Because the little girl had become familiar with the people in the house, everyone felt at ease with her.
After everyone had finished distributing the cherries the little girl had given them, they all went about their tasks, leaving only the little girl and Ning Zhiyao.
Suddenly, Ning Zhiyao received a phone call, and her expression turned flustered.
Something happened at her home, and she had to rush back, but there was still more than half an hour before it was time to deliver medicine and food to Ling Shen.
Although there were many people in the house, everyone was doing their own thing. Others had brought things to Ling Shen, but he had kicked them out.
The little girl seemed to sense Ning Zhiyao's predicament and said, "How about I help you deliver it, big sister?"
"you?"
Ning Zhiyao was a little worried. She knew Ling Shen's condition and knew that if the little girl went in, she would be frightened by him.
The little girl nodded and said, "Yes, I went in last time, and he didn't yell at me."
"You've been inside?"
The little girl confessed somewhat shyly, "It was the first time I climbed upstairs, and he saw me."
Ning Zhiyao recalled the day she met the little girl, who had fallen from the building.
Oh, I see.
Ning Zhiyao hesitated for a moment. Although she was still afraid of something going wrong, the situation was urgent, and she had to go back to resolve the issues at home.
She took out the prepared medicine. There were still unbaked egg tarts in the microwave in the kitchen. Ning Zhiyao told the nanny what she needed to do and asked the nanny to remind the little girl.
Before leaving, Ning Zhiyao instructed the little girl again: "At 5:30, take the medicine and water up to the innermost room, knock gently twice on the door, then go in and say a few words to him. If he ignores you, then come out, okay?"
The little girl nodded, indicating that she understood.
Ning Zhiyao was still worried, but things outside seemed urgent, so she had no choice but to trust the little girl.
Ling Shen, who was hiding in the corner on the second floor, overheard the conversation, so after Ning Zhiyao left, he turned around and went back to his room.
He was waiting for the little girl to come up at 5:30.
Since moving in here, Ling Shen has stopped paying attention to time.
He had absolutely no sense of time. At first, he would pay attention to whether it was day or night, but later he asked the room to be fitted with blackout curtains.
Whether it's day or night, his room is as dark as night.
This was the first time he had checked the time in over a year.
Ling Shen sat in the room, his eyes fixed on the alarm clock on the bedside table. Time passed slowly, and after a grueling half hour, it finally reached 5:30.
Then he heard footsteps outside.
Ling Shen immediately tensed up. He climbed back onto the bed and huddled under the covers, waiting for her to come in.
After Ning Zhiyao left, the little girl sat in the living room on the first floor, her eyes fixed on the clock on the wall, waiting to deliver the medicine up at 5:30.
Before the appointed time, she stood at the top of the stairs with the medicine. When the time came, she went up the stairs and headed straight for the room on the third floor.
After the last time, the little girl was even more curious about the people in the room. Now that she could walk in openly, her steps became a little more cheerful. The clattering of her footsteps echoed in the empty, quiet house.
She arrived at the door of the room on the second floor and knocked twice gently, as Ning Zhiyao had instructed.
Hearing the knock on the door, Ling Shen straightened his back and suddenly became a little nervous.
The little girl didn't hear anything, so she opened the door and came in.
She placed the things on the small table, looked around, and then her gaze fell on the bed.
She said, "Aren't you tired of lying down all day?"
Ling Shen remained huddled under the covers, offering no reply.
He had a longing in his heart; he wanted to talk to this girl, but on the other hand, he didn't know how to interact with people.
Two conflicting thoughts clashed in Ling Shen's mind, and he could only keep them to himself.
Ning Zhiyao had said that if he didn't answer, the little girl could leave.
He remained silent for a long time, and sure enough, he heard the little girl say, "If you're not going to answer, then I'm leaving. I've already put the food on the table, remember to eat it."
As the little girl spoke, she began to walk outside.
Hiding under the covers, Ling Shen heard her footsteps as she walked out. It seemed she reached the door, opened it, walked out, and then closed it.
Is this... gone?
Ling Shen was somewhat disappointed.
He thought the little girl would come up and greet him like last time.
As a result, she treated him like everyone else, as a patient.
Ling Shen was feeling down and stuffy under the covers, so he simply threw them off and sat up.
Ling Shen had his back to the door, and he didn't look towards the door after he sat up.
He sat on the bed, staring blankly at the opposite wall, his mind a jumbled mess.
He was burning with rage, and he was starting to lose control.
He felt like he had been abandoned by the world.
But just then, a voice sounded behind him; it was the little girl's.
"So you weren't asleep."
Ling Shen turned around abruptly and saw the little girl leaning against the door.
She was wearing a white dress and tilted her head to smile at him.
Ling Shen's blood flowed backwards in an instant.
She hasn't?
She hasn't left yet!
Ling Shen's emotions shifted rapidly in an instant. His first thought was, "Why hasn't she left yet?" His second thought was, "She hasn't left. She hasn't abandoned him."
