Chapter 34
The box was exquisite, and the pattern on it reminded Lin Xing of the peach blossom hairpin she had just seen.
She walked forward and opened it, and it was just as Lin Xing had thought. But there were two hairpins in the box, one was the one she asked about, and the other was similar to the peach blossom hairpin, but the head of the hairpin was an apricot blossom.
This must have been bought by Xiaomei. Lin Xing recalled how hurried Xiaomei looked when she came back from buying the book and connected the two things.
Lin Xing took out the apricot blossom hairpin and looked at it carefully. It was glowing silvery under the moonlight. She touched her hair and silently put away the hairpin.
When she was working in the money shop, Lin Xing was just a maid and could not wear overly complicated hair accessories. After coming to the restaurant, in order not to trouble Huan'er, Lin Xing never did a very complicated bun. I often rely on muscle memory to tie my hair up casually and go out. It seems lazy, but it gives off a sense of chic.
Lin Xing likes to wear pink clothes, which makes her look more graceful. The completely opposite temperaments do not conflict with each other on her body, and others can only notice her raised hair and pink sleeves.
The gift was too valuable, so Lin Xing put it away carefully. She lay back in bed, gradually becoming sleepy. It would be three days before she woke up again.
The sound of firecrackers rang out again, and it was even louder than yesterday morning, and the restaurant also set off firecrackers to celebrate today. As the temple fair approached, everyone in the city was in high spirits, and the restaurants were already packed with people at the beginning of the morning.
After looking around and finding that she couldn't help, Lin Xing decided to go find Xiaomei to have a chat. Unexpectedly, I bumped into Xiaomei as soon as I arrived at the backyard. The fact that the two of them bumped into each other in broad daylight was all thanks to Xiaomei's absent-mindedness. She didn't look at the road.
"Ouch, I can't straighten my back." Lin Xing held her waist with a painful look on her face.
"Are you okay? Do you want to call a doctor?" He was obviously teasing Xiaomei, but she didn't notice and became anxious. She wanted to check Lin Xing's injuries while talking.
Fearing that she might make him angry, Lin Xing returned to her normal self and said in a pretentious manner, "I'm thick-skinned and it's okay. If you bump into someone else, I'll make you do the work for him."
Hearing the meaning of Lin Xing's words, Xiao Mei calmed down and said, "The shopkeeper taught me a lesson. I will never do this again next time."
"Xiaomei, you're not worried about money, are you? I like the gift you gave me, but isn't it too expensive?" Lin Xing asked tentatively, observing Xiaomei's expression from time to time.
"You worry too much. They are just two hairpins. Besides, didn't you give me a purse when you left the bank?"
Seeing that Xiaomei was about to bring up the past, Lin Xing quickly changed the subject and asked stubbornly, "Then why are you so absent-minded?"
"It's not a big deal." Xiao Mei didn't want to say it, but she changed her mind the moment she saw Lin Xing's expression, "Do you know Dingzhou?"
"Of course I know. Dingzhou is located at the foot of the capital and is famous for its Ding porcelain." Lin Xing paused and continued, "More importantly, you are from Dingzhou."
"That's true. Although I call myself an orphan, my parents were still alive." Xiaomei seemed to be thinking of something sad, and her tone became more depressed. "Whether intentionally or unintentionally, I have also been asking about Dingzhou's affairs. What if I am lucky enough to see my parents again?"
"Did something happen in Dingzhou? Or your parents?"
"I just received news that there is an epidemic in Dingzhou. There is no news about my parents."
"There is actually chaos right under the emperor's feet." This was said in a low voice, and Xiaomei at the side did not hear it clearly. Without waiting for her to ask, Lin Xing spoke again, "Don't worry, Dingzhou is a fortress in the world, and the emperor will not let anything happen there."
Xiaomei knew that worrying was useless. She didn't actually have deep feelings for her parents. With Lin Xing's comfort, she put the matter aside.
"Little shopkeeper, Xiaomei, come and help."
At the end of the Shen period, Lin Xing slumped in her chair, and even the usually indifferent Xiaomei looked tired. They never expected that the only free time of the day was the morning chat, and they were busy all day long. Not only them, there was no idle person in the restaurant.
While waiting for the food, the room was filled with the sound of constant clapping and relaxation. Then someone suddenly sighed, followed by a series of sighs. Lin Xing, Xiao Mei and Lin Huan were also infected and began to sigh.
Gradually, some people began to compete secretly, and the sighs became louder and louder, almost breaking through the sky. Liu Lian, who had just come out of the kitchen, heard all of this. She raised her eyebrows and said in a voice that covered her sigh, "What's wrong? You're sighing all the time. You don't have any energy at all."
Everyone stopped and said in unison: "I'm so tired."
"If you're tired, eat more so you'll have more energy to work tomorrow. This isn't the first time the city has held a temple fair. It happens every year. Are you guys still not used to it?"
Speechless, everyone lowered their heads in silence. Seeing that something was not right, Liu Lian added, "But we have been really hard these past few days, so our salaries will be doubled, and everyone will have a day off on the day of the temple fair."
Most of the people in the room are teenagers, and they can’t hide anything. Everyone was excited to hear the good news, as if they had already seen the holidays and salaries.
Seeing the morale boosted, Liu Lian showed a "controlled" smile of victory on her face, and Uncle Gui behind her also curled up the corners of his mouth unconsciously. But the encouragement seemed to be too much. Even after the food was placed on the table, no one started eating. Liu Lian had no choice but to clap her hands to stop everyone and threatened everyone with her eyes, “If you don’t eat, everything will be cancelled.”
Then came the sound of everyone picking up chopsticks in unison.
The closer it gets to the temple fair, the busier the restaurant becomes, but everyone in the restaurant is full of energy. Lin Xing felt that the temple fair had arrived in a daze. She had been so busy these past few days that she could always see a familiar figure outside the restaurant when she passed by its door.
Lin Xing thought that Yu Hang and Shen Ling had secretly returned to Nanru to attend the temple fair. She didn't see Yu Hang coming to see her for a long time, but instead saw Xiao Tao's figure outside the door. Now Lin Xing was sure that she was really busy. She thought that they were also busy, so why would they come to Nanru?
The restaurants were busy, and so was the city. Before Lin Xing noticed, the city had been completely transformed. Every household hangs brand new red lanterns and red silk outside the door to pray for blessings. At this time, there was a cheerful atmosphere everywhere in Nanru.
"Everyone has worked so hard these past few days. Tomorrow is the temple fair, and I hope everyone will have a great time."
At the command, everyone took off their saddles like horses and embraced freedom to their heart's content. All the fatigue from the past few days was washed away by the joy.
The crowd dispersed after a chattering, and Lin Xing sat where she was. She didn't want to move at all.
"Hurry up, the shopkeeper is going to the capital soon. If you don't take the initiative, you will have no chance."
"But…"
"Don't say but, just go."
Two voices came from behind Lin Xing, followed by a staggering sound of footsteps. When the footsteps became steady, Lin Xing looked back and saw a blushing boy holding a box walking towards her.
Out of humanitarianism, Lin Xing chose to stand up and greet him.
The boy stopped not far from her, a distance that ensured that Lin Xing could get the box without making her feel embarrassed. The boy took a deep breath and handed over the things in his hand, "Manager Lin, I would like to invite you to visit the temple fair with me."
Because they were far away just now, Lin Xing could hear the boy's voice more clearly now. It sounded like the boy was not much older than Lin Xing. The boy is very handsome, but he is going to be disappointed.
"I'm sorry, I already have an appointment that day."
As soon as he said this, the blush on the boy's face disappeared. After apologizing, he turned around and was about to leave, but in the end he turned back and handed the box to Lin Xing.
"Please accept it, Manager Lin, as a farewell gift."
The boy ran so fast that Lin Xing disappeared before she could call him. She could only accept the gift. But do people here follow the same routine when giving gifts? Just give it to you and disappear.
It's getting late, time to go back and rest. The first thing Lin Xing did when she entered the house was to light the lamp, which also made her notice an item that did not belong to her.
There was a pink dress on the table, no, there was also a light blue dress on the bed.
Lin Xing put down the things in her hands and looked at it carefully. The pink piece was made of precious fabric and had an intricate design. Even under the moonlight, one could see a faint glow. A closer look would make one amazed at its delicate pattern. The light blue one is made of soft fabric and has a simple yet exquisite style, making it more suitable for everyday wear.
Yu Hang, since you are here, why doesn’t he come to see me? Lin Xing has confirmed that the pink suit was worn by Yu Hang because he stuffed a note inside the clothes. The blue set should have been sent by Sister Lian. It really took a lot of effort for her.
After putting the two dresses away, Lin Xing finally remembered the box. She opened it and found a blue headband inside. The headband was trimmed with gold thread and had an apricot blossom pattern on it. It was simple yet elegant. At first glance, it looks like a set with the blue dress.
The next morning, Xiao Mei knocked on the door and was dazzled to see Lin Xing coming out. She had never seen Lin Xing wearing a blue dress before, this was the first time.
"Why don't you wear the hairpin I gave you?"
Lin Xing touched her hair guiltily. She had no hair accessories, only a blue headband.
"The hairpin is too valuable, so I kept it as a treasure. Besides, I was afraid of missing the opportunity."
Xiao Mei couldn't argue with Lin Xing, and she didn't want to get too entangled, so she was dragged to find Lin Huan.
"Sister Xiaoxing, Sister Xiaomei, let's set off quickly." Lin Huan had been waiting for them for a long time and became excited when he saw them.
The three of them pushed and shoved their way out of the restaurant. During the process, they ran into Liu Lian. She looked at Lin Xing, came over and asked in a low voice: "Did you promise Xiao Su?"
"Humph, I knew it was Sister Lian who gave him the idea. This headband and clothes are a set, Sister Lian must have worked hard."
"It was Xiao Su who came to me for help, so I came up with this bad idea. Isn't Xiao Su better than Shen Ling?"
In just a few words, Lin Xing had already fallen far behind the other two. She wanted to explain, but when she heard Lin Huan's shout, she had to put the matter aside and go outside. Liu Lian watched their every move with a smile from behind.
It is called a temple fair, but in Lin Xing's opinion it is more like a wedding. All the merchants are decorated with red silk, and at first glance it looks like ten miles of red wedding dresses, magnificent and incomparable. There are statues of the God of Land and many sedan chairs placed on the open space on the street.
It was the first time for the three of them to see such a scene. Everything they saw was curious and they were fascinated without realizing it. When Lin Xing came to her senses, she found that someone was missing.
Lin Huan is missing?
Xiao Mei and she realized it at the same time, and they hurried back, calling Lin Huan's name as they moved through the crowd. After walking for a long time, Lin Xing didn't see Lin Huan.
"Did Huan'er go to the front by himself? Why don't we look for him forward?"
Lin Xing didn't turn around when she said this. She was busy looking for Lin Huan's shadow. After not receiving a reply for a long time, Lin Xing turned around with an ominous premonition, but there was no familiar face around her.
Xiaomei is missing too!
