Shu Yi was so engrossed in looking through the photos of her successful check-in in her album that she didn't look up and meet her gaze.
“Your thoughts are written all over your face, so they’re easy to guess. But you’re also a member of the Shu family, so you should understand that even your eldest uncle wouldn’t dare disobey your grandfather’s wishes.”
"Sister Yi, but I really like Brother Youye. I've liked him since I was little."
After speaking, he observed Shu Yi's calm expression.
Seeing that persuasion was hopeless, Shu Qianxin frowned and pondered for a moment before trying to appeal to people's emotions.
"Second sister, you know our family, where would we give you the chance to go out and find love? It's not easy to meet someone you like."
"Second sister, I really don't want to compete with you. Your sudden return by Grandpa has already disrupted many of the family's plans. Besides, I think since you don't like Brother Youye, why don't you give him to me? I would really be grateful to you."
Plan? Let? Thanks?
After hearing Shu Qianxin's words, Shu Yi's eyes narrowed, and she finally deigned to look up at the woman opposite her.
Looking at her delicate and frail appearance, one can't tell whether she's too scheming or too naive.
If someone with ulterior motives were to overhear this "heartfelt" speech, they might mistakenly believe that the two were fighting over a man.
What does "letting go" mean?
Putting aside the matter of the arranged marriage, if Shu Qianxin really likes Zhang Youye, she can simply try to win him over herself. What's the point of talking to her about this?
She is not Zhang Youye's heart or body.
It can decide for him who he loves.
Furthermore, even if an arranged marriage is unavoidable, if one truly dislikes it, one can at least muster the courage to resist.
Back then, my father refused an arranged marriage for my mother and left the Shu family without hesitation, never contacting them again. This courage was something many in the industry envied.
The delicate young lady in front of her, who could easily obtain anything and was naive to the ways of the world, had never even tried, yet she spoke so arrogantly to her.
Shu Yi couldn't help but ask, "What position are you taking when you tell me all this?"
"What do you mean?" Shu Qianxin was completely confused.
"Is he/she my opposite? If so, I suggest you take back what you just said."
As she spoke, Shu Yi smiled faintly, her face devoid of warmth, yet her entire being was enveloped and shrouded in an indescribable aura.
"First of all, we are not objects, and neither is Zhang Youye. I don't understand what you mean by 'giving up.' Do you think that human emotions can be given away so easily?"
"Secondly, I can understand the need for family alliances through marriage, but I really want to ask, after living abroad for so long, is it really impossible for you to meet someone you like? Even if you really can't, why don't you try to make Zhang Youye like you, instead of using an arranged marriage to forcibly tie you together?"
"Because these traditions started a long time ago, Second Sister, I..."
Waving her hand to interrupt Shu Qianxin's subconscious rebuttal, Shu Yi remained calm and continued to refute her point of view.
"According to you, because it has existed for a long time, you must abide by it. If that's the case, why do you want me to give Zhang Youye to you? You also know very well that as your older sister, I definitely need to cooperate with the family's arranged marriage, don't you?"
"That's how it is, that's why I want to beg you, please..." Shu Qianxin murmured.
"Are you asking me to give you Zhang Youye?"
Picking up where she left off, Shu Yi gave a cold laugh, and a hint of impatience finally flashed across her usually calm eyes.
"Shu Qianxin, why deceive yourself? Instead of saying you're giving in, you might as well just say that with the Zhang family protecting you, your future wealth and honor are guaranteed."
A feeling of guilt welled up in Shu Qianxin's heart, as if a secret she had kept hidden for many years had been discovered, and she became agitated.
"How could you say that! Don't talk nonsense, I've never thought that way!"
"Really? If you really like Zhang Youye, why have you never made your feelings clear to him? You've been back in the country for so long, haven't you found an opportunity yet?" Shu Yi asked indifferently.
“I, because, because, I,” Shu Qianxin stammered, unable to get a coherent answer.
Her gaze lingered on her pale face, and thinking of the current state of the Shu family, Shu Yi began to set a trap.
"Just like you said, it's not easy to meet someone you like. Since you like Zhang Youye so much, why don't you try telling him?"
After a few seconds of pause, Shu Yi continued.
"Perhaps you're worried that he might do something wrong again, like he did back then, in order to refuse the arranged marriage, and you're afraid that all your efforts will be in vain, so you've been waiting for the right opportunity for the marriage. But what you didn't expect was that I would be found by Grandpa."
“Yes, that’s right.” Shu Qianxin nodded firmly. “I’m just worried that Brother Youye will do something wrong again, so I don’t dare to tell him my feelings. I just want to wait for the right time for the marriage.”
I never expected that this fish would take the bait so easily without me even using a fraction of my strength.
A soft chuckle escaped her throat as Shu Yi slowly picked up her coffee cup, abruptly changing the subject.
"I don't know if you like Zhang Youye or not, but I suddenly understand why the Qin family has been unwilling to let Grandpa find me. I suppose the Qin family is worried that I will affect their plans over the years, right? Am I right?"
"No! No! You..."
Before they could finish speaking, Shu Chuanran, who had suddenly appeared beside them and was panting heavily, interrupted them.
"Second sister, I'm sorry."
"My sister is confused, please forgive her. Please pretend that today's incident never happened. I'm sorry."
