Chapter 43 Will they dislike Shu Yi's background?

Having received the signal, Zhang Youye, who had remained silent and watching the show, curled his lips in a teasing remark.

"Uncle An, there's no need for such a rush. What's wrong? Has something happened to my uncle's company again? I'll call my dad and ask him to keep an eye on things."

Apart from Shu Yi and the almost transparently quiet Chen Ruoyang, everyone present was a cunning old fox.

I never expected to get thwarted by Zhang Youye. It seems I won't get a definite answer today.

Interrupting him, Shudean kicked him in the shin, expressing his disappointment.

"You're always loafing around like that. If you weren't Brother Xu's favorite student, I'd really like to cut your hair off. Dye it back right now, you look like a scoundrel."

“Uncle An, don’t be so old-fashioned like Grandpa. This hair color is very trendy, okay? Besides my face, who else can pull off this hair color?” Zhang Youye replied smugly.

She was afraid that her younger brother would bring up something that was hard to talk about again.

Shu Qiyi pushed the two men away while frantically giving them meaningful glances.

"Go away, stop making fun of your uncle in public. You two go do what you're supposed to do, don't stay here."

Pushed to the door by her grandfather, Shu Yi's gaze briefly met Chen Ruoyang's inside the house for a few seconds before she followed Zhang Youye and turned to leave.

Shu Qiyi pressed the still angry Shu De'an down into a chair and then took the empty seat next to Chen Ruoyang, explaining with a smile.

"Yangyang, you've really made a fool of yourself today."

"Your great-uncle didn't even give me a heads-up before bringing you here. You can tell, can't you? My granddaughter's heart is already set on that Zhang family boy."

"I can tell," Chen Ruoyang nodded with a smile.

Although the Chen family is not among the top five families in Jingnan, they have made quite a name for themselves.

Chen Ruoyang studied abroad in her early years.

After returning to China, he was assigned by his family to work under Shu De'an. Shu Qiyi guessed that his younger brother brought him here because he was steady and reliable and his family had a clean background.

The mistake was in not contacting them beforehand, which led to the misunderstanding. Nodding, Shu Qiyi apologized with a smile.

"It's good that you could tell. I'm really sorry for what happened today. Your uncle meant well but messed things up. I'll personally come to apologize to your family another day."

With a composed wave of his hand, Chen Ruoyang stood up and took his leave.

"Grandpa, don't say that. I'm very happy to have met Yiyi today. Since the younger generation has left, I won't bother you any longer."

Watching Chen Ruoyang's figure disappear from sight, Shu Qiyi got up, walked to the main seat, picked up a teacup, took a few sips of tea, and glanced at Shu De'an without any warmth.

"Tell me, what kind of thing did you do?"

"Brother, you can't blame me for this. I was just worried about the Shu family." Shu De'an snorted lightly with a dark face.

"Couldn't you have informed me first next time? I already discussed it with the Zhang family, you know? I was planning to tell you about this when you came back from your business trip, but you had to bring someone from the Chen family to play matchmaker."

"The eldest son of the Zhang family really agrees to this?" Shu De'an asked incredulously. "I was just worried that with their large and powerful family, they would look down on Yi Yi's background."

"Don't they look down on Yiyi because she was born in Yishi? Aren't they afraid of being laughed at if word gets out?"

Snap—

Shu Qiyi slammed his hand heavily on the table beside him.

"Who dares to look down on our Yiyi?" Influenced by Shu De'an's words, Shu Qiyi muttered angrily, "What's wrong with our Yiyi being unworthy of the Zhang family boy?"

“You know what that brat is like. If he didn’t like her, who would dare to push their daughter into his house? Do you think your daughter is living too comfortably? Besides, can’t you see the way he looks at our Yiyi? Look at how much he likes her, he practically wants to devour her.”

"So, according to you, we've brought about a happy marriage?" Shu De'an asked rhetorically.

A perfect match?

Shu Qiyi was speechless for a moment.

Decades have passed quietly, and no one has had a single story of loving affection between them.

The idea that arranged marriages between families don't involve feelings is like a blind date where people just agree to live together.

A superficial harmony devoid of genuine affection is an unspoken secret within these family circles.

Perhaps it really is the spirit of our ancestors manifesting in heaven.

Only then can the Zhang family's son and granddaughter fall in love.
