Chapter 7
They both said in unison: "What's wrong?"
Then they saw Lin Xing rubbing her eyes frantically, which made them even more confused. Huan'er, who was closer to Lin Xing, walked up to her and patted her shoulder soothingly.
Lin Xing smiled at them and said, "Nothing, I just felt dazzled."
Hearing this, Liu Lian immediately relaxed, tapped Lin Xing's forehead, and said with a helpless smile: "It's getting late, the moon has risen, why don't you two go back and rest first, there's no rush for these accounts."
"How can that be possible? Sister Lian is also very tired today. How can we leave you here alone?"
Lin Huan nodded frantically beside him.
Liu Lian and Lin Xing argued for a few more sentences, but couldn't persuade her anymore, so they were dragged out the door. What made her happy was that they didn't forget to close the door.
Liu Lian sent the two back to their rooms before returning to her own bedroom. Lin Xing lay on her bed thinking about what had just happened. She didn't know how such a strange thing could have happened.
The dizziness just now was just an illusion. She actually saw Magistrate Gao’s name in the account book. Was this a coincidence? This only made her confused. What really made her scream out loud was the white snake she saw when she looked up accidentally. How could Xiaobai be here? Maybe when she looked again, Xiaobai disappeared again.
There were too many questions. Lin Xing pondered on the bed for a long time but couldn't figure it out. Gradually, she felt sleepy. Her last thought before falling asleep was: Practice makes perfect. I will go to the accounting office to check tomorrow.
The familiar rooster crowed again. Although it was only the second day, Lin Xing felt that she had adapted well. Perhaps this was the kind of life she should live.
Just as Liu Lian said, the restaurant today is indeed not as busy as yesterday, but Lin Xing feels that it is not as busy as yesterday. After all, yesterday she did not need to stand here and listen to a few customers bragging, she only needed to work hard.
This happened half an hour ago, when a few dandies dressed like colorful peacocks came as soon as the restaurant opened. Their flamboyant outfits and high-pitched voices did make Lin Xing take a second look, but Lin Xing was just curious. She did not laugh at them. She knew very well that one cannot judge a book by its cover and one cannot measure the depth of the sea.
After they sat down, Lin Xing withdrew her gaze, guessing that they were just a few ordinary wealthy guests. A waiter came forward to greet them and they obediently ordered the dishes. After the food came, there was a quarrel at that table.
really!
Lin Xing and Uncle Gui looked at each other, and Uncle Gui gestured to her to let him handle the matter himself first. Lin Xing kept watching Uncle Gui talking to them and felt that Uncle Gui's arrival was useless and the situation seemed to be getting worse.
The argument ended with the sentence "Where is your boss? I want to talk to her in person." Lin Xing found that Uncle Gui was looking at her apologetically. She smiled at Uncle Gui and walked over to him.
"Gentlemen, I am the owner of the restaurant. I wonder what happened to make you so angry?"
"Are you the owner? A woman can open a restaurant these days. This is really a decline of morals."
When those people saw Lin Xing coming over, they began to look at her unscrupulously, and even mocked her after hearing what she said.
Lin Xing resisted the urge to slap them all, and responded with her gentlest words: "Is the world going downhill? The new emperor has ascended the throne, and now it is thriving. I didn't expect that you gentlemen have such different opinions. Then I think you should all be officials in the court. I wonder if you can speak so boldly under the feet of the emperor. Does the emperor value you?"
They are all a bunch of idiots. Not to mention becoming officials in the court, if it weren't for their wealthy families, they would probably starve to death on the streets.
Hearing Lin Xing's ridicule, the leading young master wanted to say something else but was stopped by the person next to him. The person whispered a few words in his ear, and unexpectedly, these few words changed his expression from angry and embarrassed to confident of victory.
"I don't want to argue with a little girl like you. I just want justice. Why are you using fakes to fool us? If I weren't so knowledgeable, I would have been fooled by you."
"Please tell me in detail, sir."
"I am also your old customer. Are you trying to fool me with fake wine?"
Uncle Gui couldn't bear to listen any longer, and answered before Lin Xing could speak: "Mr. Zhao, you also know that we are an old store, how could we do such a thing?"
"But now the restaurant has a new owner. Who knows what it's like now? Isn't this fake wine the best proof?"
If he was looking down on Lin Xing directly just now, now he was looking at her with a sarcastic contempt.
Seeing that the criticism was directed at herself, Lin Xing reached out to pick up the bottle of wine, pretended to look around, and then acted shocked.
"Mr. Zhao, this is definitely not our wine."
"Why do you say that? Are you trying to shirk responsibility?"
"Mr. Zhao, you don't know this, I just came to the restaurant, and a few days ago I asked everyone to paint flowers on the bottles in our restaurant. Look, there is nothing on this bottle of wine."
Young Master Zhao immediately snatched the bottle and looked back and forth. The more he looked, the worse his expression became. Even so, he said stubbornly, "How can I know about this kind of thing? It all depends on your words."
"Uncle Gui, go get another bottle of the same wine."
Lin Xing winked at Uncle Gui, asking him to get some wine, and then said to Master Zhao, "You are right, I will get another bottle of wine for you to compare."
Uncle Gui was very efficient. He came back not long after Lin Xing finished speaking. Master Zhao immediately took the wine and examined it. Sure enough, there was a small flower under the bottle.
Regardless of whether this was Lin Xing's plan or not, they had already lost their voice. Seeing this, the young master next to Young Master Zhao spoke up: "I'm so sorry for all of you. This wine has been replaced by someone. The shopkeeper must find out who is the traitor."
If this incident became a big deal, it would affect the reputation of the restaurant. Seeing that the other party had already given a way out, Lin Xing just went along with the conversation.
"Thank you for your reminder, gentlemen. However, it was also our fault today. This bottle of wine is our apology. I hope you don't mind."
"I dare not, I dare not. Your wine is famous far and wide."
Everyone present gave a fake smile, and Lin Xing gestured and took Uncle Gui away.
When they walked to the backyard, Uncle Gui said helplessly to Lin Xing, "Boss, you just arrived and you don't know yet. The one leading the group is Young Master Zhao Shenling, and the one next to him is Young Master Shen Ling. Both of their families are very rich, and the others are their followers."
Uncle Gui seemed to have thought of something, shook his head and continued, "They both rely on their family background to do whatever they want. The restaurant used to be owned by the Zhao family. I guess they came to cause trouble because of this matter. It's really unfair to the shopkeeper."
"That's not right. Since I'm the owner of the restaurant, I have to take responsibility. I don't feel wronged."
Seeing that Uncle Gui was still trying to help her, Lin Xing quickly said, "Uncle Gui, there are more people here now, let's go and help."
After Lin Xing finished speaking, she skipped away without caring about Uncle Gui. When she arrived at the lobby, Lin Xing found that the people at that table were still there. She was worried that they might cause trouble again, so she kept staring at them.
Lin Xing discovered that although Zhao Shenling looked like their boss, he was actually just incompetent and furious, while Shen Ling served as a military advisor. This kind of people are often the most terrifying, so she decided to investigate Shen Ling.
Perhaps because he looked at her for too long, Shen Ling actually turned around and looked in the direction of Lin Xing. Lin Xing was startled, but Shen Ling did not make trouble for her. He smiled at her and turned around to continue drinking.
Lin Xing felt mixed emotions. Judging from Uncle Gui's tone just now, she guessed that Shen Ling was not a good person. It was such a waste of his good looks.
He was wearing a blue shirt today, which made him look even more gentle next to the ostentatious Zhao Shen collar. If Lin Xing hadn't known that he was the one who planned today's events, she might have really been deceived by his appearance.
A few people just drank and didn't make any more trouble. After watching them leave, Lin Xing wanted to go back to the backyard to rest, but was stopped by someone. When she turned around, she found that it was Shen Ling.
Sensing Lin Xing's surprise, Shen Ling quickly said, "I'm here to apologize to the shopkeeper. It was because we were too reckless today that the shopkeeper was in trouble."
Lin Xing put on a professional fake smile and replied, "It's okay. It's my fault for being careless and letting someone take advantage of me. You guys are all outstanding people, how could you be so reckless?"
Hearing Lin Xing's sarcasm, Shen Ling did not get angry. Instead, he handed the fan in his hand to Lin Xing, "Please accept it, shopkeeper. This is my apology."
"No need. It's autumn now and the weather is nice and crisp, so there's no need for a fan. Master Shen should just put it away."
Seeing that Lin Xing was determined not to take it, Shen Ling apologized and threw the fan to Lin Xing. Lin Xing subconsciously went to take it, but when she looked up after receiving the fan, Shen Ling had disappeared.
Lin Xing stood there messily with the fan in her hand, silently cursing him for being crazy in her heart, and then she accepted the defeat and went to the backyard with the fan in her hand. On the way back, she happened to meet Liu Lian who was walking towards the lobby, and Lin Xing quickly greeted Sister Lian.
"Sister Lian, thank you for your hard work."
"Oh, compared to the shopkeeper, I'm not that hard-working. I heard you were given a hard time this morning. Did they bully you?"
Liu Lian came to Lin Xing and pulled her up and down, acting as a doctor.
"No, and Uncle Gui was there at the time. Would he let me be bullied?"
Liu Lian finally felt relieved, but she suddenly noticed the fan in Lin Xing's hand and her heart started to rise again.
"Is this fan given to you by Shen Ling? Don't be fooled by him. He is not a good person. You just got here and you don't know. That guy is in the brothel every day. He has a lot of concubines at home before he married a wife. He is definitely not a good man."
Liu Lian mumbled a lot, as if she wanted to list all the bad things Shen Ling had done, which made Lin Xing smile bitterly, so she had to interrupt her quickly.
"Sister Lian, you misunderstood. He gave me this fan as an apology. I don't have that kind of feeling towards him. I don't like this kind of playboy."
"Sister Lian, are you going to get busy? Go ahead. I'm going to go back and rest first. See you in the evening."
Lin Xing didn't give Liu Lian any chance to speak and ran away quickly, leaving Sister Lian looking at her back and complaining about the child.
After putting away the fan, Lin Xing lay down on the bed. After resting for a while, she suddenly remembered the account book. She thought of going to take a look at it since she had nothing to do, but the bed was too soft and she really didn't want to get up.
Bang, bang, bang, there was a rhythmic sound of hitting the door. Lin Xing couldn't rest, so she could only get up and see what was going on. It turned out to be Xiaobai outside the door.
Before Lin Xing recovered from her shock, Xiaobai slipped away, and she could only hurry to catch up to see where it wanted to go.
