacup the man carefully handed him, Wang Yao took the tea and asked with a belly full of doubt.

"Oh, I'm just a gatekeeper, my surname is Liu, you can just call me Little Liu. Of course I know you, you're from the office, one of Lu Xian's people, specializing in doing the great work of communicating between Yin and Yang and harmonizing all families. Everyone in our immortal realm speaks of you with sincere respect!"

The man stood in front of Wang Yao and spoke respectfully.

"Oh..." Wang Yao nodded, and he understood a little. What the hell was this "admiration"? This guy surnamed Liu should be admiring the position of the Matchmaker.

This kid is probably similar to Hu Fei and Luan Chu; either he's a bachelor or someone like Hu Fei who simply doesn't want to offend me and is afraid I'll cause trouble.

"Huh? You can sit down and talk, why are you standing here?" Wang Yao thought to himself, just about to savor the immortal tea in his hand, when he looked up and saw that Xiao Liu was still standing in front of him. Wang Yao was not used to this kind of etiquette, so he hurriedly said.

"Oh dear, there's no place for me to sit in front of you, sir. Please enjoy your tea slowly. This immortal tea was picked from the tea mountain of the Queen Mother of the West's uncle's nephew. It takes a hundred years for a single leaf to grow. Drinking it will greatly benefit us immortals in breaking through our bottlenecks."

Xiao Liu kept inviting Wang Yao to taste the tea. Wang Yao was quite interested in this "immortal tea." Although he was a noble immortal, he had never actually enjoyed anything that was truly related to the word "immortal."
