Chapter 76 Scaring Him

With difficulty, he removed his hand from her slender waist, then roughly rubbed the woman's head in his arms. Zhang Youye leaned close to her ear and said, "Don't be silly, my brother is timid and can't be scared."

"Okay." Sticking out her tongue, Shu Yi nodded obediently, "I won't scare him anymore."

"Brother, you're back?" Perhaps hearing the two of them, Zhang Huaiyi's voice came from beside his ear.

Worried that Shu Yi might still be up to no good, Zhang Youye blocked her behind him and went to the door to tell her, "Well, it's raining heavily outside, don't come out, get some rest."

"Okay, you should get some rest too."

After he finished speaking, the light went out in Zhang Huaiyi's room.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a fair-skinned woman grinning mischievously. Zhang Youye grabbed the arm of the person behind him and quickly walked towards his room.

As the door was gently closed, Shu Yi smoothed the stray hairs that were damp from the rain behind her ear.

"My hair is all wet, please get me a towel to dry it."

He bent down to put down the bamboo umbrella, went into the bathroom, grabbed a towel, and handed it to her. The rough-looking Zhang Youye didn't care about such things and casually ran his fingers through his stray hairs.

"Hurry up and dry yourself off. Luckily, not many parts are wet, otherwise I would have had to let you take a shower first."

Seeing that he wasn't going to use a towel to dry the raindrops off his body, Shu Yi pulled his arm and sat him on the sofa. Without saying a word, she directly covered his head with the towel.

"Hold the umbrella over me the whole time, you're all soaked." Shu Yi muttered as she tightened her grip. "I'll dry your hair for you, then you can change your clothes, be careful not to catch a cold."

With his head covered by a towel, and not wanting to stop his wife's loving wiping, Zhang Youye's voice could only be muffled under the towel.

"No need, I'm in great physical condition. Tell me a ghost story instead."

Such a great opportunity, yet ghost stories held such a strong attraction for Zhang Youye compared to himself.

Since you like it so much...

Why not scare him a little?

A mischievous smile slowly crept onto her pink lips. Without stopping what she was doing, Shu Yi opened her mouth and said, "It was raining just as hard that day. I had just finished get off work at the bar, and it must have been close to midnight."

That day, it had been raining heavily for a day and a night.

Even when it was time for Shuyi to leave work, she still showed no sign of stopping.

If this continues...

It is estimated that the entire city of Jiaxing will be flooded.

After observing the rain from the back door of the bar, Shu Yi opened her umbrella, said goodbye to the staff beside her, and stepped into the rain.

Perhaps because of the rain, the night was darker than ever before.

On her way back, all Shu Yi could see was an impenetrable darkness and her fingers covered in thick fog.

I don't know whether to say I'm unlucky or that the relevant departments are being so stingy that it's outrageous.

Even the streetlights around us went out as if by magic.

The streetlights, which should have stood in neat rows, were all out of order.

After silently grumbling to herself about how taxpayers' money had been spent on who-knows-where, Shu Yi casually swayed her guitar on her shoulder and quickened her pace toward her residential area.

In fact, other girls would be more or less afraid to walk alone in this kind of environment.

Shuyi wasn't scared; she just complained that she wasn't dressed warmly enough. The cold wind and rain made her shiver slightly.

Fortunately, her residence was not far from the bar; after a ten-minute walk, she could already see the familiar apartment buildings in the distance.

Strangely enough, the apartment buildings in the neighborhood, which are usually brightly lit, are now completely dark.

"What's going on? Is there a power outage in the neighborhood?"

Just as she finished speaking to herself, the streetlights across the street, parallel to Shuyi's, suddenly flickered twice for no apparent reason.

It flashed twice, and then inexplicably went black again.

...

"Did you see something?" Zhang Youye interrupted her, peeking his eyes out from under the towel.

"Guess," Shu Yi said calmly, raising a slight smile.

"Did you see something in those two flashes?" Zhang Youye pressed.

Without a response, Shu Yi ended the pause and continued to delve into the fragments of her memories.

...

After noticing the flashing streetlights, Shu Yi didn't take it seriously, assuming it was caused by aging wiring.

She then looked away and continued walking forward.

Unexpectedly, before they had taken more than a few steps, all the streetlights across the street suddenly started flashing in unison.

Even more strangely, the streetlights leaning against Shuyi's side remained off.

A torrential downpour, a pitch-black night, the streets deserted, with only a streetlamp flickering eerily.

The streetlights on the other side did not respond at all.

This scene finally made Shu Yi feel scared.

The bizarre scene before her eyes forced her to quicken her pace again. As she jogged, she took out her phone to call the security guard at the entrance of the residential area.

But then I suddenly noticed the calendar on my phone—

It happens to be the Ghost Festival (July 15th of the lunar calendar).

On the fifteenth of the seventh lunar month, the gates of hell open.

Startled by the six large words that flashed into her mind, Shu Yi broke out in a cold sweat. She struggled to steady her unsteady steps and barely managed to keep her eyes from looking at the other side. She nervously made a phone call to the uncle.

Unfortunately, there was no one in the security room; only the uncle's cell phone sat forlornly on the table.

Seeing that she couldn't get through to the security guard on the phone, Shuyi had no choice but to quicken her pace again.

I don't know if I really encountered a ghost wall, but the journey that usually only takes ten minutes or so took twenty minutes this time and I still hadn't arrived.

Seeing the familiar apartment building not far ahead, Shu Yi felt as if she were standing still, unable to get closer.
