“Oh…can you tell me how you got this? If…you killed the immortal and peeled it off yourselves, then I’ll disregard what I asked,” Wang Yao said.
Upon hearing Wang Yao's words, Qingyun's face darkened. "Damn it, aren't you forcing me to answer? If I don't speak, wouldn't that confirm that the Liang Clan killed the immortal and skinned him? How could I possibly jump into this trap myself?"
“How could our Liang tribe do such a thing? This was a gift from the Hu tribe to our chieftain. Our chieftain was afraid of causing controversy, so he didn’t use it and put it in the storeroom,” Qingyun hurriedly explained.
"So, according to you, this immortal was killed by the monkeys?"
Wang Yao lowered his head and opened the immortal's skin, turning over the facial features. Without the support of muscles and bones, the immortal's face was limp and had an eerie sadness about it, making it impossible to discern the immortal's original appearance.
"Well...we don't know." Qingyun shook his head repeatedly.
"Damn it, killing an immortal and skinning him, you've got some nerve. I'm taking this treasure." Wang Yao said, picking up the immortal's skin.
"Are you sure?" Qingyun looked at Wang Yao in astonishment. You see, although this treasure vault is not the most important one for the Liang clan, and most of the things inside are of little use to the Liang clan, there are still many things in the treasure vault that are more valuable than this immortal skin.
Take that "Blood Burning Manual" for example. If Wang Yao were to take it to the Shu Clan, it would be enough to make Qiao Bushi bleed a lot, and he would have to follow Wang Yao around and shout a few words of luck.
Moreover, as an immortal, Wang Yao should have had many opportunities to obtain such things in the immortal realm. After immortals undergo tribulation, they often leave behind immortal remains. The natural remains of high-level immortals are of much better quality than those that are peeled off raw.
Therefore, Qingyun never expected that Wang Yao would actually take a liking to this immortal skin.
Little did he know that Wang Yao had killed quite a few spirits, yet he hadn't collected a single immortal skin. This was mainly because the scene was filthy, with skins and fragments of spirits mixed together, and Wang Yao had no interest in cleaning them up.
But this immortal skin was perfectly clean, just like a painted mask. Looking at it, Wang Yao couldn't help but think of the ghost artifact he had seen in the underworld. However, the ghost artifact would eventually turn into yin energy and disappear completely, but this immortal skin could be preserved for a long time.
Moreover, Wang Yao had another important use for this immortal skin, but there was no need to tell Qingyun about it.
“This is it.” Wang Yao nodded and put the immortal skin into his Qiankun.
After taking out the treasure, Qingyun wanted to take Wang Yao for a stroll in Wangxiang Valley, but Wang Yao was thinking about contacting the fairy maiden and politely declined, only asking him to arrange a hotel for him to stay in.
After entering the hotel room, Wang Yao tried to contact the fairy again, but it took him most of the day before he finally got through.
"Xiao Wang, the operation is canceled. We'll each return to the Immortal Realm through the nearest passage." Before Wang Yao could even complain, the fairy maiden said this.
"Oh...wh...what? What did you say?" Wang Yao was stunned for a moment before he reacted. He immediately became anxious. What the hell was going on?
"The monkey tribe reported your massacre of the delegation to the Heavenly Court. They are very angry and have ordered us to immediately end the operation and return to report for further investigation." The fairy's voice was muffled in the earpiece.
"Uh..." Wang Yao never expected that this matter would be related to him. He blinked and instantly exploded. "What the hell? How can he say that I killed him? We need solid evidence to arrest Eunuch Wei, but they don't need it when they accuse us?"
"The monkey tribe took some of my and Caixia's footage and reported it. In order to cover for those exiles, we had to fight a few times, which was secretly recorded by the monkey tribe," the fairy said in a low voice.
"So what? When we immortals travel to the demon realm, are we supposed to not fight back when we're hit or talk back when we're insulted?" Wang Yao was still indignant.
"That's how I argued with the higher-ups, but they wouldn't listen. Let's go back; I can't continue doing this." The fairy's voice was full of frustration.
"Damn it! Why did you have to leave now of all times? The entire Dongchuan Continent is about to be engulfed in war, and you started it all. Now you want to leave? How am I supposed to explain this to the Zhanghuang Clan, the Yi Clan, and the Shu Clan?" Wang Yao roared.
"I don't want this either, but... since the higher-ups want us to go back, as immortals within the system, we have no choice but to obey orders. What else can we do? Wait for the Heavenly Court to send patrolling celestial generals to arrest us? That would be even worse." The fairy maiden weakly defended herself.
"Well... hey? Right, I have a celestial skin here. The Liang tribe said it was a gift from the Hu tribe. How about I give it to you and you talk to the higher-ups about it? Damn it, the Hu tribe dares to kill celestials and skin them alive, how can their words be trusted?"
Wang Yao suddenly remembered the immortal skin he had in his hand, which was originally the evidence he had prepared to prove to the Heavenly Court that the monkey clan had murdered members of the Heavenly Court's office in the demon realm.
"What immortal skin?" The fairy was a little surprised, so Wang Yao explained the matter in detail, but he was interrupted by the fairy before he could finish speaking.
"It's no use. Do you know when the monkeys killed that immortal? What was that immortal's identity? If he was just a wandering immortal, the Heavenly Court wouldn't care, and besides, there's no real evidence..."
"I'm really fed up with you. You can stop our operation at any time without any real evidence, but we need real evidence to continue? What kind of logic is that...?" Wang Yao was furious. He was about to argue with the fairy when there was a knock on the door.
"Wait a minute, a fairy is knocking on the door. I'll talk to you later." Wang Yao said as he went to open the door.
