Chapter Sixty-One: Mistaken Identity

Ling Shen suddenly looked at her very seriously, which puzzled Qian Sui.

She asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"

Ling Shen's gaze traveled from Qian Sui's chin all the way to her eyes, finally settling on the beauty mark at the corner of her eye.

Ling Shen's eyes flickered, as if looking through Qian Sui's face, recalling those unknown memories deep within his mind that had warmed him for over a decade.

Ling Shen wanted to speak, but his voice trembled slightly.

Qian Sui noticed that Ling Shen was acting strangely.

Ling Shen had always been casual and lazy in front of her, but now, Qian Sui could feel his nervousness.

What is this?

Chitose couldn't help but ask, "What exactly happened?"

Qian Sui's words caused Ling Shen's fluctuating emotions to freeze again.

He let out a soft breath, regaining his usual relaxed demeanor, and looked at Qian Sui with a smile in his eyes: "Qian Sui, when you were eight or nine years old, did anything happen to you?"

Ling Shen's statement was somewhat vague.

When Chitose was eight or nine years old, he must have encountered some things, that's for sure.

But she wasn't sure which aspect Ling Shen was referring to, so she asked in return, "What aspect?"

Ling Shen: "For example, you met a boy and went through some things with him?"

Ling Shen finally asked the question.

This was a secret that Ling Shen had kept deep in his heart, and he had never told anyone else.

Some of his enemies were always looking for his weaknesses, trying to exploit them to defeat him, but they searched for a long time without finding one.

Actually, he wasn't without weaknesses; he just hid them very well.

When he was ten years old, he was taken to an old house to recuperate. Because he witnessed the tragic death of his parents, he could not bear the pressure and became withdrawn and depressed.

He was locked in the old house, spending his days in darkness and loneliness. When he broke down, he was like a trapped beast, struggling painfully in the night.

All of this ended when a girl with a beauty mark under his left eye appeared in his life.

That girl was like a ray of light shining through the cracks in his life.

From then on, his world was no longer just darkness and loneliness.

He started to grow up slowly from that time onwards. It was that girl who gave him energy and motivation that allowed him to grow into the person he is today.

Over the years, Ling Shen has been searching for the girl with a beauty mark under her left eye from his memories.

That's why Ling Shen approached the fortune teller, Qian Sui, in the park that time.

Because the beauty mark under Chitose's left eye looks very much like the girl in his memory.

It is precisely for this reason that Ling Shen's attitude towards Qian Sui is different.

Ling Shen was convinced that Qian Sui was the girl from his memories.

But when Ling Shen asked the question, Qian Sui thought for a moment and shook her head, saying, "No."

This answer was indeed unexpected for Ling Shen, because he had already investigated Qian Sui's age and some of her experiences beforehand.

Even the appearance of the thousand-year-old girl is so similar to that of the girl in Ling Shen's memory that they can be compared.

Ling Shen was 99% certain that Qian Sui was that girl.

But now Chitose tells him: she is not this girl.

Qian Sui could tell that Ling Shen didn't believe her, so she explained, "I've always stayed on the mountain with my master. I only go down the mountain occasionally to buy things. Also, when I was eight or nine years old, I got sick and my master kept me on the mountain to recover. So I probably didn't go down the mountain for a whole year."

Without going down the mountain, it's impossible to experience those things.

Ling Shen had already confirmed that Qian Sui was the one, but now he received this answer, and his brows furrowed involuntarily.

He looked at Qian Sui, who was exactly as he remembered. How could he not be?

Although he was only twelve years old at that time, and the girl was probably only eight or nine years old, her features already showed the beginnings of what she would look like when she grew up. The current Chitose is clearly the grown-up version of the girl in his memory.

Qian Sui looked at Ling Shen, blinked her eyes, and asked very seriously, "Are you sure you haven't mistaken me for someone else?"

Ling Shen didn't speak.

Once he's made up his mind, he rarely changes it. He's convinced that Chitose is the girl from his memories, and that's hard to change, even now that Chitose has told him herself: I didn't experience these things.

Ling Shen shook his head and said, "I won't mistake you."

Qian Sui was puzzled and said, "But I really don't remember meeting anyone. I have almost no friends. I spend most of my time on the mountain. If I met a friend on the way down the mountain, I would definitely remember it."

Ling Shen also thought of this question; at eight or nine years old, he should remember.

Moreover, the things he experienced with that girl will probably stay with him for the rest of his life.

Even now, when he thinks back on it, he feels that it was the most terrible thing that happened to him after he witnessed his parents' tragic deaths.

But Qian Sui looks exactly the same now, showing no signs of being affected at all.

Ling Shen suddenly remembered that Qian Sui had mentioned that she had been sick when she was eight or nine years old.

Ling Shen suddenly realized, and the look of dejection in his eyes lit up again: "You just said that you had an illness when you were eight or nine years old. Could it be that this is the reason why you had brain damage and don't remember anything?"

Chitose: "......"

Although Ling Shen was earnestly seeking verification, Qian Sui felt as if he was cursing.

Chitose: "You're the one whose brain's been fried!"

Ling Shen had no other choice.

He had secretly investigated beforehand, and all the evidence pointed to the fact that Chitose was the girl in his memory.

But now Chitose herself says no, what is the reason for this?

Ling Shen stared at Qian Sui for a long while, his emotions growing stronger, but he simply couldn't solve the mystery.

Qian Sui had finished her fruit wine, leaving only an empty glass. Ling Shen kept staring at her, making Qian Sui feel a little uncomfortable. She picked up the glass, wanting to take another sip of fruit wine to calm her nerves, but found that there was no wine in the glass.

Ling Shen saw this and took the cup from Qian Sui's hand.

Ling Shen stood up, holding a cup in one hand and extending the other to Qian Sui, saying, "I'll take you to find some wine."

Ling Shen wore a black suit today, which made him appear even more reserved and abstinent. The young man had a handsome face and eyes like cold stars in the sky.

He reached out to her as if God were bestowing grace upon all beings.

Chitose was involuntarily drawn in.

She reached out and placed her hand in Ling Shen's palm.

Seeing Qian Sui obediently extend his hand, Ling Shen's brows relaxed considerably.

Ling Shen helped Qian Sui up, and the two of them walked into the room.

But neither of them noticed that besides the two of them, there was someone else hiding in a corner of the garden.
