The two statues are quite different. One has bull horns on its head and is dragging a wailing creature with chains. The other looks like a lizard and holds a trident, with a humanoid creature struggling on the tip of the trident.
The statue was extremely crude, yet it was as tall as a twenty or thirty-story building in the human world. In a city where all buildings were no more than two or three stories high, it appeared exceptionally majestic and awe-inspiring.
As Wang Yao got closer, he discovered that the rows of demonic armies, resembling twin brothers, were marching out in neat formation between the two statues.
Moreover, on either side of the two statues, there was a stone castle about half the height of the statues, yet still much taller than other buildings in the city.
The two castles face each other in a semi-circle, like a heavily fortified fortress rising abruptly in the city. Apart from the feet of the two statues, Wang Yao could not find any other way to enter between the two castles.
He had no choice but to take a long detour, following the edge of the castle connected to the statue of the demon holding a trident, all the way to the other end of the castle, where two identical demon statues stood tall.
Beneath the two demon statues, Wang Yao finally discovered a large group of demons. They were helping the old and carrying the young, walking slowly in a line between the two castles, while many war demons and fierce demons patrolled around them.
These demons generally had intricate tattoos on their faces, including women and children. Their clothes were much better than those of the divine villagers that Wang Yao had seen in Dark Moon Village. They were mainly long robes with wide collars and sleeves, and from a distance, they seemed to be of decent quality.
However, their expressions were very wooden, and they all hung their heads dejectedly, mechanically moving forward slowly with the movement of the demon in front of them.
Seeing that the demons were heavily guarded, Wang Yao dared not go any further. He turned to look at the tall walls of the castle beside him. The two castles facing each other seemed to form a city within a city. The city gate was the four demon statues in front and behind, and the city center was between the two castles.
What exactly is there? Why did the demons move all the city's residents inside? And why are so many strange demon armies emerging from the castle? Although the castle appears to cover a large area, it is, after all, a city within a city; how many people can it really hold?
Wang Yao was filled with doubt. He saw that the castle walls were made of huge stones, which were not tightly joined together. It seemed that climbing them would not be too difficult. So he picked at the gaps between the stones on the wall and began to try to climb up.
After climbing over a large section of giant rocks, the stones above became noticeably smaller and more compact. However, Wang Yao's physical strength was now formidable, and he was still able to ascend smoothly using only those narrow footholds.
Soon he had climbed above the tops of the surrounding houses. Looking out, the whole city was quiet and deserted. The wind, carrying a whistling sound, echoed ghostly over the city. There was a lookout hole above the wall he was climbing, which Wang Yao carefully avoided.
The section of wall he chose led to a short corridor that connected to two fortresses on the castle, each riddled with lookout holes. He looked up at the distance between himself and the corridor, and was about to push himself up further when he suddenly heard voices coming from the lookout holes not far away.
"This stupid thing can defeat a Primal Demon? I don't believe it."
"What good is it if you don't believe me? As long as the Demon Lord believes me, our Eternal Night City will have to sacrifice itself."
"Do you think sacrificing these demons is worth it? Especially those little brats, they all have the potential to become like us in the future. Even if they can't compare to us, isn't it too wasteful to sacrifice them like this?"
"Silence! How dare you or I question the Demon Lord's decisions? You'd better watch out!"
"Hmph, I think that foreign devil surnamed Sa is extremely suspicious."
"Let's say less. The battle with those false gods is at a critical juncture. The Demon Lord wants to humiliate the other lords with a great victory, so temporarily borrowing external forces to take some radical measures is a last resort. Besides, this thing does not conflict with the original demon and also increases our strength."
"I just feel sorry for our Eternal Night City..."
"What's there to regret? Demons are incredibly prolific. Believe me, in a few years, this Eternal Night City will be overrun with demons, becoming as worthless as the original demons?"
After exchanging a few words with the two people in the viewing tunnel, Wang Yao moved a little further away and then climbed up. Before long, he quietly climbed onto the corridor.
The entire castle is crescent-shaped and consists of several fortresses and towers, which are connected to each other by the corridors that Wang Yao was standing on. After Wang Yao went up, he looked to both sides and saw that there were no demons on guard in the corridors. They seemed to be hiding inside the fortresses and towers.
Looking down from the wide corridor, you see a large square in the middle of the two castles.
In the center of the square was a huge circular hole that resembled a volcano. Wang Yao could see that the crater was red and burning with flames inside. Every now and then, flames would leap out of the crater, licking at the darkness outside with their claws.
A white-robed cosmos stands not far from the crater, its hands raised high towards the sky, seemingly performing a ritual.
The firelight illuminated his face with exceptional clarity, revealing his white beard and hair, and his chiseled features, with his lips moving incessantly as if he were chanting something.
A few demons stood scattered a little distance away from the white-robed foreign god, appearing to be both spectators and protectors, maintaining order.
The demon warriors that Wang Yao had seen before, who looked like twin brothers, were climbing out of the crater in groups. As soon as they came out, they lined up in neat rows and walked out without hesitation, while the demons of Eternal Night City obediently climbed into the crater from the other side one by one.
