Chapter Ninety-Five: Forgot How to Live a Normal Life

Ning Zhiyao hadn't forgotten the quiet 'owner' of this villa on the second floor, although she didn't know if the dessert would be spilled again like before after it was served.

After placing the little girl's portion of crème brûlée in front of her, Ning Zhiyao carried the other portion upstairs. She deliberately moved lightly as she went upstairs, as if her footsteps would awaken the sleeping nightmare upstairs.

not good!

Seeing Ning Zhiyao come up from the corner, Ling Shen quickly turned around and went upstairs, entering the room before Ning Zhiyao did.

The little girl watched Ning Zhiyao go upstairs, walk down the dimly lit and gloomy corridor, and finally disappear around the corner. The little girl could only hear two soft knocks on the door.

Before the person inside could reply, the little girl heard the door open. It must have been Ning Zhiyao who opened the door and brought in the crème brûlée.

Ning Zhiyao went inside. The room was still dimly lit. She looked around and saw a small bulge under the blanket. Ling Shen must be hiding inside.

Ning Zhiyao gently placed the crème brûlée on the bedside table and whispered, "Xiao Shen, I put the dessert on the bedside table. Remember to eat it."

After Ning Zhiyao finished speaking, she left the room. But as she stepped out, she stopped and couldn't help but say, "It's not good to just lie there all the time. The weather is nice today. If you want to go for a walk, you can."

The person under the covers did not answer.

Ning Zhiyao had already guessed this would be the reply, so she didn't insist and silently closed the door and left.

Normally, Ling Shen would have gotten angry and knocked things over by this time.

But this time, even after Ning Zhiyao had gone down the stairs, she still didn't hear the sound of things being rummaged through.

Ning thought to herself: Maybe she's asleep.

After Ning Zhiyao came down, the little girl asked, "Sister, who are those people up there?"

She was still young, and her questions were innocent and childish. Ning Zhiyao gently tapped her nose and said, "I can only tell you that the person living upstairs is a very quiet and well-behaved person."

The little girl pursed her lips, her gaze involuntarily drifting upwards. That's how children's curiosity is; the more you don't want me to know, the more I want to know.

The little girl was trying to figure out a way to get closer to the room on the third floor, but now that she knew Ning Zhiyao, she couldn't use the same "ignorance is no excuse" approach as before.

The little girl left the house after a short while. Once she was gone, it was time to start making dinner. Ning Zhiyao prepared the dinner and took it upstairs.

She knocked on the door as usual, but there was no response from inside, so she took the food and went in.

There was a small dining table in Ling Shen's room. At night, Ling Shen's room became even darker, as he didn't like bright lights, so the room was equipped with dim lamps.

After Ning Zhiyao went inside, she turned on the small lamp that provided the weakest light.

The room remained quiet, with a small mound on the bed, indicating that Ling Shen was still lying there.

Ning Zhiyao put the things on the table and was about to leave when she remembered that she had given him crème brûlée that afternoon, so she thought she would take the plate with her.

Ning Zhiyao walked to his bedside, and when she saw the crème brûlée clearly, she was slightly taken aback.

Is this... time to eat?

Ning Zhiyao thought she was seeing things, but when she looked closer, the plate that had contained crème brûlée was indeed empty.

Ning was somewhat surprised.

All the things she had prepared and sent up were thrown away by Ling Shen.

She still didn't quite believe it, so she went to look at the trash can. She thought that Ling Shen had changed his strategy and was no longer throwing things away randomly, but instead throwing them in the trash can.

However, the trash can in the room was clean, and Ning Zhiyao looked around but couldn't find the discarded crème brûlée.

So, Ling Shen really ate the crème brûlée?!

Ning Zhiyao was asked to take care of Ling Shen from the moment he moved in. Although the two had no contact and had never spoken a word to each other, Ning Zhiyao had already come to regard this autistic little boy as her own younger brother.

Ning Zhiyao was pleasantly surprised to see him starting to improve.

Ning Zhiyao picked up the plate used to serve the crème brûlée and said softly, "The crème brûlée was good today. If you like it, I'll make it for you again tomorrow."

Ling Shen, who was under the covers, did not answer.

Ning Zhiyao didn't insist, as long as Ling Shen ate it.

As she walked out with her tray, she said, "The food today is also very good. You can have some too, or it's okay if you can't finish it."

After Ning Zhiyao finished speaking, she left the room.

She was going to call Ling Shen's grandfather to report the situation, as Ling Shen's condition had improved.

After Ning Zhiyao left, Ling Shen, who was hiding under the covers, slowly sat up.

He did eat the crème brûlée. He hadn't had much of an appetite before, but the sweet aroma coming from the kitchen at the corner of the stairs gave him one.

The food was brought in, and the once quiet and dimly lit room seemed to come alive. The aroma of the food awakened a rare warmth in the space.

Ling Shen sat on the bed staring at the food on the table for a long time before finally getting off the bed, walking to the table, sitting down, picking up his chopsticks, and trying to put a bite of food into his mouth.

He only ate two or three bites of the meal, and each bite was very small, but he did start to have a desire to eat.

He also began to look forward to the little girl's arrival.

For over a year, he had been living the same life in this old house. The same people had been taking care of him, but they all treated him with extreme care because they thought he was a patient.
