Chapter 36036 Apprenticeship

Chapter 36

Yingji looked at Kongfan strangely.

disappointment?

She thought carefully about Kong Fan's question. Her heart was empty, without a trace of disappointment.

Yingji quickly figured it out. She had never placed any hope on Kou Yuze. Without hope, how could she be disappointed?

Not only did Kou Yuze not feel disappointed about what happened today, but Ying Ji seemed to have lost the feeling of disappointment in her heart a long time ago.

Yingji thought for a moment and said, "I understand. You're not telling me if I'm disappointed. You're actually disappointed, aren't you? Disappointment doesn't get rid of a big problem like me."

Kong Fan was slightly startled, and immediately explained: "I didn't think so."

"No, you didn't." Ying Ji leaned forward, moving closer to Kong Fan across the small square table, and pressed, "Have you ever thought about getting rid of me?"

Although he knew Yingji said this on purpose, Kongfan still patiently explained: "I'm not disappointed that Kou Yuze can't take you away."

After a pause, he added, "I just hope Yingji isn't disappointed."

"I'm going to catch the monster." Kong Fan stood up, turned around and walked out.

Yingji stared at Kongfan's back, watching him walk away. She didn't look away until he was out of sight. She pinched another piece of candy from the box and put it in her mouth.

The gummy candy is soft and can be easily crushed and bitten by teeth, and then a rich sweetness bursts out, filling the space between the lips and teeth with sweetness.

Yingji seldom ate sweets before.

She felt the sweetness spreading in her mouth bit by bit, from appearing to blooming, and then dissipating bit by bit.

Yingji picked up another piece of candy from the box. She didn't put it in her mouth immediately, but squinted her eyes to examine the crystal clear green candy. If she guessed correctly, this candy should be apple flavored.

The piece she just ate was strawberry flavored. The piece she ate first was peach flavored.

Yingji looked at the few remaining pieces of candy in the small box and felt something in her heart.

——Is Kong Fan worried that she would be disappointed by Kou Yuze’s slip of the tongue, so he deliberately bought candy to coax her?

Yingji was shocked by her own guess.

No way?

Really not?

Yingji put the apple-flavored gummy candy between her fingers into her mouth, bit by bit, and slowly savored its sweetness.

·

The next morning, someone came to the palace. Yingji thought it was Lingyuguo who wanted to take her to investigate the death of Venerable Difu.

It turned out that it was Ling Jiayan who sent the invitation, inviting Ying Ji to stay in the East Palace.

He still remembered the conversation between the two of them yesterday morning, and he really came to invite her.

Yingji changed her clothes and followed the palace maid to the East Palace. Crossing the corridor, Yingji vaguely saw Xuanji trotting towards a man. The door closed quickly, and Yingji could not see the man's face clearly.

However, Yingji just glanced at her casually and didn't care about Xuanji's affairs at all, and had no curiosity about her affairs.

Yingji followed the palace maid to the East Palace and was led into a flower hall.

"Please wait here for a moment, Princess. His Highness will be here soon." said the palace servant.

Yingji nodded.

The palace maid who led Ying Ji retreated, and soon two other palace maids came in with tea and snacks.

Yingji drank tea and ate two pieces of dessert.

Yingji was already very skilled in the use of poison, so she wasn't worried about anyone poisoning her tea or snacks. Besides, there was no need for Ling Jiayan to go to the trouble of inviting her here and then clumsily poisoning her.

After a while, Ling Jiayan still hadn't arrived. Yingji surveyed the hall. It was large, and the closed door seemed to indicate there were elegant rooms behind. On the desk under the window on the other side lay several scrolls, along with brushes, inkstones, and paper.

This place doesn't seem like a hall just for entertaining guests, but more like a study where the owner reads and rests on weekdays.

Yingji's attention was quickly attracted by several pieces of talisman paper on the desk.

She had seen the talismans when she first came in, but had never taken a closer look. After waiting for Ling Jiayan for a long time, she finally stood up and walked towards the desk to look at the talismans.

Not knowing what the talisman was, Ying Ji was afraid of danger and did not dare to touch it, but just looked at it carefully.

She quickly saw the subtlety of the runes.

"Can you understand?" The voice behind her suddenly brought Yingji back to her senses. She turned around warily and looked at Venerable Fu Feng.

Venerable Fu Feng had an elegant smile on his face and asked gently, "Can you tell what kind of talisman this is?"

Yingji thought for a moment before speaking: "I've never seen it before, but it should be a talisman for escaping."

Venerable Fu Feng nodded and asked curiously, "You haven't seen it before, but you can tell what its effect is? How do you tell?"

Ying Ji just smiled and said nothing. Her natural alertness made her feel that there was no need to explain to Venerable Fu Feng.

Venerable Fu Feng sensed Ying Ji's wariness. He chuckled twice and said, "This talisman is called... I just wrote it casually and haven't given it a name yet. It is indeed for escaping. Burning the talisman can send a person to the place where they were an hour ago."

There actually is such a talisman? Yingji was amazed. She hoped that one day she could also write such a talisman.

"Do you like it?" Venerable Fu Feng looked at Ying Ji's expression, "If you like it, I'll give it to you."

Ying Ji looked at Venerable Fu Feng in surprise. She did not accept the gift immediately, but the vigilance in her eyes became even stronger.

Venerable Fu Feng found Ying Ji's vigilance very interesting. He smiled and said, "You are a bold child who always does things that are risking your life. You must have a way to escape."

Venerable Fu Feng patiently and patiently persuaded him: "I can give you more talismans and even teach you how to write powerful talismans."

"Why?" Ying Ji looked at Master Fu Feng suspiciously. "Could it be that you're short of disciples?"

"That's right." Venerable Fu Feng stopped laughing and looked more serious. "I've seen you use talismans. Although you don't possess spiritual power, you do have some talent in the art of talismans. Over the past thousand years, I've taken in so many disciples, but I've never taken in an ordinary person without spiritual power. After meeting you, I suddenly wanted to test how far I could teach an ordinary person."

Ying Ji still regarded him suspiciously. She was calculating the pros and cons of Venerable Fu Feng's actions, and the benefits this would bring to Venerable Fu Feng. If the benefits were not enough, then there was something fishy going on and she didn't need to believe it.

Venerable Fu Feng, who was over a thousand years old, looked at Ying Ji, who was less than twenty years old, and felt that he was only looking at a child. He allowed Ying Ji to look at him and let her make her own plans.

He shook his head and said with a smile: "Little girl, what's the matter? Do I need to give you ten days or half a month to consider? There are countless people who want to become my disciples. I am in a good mood to accept a disciple today, but I may not be in the mood tomorrow."

Yingji suddenly knelt down and said, "Master, please accept my respects. Once a teacher, always a father. In the future, I will respect you and study hard, and live up to your kindness in nurturing me and giving me a new life!"

Yingji finished speaking in one breath without pausing for a moment.

Fu Feng laughed heartily at her sudden change of attitude, not caring how sincere her words were. He smiled and said, "Get up."

He pointed at the talisman on the table and asked, "Can you tell me how to identify it now?"

Ying Ji stood up and pointed, "These two strokes are somewhat similar to the Water Escape Talisman, and this one is the same as the one in the Nine Distance Talisman."

Venerable Fu Feng said nothing. He might praise a stranger, but he always held his disciples to high standards. He removed the talisman, revealing the one underneath, and asked, "Guess which one this is."

Yingji looked carefully.

Ling Jiayan hurried over and saw Ying Ji standing with Venerable Fu Feng. He first respectfully called out "Master" and then said to Ying Ji, "I'm very sorry, but my father suddenly summoned me for an urgent matter, and I'm late."

Yingji shook her head gently: "It's okay, I didn't wait too long."

Ling Jiayan smiled at Ying Ji. He turned to look at Venerable Fu Feng and asked, "Master, why are you here? Is there something you want to talk to me about?"

"I'm not looking for you." Venerable Fu Feng pointed at Ying Ji and said with a smile, "From now on, you should change your tone and call her Junior Sister."

Ling Jiayan was stunned for a moment, then came to his senses. He immediately smiled, bowed solemnly to Ying Ji, and seriously changed his tone: "Junior Sister."

"Senior Brother." Yingji curled her lips and changed her tone.

Ling Jiayan's overly serious attitude actually made Ying Ji feel a little uncomfortable. She was used to being alone and wasn't used to forming new relationships. She became his disciple because, after all the calculations, she felt she wouldn't suffer any loss, and it would naturally be better if she could learn something. As for the flattery she offered to Venerable Fu Feng, it wasn't entirely sincere.

Venerable Fu Feng said, "Jia Yan, you will teach Ying Ji the basics of the art of talismans."

Those things were so basic and simple that Venerable Fu Feng had taught his disciples so many times many years ago that he was tired of them. He often skipped over the most basic things.

Later, the disciples he took in all had some basic skills, and those most fundamental things didn't require him to explain in detail. But Ying Ji was a little different. After a few simple exchanges, Venerable Fu Feng could see that Ying Ji's learning of talismans was not guided by anyone, nor had she studied systematically, but was just learning blindly on her own.

"Yes." Ling Jiayan agreed immediately, "I will definitely teach you well."

Venerable Fu Feng nodded. He had something else to do, so he didn't stay long and quickly left the flower hall.

Ling Jiayan hosted a banquet for Yingji in the flower hall and, as previously agreed, ordered wine to be served. Ling Jiayan was a thoughtful man, and he had the palace servants serve over ten different kinds of wine, covering a wide range of flavors, including fruit wine, a sweet, non-alcoholic drink.

Yingji casually picked up a jar and filled a glass with wine. She raised her glass and said, "To my senior brother."

Ling Jiayan wanted to remind Yingji that the liquor was strong, but swallowed it back. He raised his glass and clinked it with Yingji's. He watched her down the entire glass. He smiled, thinking she was a good drinker and that he had been worrying too much. He also tilted his head back and drank the entire glass.

After the meal, Ling Jiayan gave Yingji a thumbs up for her drinking ability.

A palace servant came in from outside and asked Ling Jiayan if his afternoon schedule was cancelled. Ling Jiayan waved his hand and said, "No, it's as planned."

Ying Ji immediately smiled and said, "Thank you for your hospitality, Senior Brother. Since you have something else to do this afternoon, I won't bother you any longer."

Ying Ji stood up, but before she took a step, she smiled at Ling Jiayan and said, "Brother, when you're done with your work, don't forget to teach me. As long as you have time, I'll be there whenever you call."

Ling Jiayan thought for a moment and said, "My original plan for this afternoon was to go monster hunting. Why don't you come with me? While we're at it, I can also give you some basic knowledge on the introductory art of talismans."

Yingji thought it would be great to be able to learn by doing, so she immediately agreed.

Ling Jiayan looked at Yingji's bright and clear eyes, and couldn't help but sigh in his heart that his alcohol tolerance was indeed not as good as hers.

He quietly performed a magic trick to disperse the alcohol in his body, and his mind became clear.

"Let's go." Ling Jiayan stood up with a smile.

·

Ling Jiayan was a very good lecturer. Yingji followed him, listening to him explain the boring introductory knowledge. Yingji had read about this in books before and generally understood it. However, Ling Jiayan would occasionally explain it from a different perspective, and Yingji realized that there was so much more behind these simple basic knowledge.

She listened carefully and took notes.

"It's right in front." The guard pointed.

Ling Jiayan paused his explanation to Ying Ji and said, "I'll tell you more after we catch this monster. Follow me and don't stray too far."

Not far away, Kong Fan, who had just arrived at the hiding place of the dead demon, looked up in surprise, his sight falling on Ying Ji's figure from afar.

He thought that sensing Yingji was an illusion. But it turned out to be real.
