Ling Shen was leaning against the window making a phone call. Behind that window was the villa's swimming pool area, where the lights shone on the water and reflected onto Ling Shen's face.
As the light flickered, Ling Shen's gaze became even more profound.
On the other end of the phone, his grandfather was speaking, blaming him for not coming home to see him lately.
Grandpa said, "You're still so young, just like your dad was back then, all you care about is work. At your age, can't you be a little playful like other kids, have a relationship, and squander the family fortune?"
My grandfather's tone was full of disappointment and frustration.
Other people's kids are all dating and squandering their family fortunes, why can't you?
In the eyes of outsiders, Ling Shen is a typical arrogant person. No matter how powerful or influential the other party is, or how much they use their seniority to suppress him, Ling Shen will not take them seriously.
He's the kind of person who, if someone blocks his way, will step over their dead body to get past them.
However, he was very polite to his maternal grandfather, just like when he met Qian Sui and went to see Old Master Mo. Ling Shen could have avoided being threatened by Old Master Mo, but because Old Master Mo and his maternal grandfather were old acquaintances, Ling Shen also respected Old Master Mo very much.
Grandpa had said these words so many times that his ears were practically calloused.
Grandpa's expectation for Ling Shen has always been that he grows up healthy. The first thing Ling Shen did after returning at the age of 18 was to take back the Ling family business from his old acquaintances. Grandpa supported this, after all, it belonged to Ling Shen.
However, after Ling Shen regained control of the Ling family business, he devoted all his attention to his work.
His grandfather sent him to school, and he completed four years of university courses in one year, while also achieving various amazing results. His grandfather began to feel that his grandson was acting strangely.
While other parents hope their children will become successful, Grandpa only hopes that Ling Shen can grow up healthy and not be too outstanding!
Ling Shen felt a headache coming on and said helplessly, "Grandpa, I'm the only breadwinner in our family right now. If I don't work, we won't be able to make ends meet."
The way Ling Shen said it made it sound like he and his grandfather were two impoverished, dependent orphans who relied on each other and could only make a living by carrying bricks on construction sites every day.
Grandpa snorted coldly: "What's the point of making so much money? It's time you thought about finding a girl to bring home."
My grandfather went out to play golf with some good friends a while ago. He saw that the other old men had brought their great-grandchildren, and he was very envious. When he came back, he started nagging Ling Shen to find him a girlfriend.
Grandpa continued, "I'm not asking you to give me a great-grandson right now, but at least find a girlfriend. You're busy with work every day, but work can't give you a child."
Previously, when Ling Shen heard this question, he would have joked and brushed it off. But for some reason, now that his grandfather brought it up, the image of Qian Sui popped into Ling Shen's mind.
Ling Shen was momentarily lost in thought, wondering what Qian Sui was doing. The almond shortbread that had just been brought in was the chef's signature dish; he wondered if she would even notice how delicious it was.
Because Ling Shen was momentarily stunned, he didn't have a chance to stop his grandfather, so his grandfather continued.
“I heard from Lao Mo last time that you brought a girl to see him. I’m not trying to criticize you, but you really went too far this time. You found a girlfriend and brought her to see Lao Mo first, but didn’t bring her back to see me.”
Hearing his grandfather mention Qian Sui, Ling Shen snapped out of his reverie and said, "It's not that I didn't want to introduce her to you." Ling Shen paused, then continued, "It's mainly because girls are shy, and my relationship with her isn't finalized yet. Once it is, I'll definitely bring her home to meet you."
Ling Shen had indeed considered taking Qian Sui home to meet his grandfather. His grandfather knew about the little girl he had met while he was recuperating. Ling Shen was thinking that once he confessed to Qian Sui and confirmed that she was the girl he had met before, he would take her home.
Then have Grandpa go and make some arrangements with the Qian family, and that will make perfect sense.
But what just happened was too sudden. All the evidence pointed to Chitose as the girl in his memory, but Chitose herself said she wasn't.
Ling Shen is still not in the mood to recover from this incident.
Hearing Ling Shen say this, Grandpa calmed down a bit and asked with concern, "Why haven't you decided yet? Does the girl not like you?"
Ling Shen: "......."
In his own grandfather's eyes, he was just that unpopular.
Ling Shen didn't speak, so his grandfather took it as a tacit agreement and began to earnestly persuade him.
Grandpa: "I told you long ago, your personality is too dull. No girl would like your type. Your personality is just like your father's back then. I don't know how my precious daughter fell for him."
Grandpa said indignantly.
But the grandfather was unaware of how popular his grandson was; his grandson was the dream of countless young girls.
Ling Shen listened to his grandfather's scolding with a mix of amusement and exasperation. In the end, his grandfather ordered him to come home for dinner this weekend. Ling Shen readily agreed and said a few nice words to appease his grandfather before hanging up the phone.
Ling Shen hung up the phone and turned to walk back to the room on the other side of the corridor to find Qian Sui, but just as he reached the corner, he bumped into Qian Hao, who had just come upstairs.
Both of them stopped in their tracks and stood facing each other.
Qian Hao originally came up to find Ling Shen and Qian Sui, but now that he has run into Ling Shen, it has saved him a lot of trouble.
Ling Shen is, after all, a student at the school, and Qian Hao, as a teacher, should be more polite to him.
Ling Shen smiled and said softly, "Teacher Hao is also attending the party."
Qian Hao looked Ling Shen up and down with his eyes and said, "It's really rare to see President Ling in a place like this. I remember that President Ling is known for disliking attending parties. It seems that he is here today because there is something at this party that President Ling has his eye on."
Qianhao's words were pointed, hinting at Qiansui's matter.
Ling Shen naturally understood what was going on, but he remained calm and said, "People always change. I also remember that Teacher Hao doesn't like these kinds of occasions, so why did he come today?"
Qian Hao: "I have a reason for attending the party. I have a little sister at home who has been staying elsewhere for a long time and hasn't been to many occasions like this, so I brought her here to have some fun. So, Mr. Ling, what brings you to the party?"
Qian Hao's words implied that Qian Sui was his sister, and also subtly mocked Ling Shen's long-standing covetousness of Qian Sui.
Ling Shen also heard the sarcasm in Qian Hao's tone, but he didn't care. He chuckled softly and looked directly into Qian Hao's eyes.
“I came to the party because I had something that interested me.” Ling Shen paused, then added, “Besides, Teacher Hao, you should understand that what I’m best at is turning other people’s things into my own.”
Upon hearing this, Qian Hao frowned deeply.
