Chapter 49
"Zhao Qi? Is she the woman that the Li family married a few days ago?"
"yes."
After confirming Zhao Qi's identity, County Magistrate Wu refused to give an accurate answer. Lin Xing had no choice but to reveal his plan.
"I think Supervisor Yu must have told the county magistrate that we will return to Hongci Posthouse at 3:00 pm tomorrow. In order to catch the county magistrate in the act, we invited him to come under the name of Li Dongyi."
"Master Lin, do you mean to blend our people into the funeral procession?"
"I am not talented enough to think of any other method. Please advise me, magistrate."
Magistrate Wu laughed and said, "Since Lord Lin has a plan, then we will act according to your instructions."
He threw a token to Yu Hang, which drew an arc in the air and fell accurately into Yu Hang's hands.
"I will stay in the city and wait for you all tomorrow. This token can prove your identities. I'll leave the Red Porcelain Posthouse to you."
At the end, Magistrate Wu bowed and the three men stood up to return the greeting. The county magistrate was very busy, so they couldn't stay any longer and wanted to say goodbye and leave.
"I want to tell Yu Hang something, is that okay?"
Lin Xing and Shen Ling tactfully left, closed the door, and left the space in the house for the two of them.
"What do you think they will talk about, Shopkeeper Lin?"
Lin Xing casually plucked off the leaves of the plants beside her and replied nonchalantly, "It's nothing more than a long-awaited reunion or making arrangements for tomorrow's affairs, what else could it be?"
Shen Ling nodded, walked over to make amends and helped her pluck leaves. Not long after the two of them finished talking, Yu Hang walked out of the room. Calculating the time, it turned out that they only said two sentences.
"Why isn't Magistrate Wu with you?"
Yu Hang glanced at his hand, “If he came out with me, wouldn’t he know that Deputy Envoy Shen had plucked all the leaves from his house?”
"It's not just me, you see she's also here..."
Shen Ling stopped and pointed at Lin Xing beside him. She was standing there with her hands behind her back, looking innocent. Apart from the bald spot in front of her, there was no sign of her previous behavior. Shen Ling was speechless for a moment.
"I didn't, don't talk nonsense."
Shen Ling laughed speechlessly and reached out to grab another handful. Looking at his hands full of leaves, the three of them couldn't help laughing.
"Okay, let's go quickly. It will be difficult to explain when the county magistrate comes out." Lin Xing dragged people away one by one.
"I wonder what the next plan is?"
"I will go back to the Li Mansion. You go to the county government office to find Brother Liu and ask him to give the letter to County Magistrate Zhao."
"letter?"
The next moment Yu Hang stuffed a letter directly into his hands. Shen Ling was not curious about the contents of the letter and put it away directly.
"Then Supervisor Yu is an idle person?"
"Of course not. Lin Xing and I are going to the Li residence together."
Shen Ling didn't want to talk, so he really asked too much. The three of them walked forward, and if they looked back, they would find a small green tail behind them.
"Inspector Yu."
"Are there any suspicious people entering or leaving the Li residence?"
The guard hesitated for a moment, then knelt on one knee and said, "Please punish me, Inspector General. After you left yesterday, a man in black broke into Li's mansion at night, but he didn't do anything. He just looked from a distance and left."
The two looked at each other, and Yu Hang asked, "Can you confirm the situation in the mansion?"
"Confirmed, there is nothing unusual."
Yu Hang frowned, and Lin Xing asked, "Has County Magistrate Zhao confirmed it?"
"It has also been confirmed that he doesn't know about the Li Mansion yet."
"Then it's not a big problem. As long as it doesn't affect our plan, it's fine. Yu Hang, let him get up."
The guard felt Yu Hang's gaze, understood what his boss meant, and stood up.
"Pass on my order and continue the investigation in secret."
"yes!"
The two entered Li's mansion. All living things seemed to be alive. Every blade of grass and every tree in the mansion seemed to know what had happened. They looked much more lifeless than they had in the previous two days.
Lin Xing walked all the way to the outside of the Zhaixing Pavilion, and felt that there was no change here.
"Inspector Yu, Lord Lin!"
"Thank you for your hard work, keeping you here all the time."
"This is my responsibility." The guard raised his head and looked at Lin Xing, "I have something to report to Lord Lin."
"What's wrong?"
"The woman in the room has been kneeling here and has not stood up yet. She has not touched a single bite of the food that was brought to her."
The door was closed. Lin Xing had no idea what was going on in the room, and she thought it wasn't very good. She nodded to indicate that she knew about it, then stepped in.
Yu Hang carefully stayed outside the door, acting as a sculpture with the guards. There were not only the two of them sculpting, but also Xun Zhu in the house. This was Lin Xing’s first thought when he saw her.
"Xun Zhu, why don't you listen? Didn't I tell you to have a good rest and take your daughter home tomorrow?"
"I can't bear to leave the young lady here alone."
A hoarse voice sounded, and Lin Xing could no longer blame her. She walked forward and forcefully helped her up. Xun Zhu had long since lost all his strength and was kneeling on his back, so Lin Xing easily pressed him down on the stool.
"We have informed the county magistrate, and he has agreed to set out for Nanru at Chou time tomorrow."
"Really? We can go home?"
Xun Zhu became excited and wanted to laugh, but her lips were cracked and bleeding from not drinking water all night. The pain made her laugh even louder, and she was sobbing by the end of her laughter.
The red color on the lips frightened Lin Xing. She hurriedly poured tea and handed the cup to Xun Zhu. The tea was no longer hot and was even a little cold. But Xun Zhu didn't care and drank it all in one breath.
"You must go and rest now while we place your young lady in the coffin and prepare for your return home."
As if afraid that Lin Xing would go back on her word, Xun Zhu kept answering and ran out of the house, scaring the two people outside the door.
"Master Lin, now?"
"Call the people we brought in to help Miss Zhao with her appearance."
People had been waiting outside the yard early, and a short and thin figure quickly entered the house. She was the undertaker that Lin Xing had temporarily found. No, she wasn't even an undertaker, she was just a coffin-making shop that had come to help temporarily.
After dealing with the dead for so long, the old woman quickly left the house, "All right."
"Thank you, old lady. Here is my wages."
The old woman didn't take it, and glanced at Lin Xing, "Why are you talking about wages? Didn't you pay for the coffin?"
"This is to thank you for your help just now."
"snort."
The old woman just passed Lin Xing and left. Seeing that she was unwilling to accept it, Lin Xing wanted the guards to send her away, but before she could open her mouth, the old woman's voice came over.
"Don't let anyone follow me."
The voice and the figure disappeared together. Lin Xing stood there helplessly and raised her hand to signal to put Zhao Qi into the coffin in the yard. Everything went smoothly, but an accident occurred when the coffin was being closed.
"Wait a minute, wait a minute!"
The familiar voice stopped everyone's actions. Lin Xing turned around and looked, "Xun Zhu, what happened?"
"Sorry, I want these things to accompany my young lady."
Lin Xing did not stop him and watched Xun Zhu running towards the coffin with a bundle in his arms. Perhaps because he was too tired, Xun Zhu accidentally fell down, and the bundle in his hand flew out, and the things in it scattered all over the ground.
There were bits and pieces scattered all over the floor, all small items, from hairpins to rattles.
Xun Zhu also realized this and wanted to stand up to pick it up, but fell to the ground again. Lin Xing went to help her up, and when she helped her up, the bag was returned to Xun Zhu.
She hugged him in her arms and cried silently. Lin Xing wanted to help her to the coffin, but was rejected. Xun Zhu limped forward firmly.
Except for Xun Zhu, everyone kept a distance from Zhao Qi, watching her put the bag in but staying there for a short while. Lin Xing guessed that she was stroking Zhao Qi's cheek, and perhaps some tears fell on Zhao Qi's closed eyes.
She took her hand back and said tremblingly, "Manager Lin, close the coffin."
Xun Zhu watched the whole process of closing the coffin and nailing the nails, and her eyes depicted Zhao Qi's face through the wooden board.
It was quiet all around, and she walked away from the center with heavy steps, "Manager Lin, I will go back to rest first, because I still have to carry the coffin tomorrow."
"Let me take you back."
"Don't bother Manager Lin. I think you still have things to deal with. I can do it myself."
Lin Xing no longer forced him and silently made way, hoping to save Xun Zhu some energy.
"Let's go, let's go meet Li Dongyi."
"Stay here and don't let anyone else get close."
After leaving the yard, Lin Xing found that many people were peeking, and most of them were holding chrysanthemums in their hands. She pretended not to know and left with Yu Hang.
"Why didn't you speak up to stop those people?"
"They didn't do anything, why should we stop them?" Lin Xing's eyes fell on the uneven chrysanthemums on the roadside, and she raised her hand to pluck another one.
"They are sneaky, what if something happens?"
"No." Lin Xing's tone was so certain that Yu Hang couldn't help but believe her.
Lin Xing stopped outside the woodshed and said, "I'll go in by myself, you can go later."
Yu Hang didn't understand why, but he obeyed obediently.
"Long time no see, Master Li."
I don’t know what he did in the house. Li Dongyi’s hair crown fell off, his hair was messy, and he looked completely different from the first time he saw him.
"What are you doing here?!" His voice was as loud as a bell. It seemed that he was not very hungry.
"I'm here to give you a ride. Don't you see the chrysanthemums in my hand?" Lin Xing turned the chrysanthemums around twice and then threw them directly at Li Dongyi's face.
"Zhao County Magistrate is really poor. He asked his men to send me off and even took my chrysanthemums."
Lin Xing smiled and said, "I was just teasing you. How could County Magistrate Zhao bear to kill you?"
Then he changed the subject, "Let me ask you, did the Prime Minister send someone to look for you?"
Li Dongyi seemed to have caught something, and said excitedly: "I knew that the Prime Minister would not give up on me. To tell you the truth, the Prime Minister had already given up on your master."
"Really? Do you believe I will kill you right now?"
Li Dongyi changed his posture, sat cross-legged on the ground, looked at Lin Xing provocatively, and said nothing. Lin Xing also cooperated by pretending to be angry, saying a few harsh words and storming off.
"Okay, go in. You don't have to say anything. Just tell him to follow us to Hongciyi tomorrow."
"good."
Yu Hang walked up the stairs confidently, then sneakily opened the door and entered.
"You're here again? Does the Prime Minister have something to arrange?"
Prime Minister? What the hell?
Yu Hang was confused but didn't show it on his face. He pretended to be profound and said, "Yes, the Prime Minister asked me to tell you to follow me to Hongci Posthouse tomorrow. Then we will arrest County Magistrate Zhao and put all the blame on him."
"The Prime Minister will spare your life."
"Thank you very much, Prime Minister. By the way, tell Lord Sun to be careful and not be discovered by the county magistrate's men."
"I see. Of course the Prime Minister can consider this matter. Do I need you to remind me?"
"Your Excellency is right. I was too talkative."
Yu Hang stood up and looked down at him, "Remember, I will pick you up at the Hongci Posthouse at Chou time tomorrow, so don't miss it."
The door was opened, Lin Xing looked over, and Yu Hang made an "OK" gesture to her.
