Chapter 4

Li Rui's fingers were slender and white, with distinct joints, like a finely carved work of art. His touch was gentle and warm, as if carrying an electric current that instantly spread throughout my body. I felt my heartbeat speed up a little, and my cheeks were slightly hot.

This damn ancient time, how can we touch each other's body at any time! I secretly cursed, pulled my hand back calmly, and smiled at him: "Then thank you, Lord."

Li Rui smiled back and walked to the guqin and sat down. His movements were graceful and skillful, and it was obvious that he played it often. The sound of the guqin was sometimes as gentle as a flowing spring, and sometimes as passionate as a waterfall, as if bringing people into a landscape painting.

As I listened, I secretly looked at Li Heng. I saw him sitting on the dragon chair with an expressionless face, his eyes were deep and unfathomable, making it impossible to tell what he was thinking.

What on earth is this old emperor up to? I muttered to myself, feeling that today's banquet was not that simple.

When the song ended, Li Heng was the first to applaud, and his ministers followed suit.

"Good! You play very well!" Li Heng praised, "Your Royal brother's piano skills are getting better and better."

"Thank you for the award, my brother." Li Rui smiled modestly and turned to look at me, "What do you think, Sister Qingya?"

I came back to my senses and said with a smile, "Your Majesty's piano skills are naturally excellent. But..." I paused deliberately, and when everyone's eyes were on me, I continued, "It's because I'm stupid that I can't understand what kind of mood this song expresses. Please enlighten me, Your Majesty."

I don't believe it. I, a modern man, can't cure you ancient people!

Li Rui was slightly startled, obviously not expecting me to ask such a question. I hesitated for a moment and was about to speak, but Li Heng spoke first, "Oh? Lord Lin's daughter is so knowledgeable about music? Then tell me, what kind of mood does this piece of music express?"

I sneered in my heart. This old emperor was really setting a trap for me! Trying to test my abilities? Humph, don't blame me for being rude!

I cleared my throat and pointed at Li Rui and said, "In reply to the emperor, although I don't understand music, I can see that when the prince played this piece, his expression was focused and his fingering was very familiar. It was obvious that he put his heart into it. And this piece of music is sometimes soothing and sometimes passionate. I dare to guess that what the prince played should be..."

I deliberately dragged out the last syllable of the sentence, looking back and forth between Li Rui and Li Heng, with a sly smile on the corner of my mouth.

"What should it be?" Li Heng asked, his tone revealing a hint of impatience.

I smiled and uttered two words slowly: "Love song."

As soon as I said this, the whole banquet hall fell silent. Everyone stared at me in disbelief, as if I had said something outrageous.

Li Rui's expression changed slightly, but soon returned to normal, except for a hint of imperceptible panic in his eyes.

Li Heng, on the other hand, burst into laughter as if he had heard some ridiculous joke.

"Love song? Hahaha..." Li Heng laughed so hard that he fell forward and backward, pointing at me and said, "Lord Lin, you really taught a good daughter! How dare you say that the song played by my brother was a love song? Hahaha..."

I stood there calmly, letting him laugh at me. I didn't believe it. I didn't believe that he would punish me for such a small matter!

The laughter stopped abruptly, and the smile on Li Heng's face gradually disappeared, replaced by a gloomy chill.

"Lin Qingya, do you know that the crime of deceiving the emperor is punishable by extermination of all nine generations of the clan?"
