Chapter 005: Auntie Visits

Chapter 005: Auntie Visits

Ten minutes later.

Liu Rong walked out from inside.

His face looked wrong.

Rong Mei saw it at a glance.

He jumped down from the seat, frowned and asked, "Mom, what's wrong?"

Liu Rong looked up at Rong Mei, then quickly lowered her head and sighed, "I didn't get it. The money hasn't been transferred yet."

He even muttered, "For so many years, the money has always been on time. I come to collect it on the 9th of every month during the big market day."

I have been thinking about it over and over again, but I still can't figure it out. My son always remits money to me on time every month, but this time he failed to do so.

I couldn't help but worry, "Mei girl, do you think something has happened?"

Rong Mei raised her eyebrows slightly, "No way, maybe something delayed him and he didn't make it. How about we come back and watch it next time?"

Liu Rong thought about it again, and finally nodded helplessly, comforting herself, "Okay, maybe he has received the letter and has already returned, so there is no need to remit the money."

After hearing this, Rong Mei's mouth twitched. She thought that maybe he was so angry after receiving the letter that he didn't want to send the money anymore, but she didn't say it out loud.

"How about we send a telegram?"

After spending some time together, Rong Mei had gained some understanding of Liu Rong's personality. She knew that even if she was treated well now, she would still be worried after returning, so she mentioned it.

Liu Rong's originally melancholy face suddenly brightened up, "Yes, this is a good idea, let's send him a telegram."

Telegrams are much faster than letters and can usually arrive the next day.

But these days telegrams were charged by the word, so people generally wouldn’t send a telegram unless it was an urgent matter.

This time it was Liu Rong who watched the bicycle outside while Rong Mei went into the post office.

I asked the counter staff about the price, and found out that an expedited telegram cost one dollar per word, and punctuation marks were half the price.

So Rong Mei gave out a fifty-cent note.

?

Yes, just a question mark.

I filled in the address on Zhou Nanxu's remittance slip, paid the money, and left the post office.

He smiled and said to Liu Rong, "Mom, let's go, we have sent them out."

Without getting the money, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law's plans were reduced by half.

After weighing twenty kilograms of cotton and buying some miscellaneous items and food, the two men took the cotton to the workshop for processing.

Twenty kilograms of cotton were made into three quilts, each weighing about six or seven kilograms.

I paid the deposit, received the receipt, and waited for the next big market to pick it up, and then paid the remaining money.

It was almost lunchtime when they got home. After unloading their things, Liu Rong started cooking.

Rong Mei was full after eating five dumplings.

In fact, her appetite is very small, but she is greedy and likes to eat a lot of things. She likes to try everything, but she can't eat anymore after just two bites.

After riding the bike back and forth for two hours and getting up early in the morning, Rong Mei went straight to the kang after lunch and started the good habit she developed every day since she came to this world - taking a nap.

"Grandma, I want to see my aunt."

The first thing Zhou Dabao does when he comes to visit every day is to see Rong Mei.

Although he was only three years old, he knew that his aunt was very pretty, especially beautiful, the most beautiful in the village.

"Shh, don't bother your auntie. She's asleep. I'll get you some peach cakes."

Liu Rong took Zhou Dabao's little hand and went to another room, where she brought him some snacks.

When they returned to the kang room, both the grandfather and the grandson moved very carefully, for fear of waking up the sleeping Rong Mei.

After just half an hour's nap, Rong Mei was awakened by shouting outside the yard.

I thought it was another aunt from the village coming to visit, which is a very common thing here.

Unexpectedly, the visitor turned out to be the original owner's great aunt who lived in the next village.

Liu Rong went out to welcome the person in. "It's my sister-in-law. Come on, come in."

Rong Mei also got up, folded the quilt, put it in the kang cabinet, and swept the kang with a feather duster.

Liu Rong just happened to bring He Cui into the house.

"Aunt, please sit on the kang. It's warm there." Rong Mei greeted her, reached out to take the things that He Cui brought, and put them away.

He Cui responded as she put on her slippers and got on the kang. She looked at Rong Mei's back and smacked her lips, "Hey, how come she looks so pretty again after just a short while? Our niece is really pretty."

This was the second time He Cui came to the Zhou family after Rong Mei packed up her things. The first time was when she brought Rong Mei here, and her uncle was also there.

She is just my cousin, she has a father and a mother, and they cannot decide on her marriage.

Rong Mei wanted to get married, and they only tried to stop her symbolically, wrote a letter to inform Rong Sheng and his wife, and then came to their house to get acquainted.

When the couple comes to their door, they will have an explanation as to where the person went.

Liu Rong praised generously, "That's right, my daughter-in-law is the most beautiful."

He brought the kang table onto the kang, made a pot of tea and poured it for He Cui.

Rong Mei walked into the house holding melon seeds and candies in one hand and holding Zhou Dabao's hand in the other.

Zhou Dabao has been following Rong Mei around since she woke up.

Rong Mei brought the plate of candy to the table on the kang, then carried Zhou Dabao onto the kang, and then she went up herself.

As soon as he sat down, Zhou Dabao snuggled into her arms.

He likes his aunt because she smells nice.

"Hello, grandma." Zhou Dabao called to He Cui in a baby voice.

He Cui reached out and gently pinched Zhou Dabao's chubby little face, her expression full of love, "Oh, you are so good, who taught you that you even know to call me grandma."

"My aunt taught me." Zhou Dabao answered in a crisp voice.

He was not shy at all, but he wasn't noisy at all either. He just nestled quietly in Rong Mei's arms.

He Cui smiled and asked teasingly, "Where are your parents?"

Zhou Dabao chewed a stick of glutinous rice in his hand and answered vaguely, "Dad went to the fields, Mom is at home."

Home?

He Cui thought to herself, she didn’t see this either.

Liu Rong quickly told her the details of the division of the family.

He Cui nodded after listening.

"That's good. We should split up the family as soon as possible. If we all live together, there will be more people and more mouths. Sometimes even our tongue and teeth would clash, let alone so many mouths.

But your family is not like ours, with so many people living together."

Liu Rong sighed, "Yeah, I originally thought there was nothing to divide. There are only two brothers, and the younger one is in the army... But now it seems that it's better to divide it. Everyone is happy and at ease."

Rong Mei just listened quietly to He Cui and Liu Rong chatting back and forth without interrupting, and occasionally interacted with Zhou Dabao in her arms.

He Cui didn't notice anything unusual because she didn't spend much time with the original owner.

Just as she was becoming drowsy and was about to fall asleep.

He Cui suddenly asked her, "Mei girl, your parents have replied to your letter. Did they say when they will come?"
