Chapter 55 Ye Zhishen escapes death
Ye Zhishen stood at the edge of the pit, not knowing what to feel.
When Yun Bailian shouted "There's a deer", he had already seen clearly that it was just a bush that was swaying a few times in the wind.
He had also warned them at the time, but the others had probably not caught anything for most of the day, and when they heard about the big prey, they were too excited to pay any attention to his words and rushed forward in a swarm following the prince.
As a result, he was left alone outside the pit.
Ye Zhishen sighed and was about to ask how everyone was doing when he heard screams.
Yun Bailian's exclamation also rang out:
"I'm so hurt! Help me!"
Everyone in the pit was in a commotion and finally dragged Xiao Zirui out from under a fallen horse. They were shocked when they saw his injuries.
Xiao Zirui's leg was broken.
"Wow, my prince is seriously injured, what should I do..." Yun Bailian cried in fear.
"Shut up!" Xiao Zirui was sweating profusely from the pain, and he felt even more uncomfortable when he heard the crying.
"Hurry up and lift His Royal Highness the Crown Prince up. We need to find a doctor to set his leg immediately, otherwise there will be sequelae!" someone suggested urgently.
"But you see, this pit is so deep and steep. We can barely make it up by ourselves, but I'm afraid we can't make it up with the prince!"
At this moment, Ye Zhishen threw down the vine he had just cut:
"Quick, a few of you come up first, and someone else will carry the prince on their backs and tie him up with a rope. Together we can pull him up."
Everyone quickly did as they were told, and after a lot of trouble, everyone finally got out of the pit.
The few remaining intact horses also had to be dragged up, but unfortunately most of them had broken their legs.
Fortunately, everyone else only had minor scratches, and only the prince broke his leg.
But no one dared to say this "fortunately".
After most people got out of the pit, they surrounded the prince. Only Ye Zhishen and two or three colleagues were left. They worked together to drag the remaining intact horses up.
Finally, after finishing the work, Ye Zhishen handed the horse to a few other people to take away, sat down by the pit and wiped the sweat off his face.
Suddenly someone kicked him hard from behind, and he fell into the pit completely defenseless, with a sharp broken log right below him.
With a "puff" sound, the wooden stake pierced into Ye Zhishen's heart. He was in so much pain that he couldn't make a sound!
He gritted his teeth and looked back.
At the edge of the pit, a trace of fear appeared on Chen Rong's gloomy face, and then turned into viciousness.
He originally just wanted to take revenge on Ye Zhishen out of resentment, but he didn't expect that he would be so unlucky and fall directly on the sharp wooden stakes. It seemed that he would not survive!
Chen Rong glanced around and found that everyone was surrounding the prince and no one was paying attention to this side. It was a godsend opportunity.
He gave a cold smile, turned around and left as if nothing had happened.
Ye Zhishen saw the change in Chen Rong's expression clearly. He was so angry that his eyes went dark. He struggled to get up and was stunned again.
He looked down at himself and found that his clothes on his chest were torn, but he was unharmed, as if everything that had just happened was just an illusion!
He looked at the wooden stake on the ground in shock, only to see that its tip had pierced through a piece of talisman paper.
It was the talisman given by Yun Qingqing that saved his life!
She said that he was going to die suddenly, and that he must never leave the talisman, and it came true.
Ye Zhishen felt like he had escaped death. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and his face darkened.
He picked up the talisman paper, took a deep breath and jumped out from the bottom of the pit. He saw Chen Rong who was surrounding Xiao Zirui and asking him about his well-being. He rushed over and kicked him to the ground!
"Chen, you are a piece of shit! You actually plotted against me and wanted to kill me!"
Everyone quickly grabbed him and asked him what was wrong while trying to persuade him.
Chen Rong was shocked at first, staring at his chest for a few seconds, and when he found that there was no injury at all, he immediately looked innocent.
He covered his abdomen and said angrily:
"Brother Ye, what are you doing? How have I ever wronged you? Why did you suddenly attack me?"
"You're still pretending!" Ye Zhishen gritted his teeth. "You pushed me into the pit when I was unprepared, and I almost died watching you with your own eyes. And you still want to pretend you don't know?"
Everyone was surprised when they heard his words. Seeing him so angry, they looked at Chen Rong with a more inquiring look.
Chen Rong said loudly:
"It's easy to find a pretext to accuse someone! I think you're just holding a grudge against me because of what happened yesterday! You said I pushed you into the pit, but did anyone see? Do you have any evidence? You said I nearly killed you, but you're standing here perfectly still, aren't you?"
Ye Zhishen didn't expect him to be so shameless. He took out the talisman and gritted his teeth:
"If Master Yun hadn't given me this life-saving talisman, I would have been killed by you by now! The hole in the talisman is the evidence!"
"Master Yun? Ha, are you talking about the Regent Princess?" Chen Rong narrowed his eyes and suddenly sneered.
He stood up, dusted himself off, and said loudly:
"No wonder! Our team clearly has the Crown Princess, a divine phoenix, with us, yet we've had such a rough ride. I've long felt something was amiss! So it turns out you, Ye, have ulterior motives, deliberately carrying the Regent Princess's talisman with you! From what I've seen along the way, it's clearly this talisman that's causing all this trouble!"
"Just say that again if you dare!" Ye Zhishen was furious. He suddenly broke free from the person holding him, rushed forward and knocked Chen Rong to the ground with a punch.
Chen Rong covered his face and spat out a mouthful of blood, but his smile became even more arrogant:
"Am I wrong? Otherwise, why did everyone fall into that pit, and only you were fine? It turns out that you and the Regent teamed up to ruin our team's fortune!"
Ye Zhishen raised his fist again, Chen Rong immediately dodged backwards, and the people around him grabbed Ye Zhishen.
"Stop!" Xiao Zirui's stern shout suddenly rang out, and everyone stopped moving.
"Ye Zhishen, I have treated you well, why do you want to harm me like this!" Xiao Zirui looked at him with a bit of coldness in his eyes.
"Your Highness! He was the one who harmed me first. This talisman is just used to save my life! How could you believe his lies?" Ye Zhishen looked at his old friend in disbelief.
"What did Master Chen say wrong?" Yun Bailian suddenly spoke up. "I find it strange too. I've tried so hard to lead everyone in finding prey, why is it still this result? Not only that, but the Crown Prince is also so badly injured..."
She sounded aggrieved and on the verge of tears, but she felt greatly relieved in her heart.
As expected, how could it be the fault of a Phoenix like me that I couldn’t catch any prey? It must be because someone was playing tricks on me!
Xiao Zirui's face had turned completely cold.
"I just want to ask you one question: was the talisman on your hand given to you by Yun Qingqing?"
"...So what!" Ye Zhishen's temper flared up. "If this talisman hadn't been effective, I would have been killed by Chen by now! This talisman is not what he said it is..."
Bang!
Xiao Zirui suddenly raised the whip and whipped Ye Zhishen in the face.
Ye Zhishen looked at his old friend in disbelief, too shocked to speak, unable to even blink at the burning bloodstains on his face.
The scene suddenly became dead silent.
Xiao Zirui secretly tightened his whip, feeling that he had indeed hit too hard.
Ye Zhishen is, after all, the eldest son of the Marquis of Loyalty and Bravery. Falling out with him would be a great loss to himself.
He closed his eyes and said tiredly:
"Brother Ye, you may not have meant it, but Yun Qingqing is a treacherous and cunning woman. She might have had some ulterior motive in giving you this talisman. I believe Brother Chen is reminding you of this for your own good. You shouldn't bear a grudge against him just because someone instigated you to do so."
"We are brothers, so I won't bother with what happened today. Just apologize to Brother Chen and we'll let this matter go."
