The topic was easily opened up with just a few words.
Next, the air above the Moonlit Hall was filled with the sounds of several elders discussing the wedding.
As the main figures at the wedding, the two were quite relaxed and at ease.
Unable to make decisions or get a word in edgewise, Shu Yi wanted to get up and leave, but glancing at Zhang Youye's still not-so-pleasant expression, she affectionately took his arm.
"What's wrong? Are you still angry?"
Gently pulling his arm away from her grasp, Zhang Youye stared blankly at a point of nothingness in front of him.
Seeing his dismissive attitude and his silence in response to her question, Shu Yi looked helpless.
"Chuanran was probably just not feeling well, which is why he accidentally dropped the chopsticks. He didn't have any objections to our wedding, so don't worry about it."
It would be better if Shu Chuanran's name wasn't mentioned; just hearing that name made Zhang Youye want to grind his teeth to dust.
The restlessness blatantly exposed in the depths of his brooding eyes was something only he knew—
What he cared about was not that Shu Chuanran had thrown his chopsticks at the banquet.
Rather, what exactly is this scheming bastard plotting?
In the last second before Shu Chuanran left the dining room, Zhang Youye actually saw the exact same look in his eyes as in Shu Chuanran's indifferent and cold expression.
He could actually see the madness in another man's eyes that made him want to swallow Shu Yisheng whole.
And this man has now become Shu Yi's nominal younger brother.
Unfortunately, without mind-reading abilities, Zhang Youye had absolutely no idea what Shu Chuanran was up to.
Based on his male intuition, he sensed danger and knew he had to prevent it from happening in advance.
"Are you tired?" he asked her casually.
The familiar words of concern reached Shu Yi's ears, putting her at ease. Leaning on his shoulder, she shook her head.
"I'm not tired. You've been busy at the research institute all day. Are you tired? I reckon they'll be discussing this for a long time. Anyway, we won't be able to get a word in edgewise. How about I go back with you to rest?"
“No need.” Zhang Youye pointed to the lively scene outside. “You can stay here with Grandpa and the others. They might ask for your opinions on the wedding later. I’m going back to the East Courtyard to take a shower and clear my head before I come back to find you.”
Shu Yi leaned in and kissed the corner of his lips, then smiled gently and said, "Okay, then go ahead."
Suddenly attacked by a dry kiss, his handsome face, which had been clouded with worry, instantly brightened up.
Taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention, he grabbed her thin chin with his backhand and pulled her in front of him, leaning closer.
Until the dry kiss melted into a wet kiss between their teeth, he reluctantly left her lips, their noses almost touching.
"I'll take good care of you tonight. I'm going now. Please tell Grandpa for me."
"Okay." Shu Yi raised her hand and pinched his chin, grinning mischievously, "Wash it clean."
...
Leave the Moonlit Hall.
Walking through the deep, dark night sky, Zhang Youye looked up and gazed at the boundless night sky.
It was pitch black, not a single star could be seen.
Winter has arrived, and where can one still see a sky full of stars?
Standing at the exit, Zhang Youye casually lit a cigarette, put it in his mouth, cupped the flame in his palm, brought it to his lips, stared at the crimson sparks in his field of vision for a few seconds, then put away the lighter and turned to walk down another path.
Shu Chuanran, who was deeply immersed in darkness, was suddenly disturbed by the sound of a violent door being kicked open.
In the dark room, with half his body sunk into the sofa, Shu Chuanran squinted at the light that streamed in through the crack as the door was kicked open.
I came against the light and stood still at the gate.
It was Zhang Youye, whom he had been eagerly anticipating.
Withdrawing his indifferent gaze, Shu Chuanran lowered his head, his eyelashes drooping, and he slightly tugged at the corners of his mouth.
"You're here? The wedding date with your second sister has already been decided? Are you here to let us know? Or to show off?"
Stepping inside, I kicked the precariously fastened door shut.
Sitting opposite Shu Chuanran, Zhang Youye noticed the ashtray on the coffee table overflowing with cigarette butts. He was taken aback for a moment, then flicked the ash off his hand.
"Shu Chuanran, what are you up to now?"
"Brother You, can't you tell what I'm planning?" Shu Chuanran asked calmly.
Offended by his emotionless tone, Zhang Youye retorted with a stern face, enunciating each word clearly: "I warned you long ago not to make a move on Shuyi. But now, you've really angered me."
"What? Are you going to kill me?" Shu Chuanran remained calm as he stubbed out his cigarette.
Zhang Youye casually put the cigarette back into his mouth, stared at him for a long time with his calm eyes, and the murderous intent that was about to burst forth turned into something else.
"Shu Chuanran, do you think that by rescuing Shu Yi, you can gain the upper hand?"
Stunned by his incisive observation, Shu Chuanran's indifferent expression finally showed some emotion.
He lit a new cigarette, waiting for the bitter taste to spread from his mouth to the corners of his eyes, and nodded in acknowledgment.
"Yes, just as you thought."
“I thought that by saving her, I could use my status as her savior to blackmail her into being with me. Unfortunately, I love her, and I simply can’t bring myself to blackmail her.”
Clang—
The coffee table in front of him was smashed to pieces by Zhang Youye's kick.
Staring at the debris scattered on the ground, Shu Chuanran smiled silently. The next second, his neck was grabbed tightly.
When Zhang Youye became enraged, his strength seemed to be enough to snap his fragile neck in an instant.
With his neck being choked and pressed tightly against the back of the sofa, unable to breathe, Shu Chuanran was forced to tilt his head back.
Judging from his apparent lack of will to live, Zhang Youye, his back slightly bent, his red-glowing eyes particularly clear in the darkness, asked: "You really want to die, don't you?"
A calm, detached voice entered his ears. With difficulty, he opened his eyes to meet Zhang Youye's gaze. Shu Chuanran answered him in a low voice, his voice carrying a defiant air of certain victory.
