Chapter 82

Chapter 82

It was almost winter and the wind was howling coldly. Yu Hang was standing in the wind. The carriage was parked on the official road. The leaves on the trees on both sides of the road had already turned yellow and fell to the ground under the violent shaking. The weather was not good today and the sky was gray. Yu Hang was very conspicuous in his bright clothes.

Everyone else was ready to set off, except Yu Hang, who had not yet boarded the car. The two looked at each other from afar, and for a moment, Lin Xing seemed to have returned to Nanru, when she didn't have to work so hard.

This time no one dodged. They just looked at each other as if time had stood still. Without saying much to each other, they got on the bus separately in silence.

After sleeping for a whole morning, Lin Xing was extremely awake. She stared out the window, counting the trees passing by one by one, and each one seemed to be trying to stop them from walking.

Suddenly a strong wind blew up, and the sand blew up Lin Xing's eyes, making them squint. She could only shrink her eyes temporarily and kept rubbing her eyes, hoping to relieve the sore feeling.

After she was completely back to normal, she stuck her head out again. The carriage had just driven out of the official road and came to a small road. This road made her feel very familiar. She had a vague guess in her mind and asked the coachman, "Can this road pass through Quyang?"

"We'll be there before dark. The two adults have already instructed us to rest temporarily at the inn in Quyang tonight." The road was uneven, and even the voice was a little shaky.

Lin Xing's mood began to fluctuate with the bumpy ride of the carriage. Xiaomei and the others were in Quyang, and she wondered if they could meet this time. She originally wanted to go to the clinic to look for Xiaomei as soon as she arrived at the inn, but she immediately decided not to do so. If Xiaomei knew the purpose of her trip, she would definitely follow her. However, they could not even guarantee their own safety, so naturally she did not want Xiaomei to take the risk.

Why not keep it a secret and put on your coat to secretly take a look at Xiaomei? No, no, the mask is too conspicuous and will definitely attract attention. Also, I can't lie to Xiaomei anymore. I promised her.

No matter how much she thought, there was no perfect answer. Lin Xing wished that a flower would appear out of thin air in her hand so that she could solve the problem with the most old-fashioned method. Thinking of this, she suddenly had an idea. Counting petals was to wait for fate, so it would be better to take it one step at a time. There was not much difference between the two.

She felt that she was really smart. She had come up with such a win-win solution, and she immediately relaxed and continued with her unfinished task.

When she counted to the 15,887th tree, she vaguely saw the north gate of Quyang. Her calm mood immediately became nervous. She sat up straight unconsciously, lowered the curtains, and could no longer count.

"Sir, we have arrived in Quyang." Hearing the coachman's reminder, Lin Xing took a deep breath, then lifted the curtain. They had already entered the city.

Although it was now dark, there were still many pedestrians on the road. Lin Xing looked at the faces one after another and felt that she had seen them all. In the end, she had reached the point where whenever she saw an old man's back, she thought it was Doctor Li, and whenever she saw a woman's back, she thought it was Xia Xi.

Finally, she could step on the familiar ground in person and let the memories come back.

This time they didn't want to be too conspicuous, so they checked into separate inns. To ensure their safety, Yu Hang and Lin Xing stayed in one inn, while Su Jingfeng and a few guards stayed in another inn not far away.

So when Lin Xing got off the carriage, she only saw Yu Hang.

"Do you want to go meet Xiaomei and the others?" Yu Hang asked tentatively.

Lin Xing nodded heavily, "That's exactly what I meant."

"That's good." Yu Hang smiled widely and took credit, "I specially chose an inn that's close to the clinic. I was afraid you would accuse me of being nosy."

Following his meaning, Lin Xing smiled in appreciation, "You are very thoughtful. So do you want to go with me?"

Yu Hang said regretfully, "No, the county magistrate has learned that we have arrived in Quyang. He will come to the inn to discuss matters with us soon. I am afraid he will not be able to get away."

After hearing what he said, Lin Xing did not force it. After asking the location of her room, she left on her own.

Yu Hang was really thoughtful. Although their inn didn't seem close to the clinic, if they went from the alley, they would arrive there in less than half an incense stick of time. Lin Xing's steps became lighter and lighter. She could already imagine Xiaomei's surprised expression when she saw her.

Turning the last corner with a happy mood, she stopped outside the clinic, walked forward happily and knocked three times again, unconsciously with a sense of urgency.

After nine knocks, the door was still locked. Lin Xing was puzzled. She thought everyone had fallen asleep, so she raised her hand to knock again. At this time, a head popped up from the grocery store next door, "Don't knock, girl. Doctor Li went to West Street for a free clinic."

It was a somewhat vicissitudes female voice. She secretly judged the age of the person in her heart and replied politely: "Thank you for the reminder, do you know when they will be back?"

The woman had only her head exposed. When she heard Lin Xing's voice, she jumped out. She walked up to her in two steps, held her hand and said excitedly, "Master Lin, why didn't you tell us in advance that you were coming back? We didn't prepare anything. If you don't mind, why don't you come to my shop and have a cup of hot tea?"

Her face was illuminated by the lanterns hanging outside the shops, and Lin Xing finally recognized who she was. This was her first acquaintance, and she became excited. "No need to trouble you, Auntie. I just passed by Quyang on the way. I thought I haven't seen you all for a long time, so I took the time to come and visit you. I will leave at noon tomorrow."

"Is that so?" The old lady's tone was slightly depressed. Thinking of Lin Xing's behavior just now, she brought the topic back on track. "Doctor Li has been out for a day. I don't know when he will be back. But he gave me the key to the front door. Lord Lin, do you want to go in and take a look?"

Hearing this, Lin Xing gently shook her head at the old lady and said, "No need. I came here to see someone anyway. This is God's will."

Then she took out a letter and put it in the old lady's hand, asking: "Please help me deliver this letter to Xiaomei, so that my trip won't be in vain."

The old lady nodded hurriedly and responded repeatedly. After some politeness, the two of them parted ways. Unexpectedly, the old lady closed the door and then suddenly opened it again. Lin Xing had already walked some distance away, so she could only close it again.

"What a crow's mouth! I've never seen this before." Lin Xing muttered softly on the way back. She found a pebble from somewhere, kicked it as she walked, and took it back to the inn with her.

It was dark all around. She was feeling a little annoyed as she looked at the pebble that she could never kick far away. When she met it again, she kicked it away with all her might. It rolled out of Lin Xing's sight with a "gurgling" sound. She curled the corners of her mouth.

"Hmph!" A muffled groan sounded in the silent night. Lin Xing was stunned for a moment, feeling a little regretful. Could it be that her pebble hit someone? After she came to her senses, she hurried forward to look. As the distance got closer, a dark shadow came into her sight.

The man was wearing black clothes and a bamboo hat on his head, so his face could not be seen clearly; he was curled up so his body shape could not be seen. Lin Xing didn't dare to step forward for a moment, but looking at the man's weak hands, morality finally prevailed.

She squatted down, got closer to the man, and asked softly, "Are you okay?" She also tentatively pushed him with her hand.

The man wanted to raise his arm and wave to her, but he didn't even have the strength to do that. He could only say weakly, "Nothing."

Brother, you don't look okay, do you? But Lin Xing only complained in her heart and didn't dare say it out loud because she found that the man was wearing a sword. The other party had no intention of hurting her, and there was no smell of blood on his body. After hesitating for a while, Lin Xing began to search for the pills she carried with her.

The man was attracted by her actions and stared at her in confusion. He opened his mouth to speak, but Lin Xing had already taken out the pill and took the opportunity to stuff it into his mouth.

The man in black reacted very quickly and began to struggle immediately, but he was still a step too late. Lin Xing covered his mouth tightly and did not let go until she was sure that he had swallowed it.

"Cough, cough, cough, what did you give me to eat?" The man in black couldn't stop coughing, his voice was a little hoarse, and even though he was so weak, he still wanted to draw his sword.

The unkind tone made Lin Xing rebellious. She stood up, clapped her hands, and said gloomily, "Of course it's poison. When the poison takes effect, I will feed your body to the dogs."

The man in black obviously didn't believe it, and Lin Xing didn't want to argue with him any longer, so she turned around and left. The man stared at her back motionlessly, as if he had taken poison.

"Bang!" A ceramic bottle hit the man in black accurately. He quickly caught the bottle that was about to fall. After a moment of stunned expression, he looked up and saw Lin Xing raising her right hand, waving goodbye to him.

"Ginseng Pills" is written in delicate font on the ceramic bottle.

There was only a dozing servant in the lobby of the inn. Even the creaking sound of the door did not wake him up. Lin Xing walked lightly to the second floor. Her room was on the inside of Yu Hang's room. When she passed by his door quietly, someone came out of the room.

The two of them exchanged glances and walked into the house together.

Lin Xing sat down at the table carefreely. Yu Hang poured her some water considerately. After watching her put down her teacup, he asked, "Have you seen Xiaomei and the others?"

"No." The low voice paused, then continued, "But there is a strange man in the alley behind the clinic."

Yu Hang was a little nervous and asked hurriedly: "Are you injured?"

Lin Xing stretched out her arms helplessly, "No, don't worry, that person was seriously injured and can't even stand up."

Yu Hang was obviously relieved, and began to explain the matters he had discussed with the county magistrate. "The county magistrate was not away for long. If you had come back earlier, you might have run into him."

"What did he say to you?" he asked with a big yawn.

"They are all trivial family matters. The emperor didn't want him to interfere too much in the matter, so he didn't tell him everything. He said... let us... come here more often when we have the chance... to accompany him." Yu Hang spoke haltingly, and it was obvious that he was hiding something, but Lin Xing didn't want to care. She was so sleepy that mist appeared in front of her eyes.

"If I have the chance in the future, I can come to Quyang often. I quite like the sesame cakes here." Another yawn.

Seeing this, Yu Hang hurriedly advised her to go back and rest, "It's getting late now, you should go and rest quickly, you have to get up early tomorrow."

"Okay, remember to call me tomorrow, otherwise getting up late will delay the trip." Lin Xing got up from the stool in a daze, and after entering her room, she didn't remember whether she lay down on the bed and fell asleep.

Yu Hang did lie, but they were just insignificant things.
