Chapter 23: Competitiveness
Jiang Zhao felt her heartbeat quicken. She said, "Let's go to KFC. We can't let those two freeloaders get away with it."
Jiang Zhao turned and shouted to Lin Chongyang and Chen Huaiyu, "Hey, you two, would you like to eat at KFC?"
Lin Chongyang and Chen Huaiyu could certainly do that. For them, the key to freeloading was whose food they were getting, not what they were eating. They both said in unison, "Eat."
Jiang Zhao felt that his question was unnecessary. Judging from their expressions, they would agree even if they had to eat in the cafeteria.
It was just after four in the afternoon and there were very few people in the KFC restaurant.
Jiang Zhao ordered a single meal and an ice cream, found a table to sit down, and turned to watch Lin Chongyang coming over with a pyramid of chicken rolls.
Why can high school boys eat so much?
As soon as he sat down, Lin Chongyang said to Chen Huaiyu, "Show your father the report card."
"Get out." Chen Huaiyu cursed.
Lin Chongyang immediately realized that Chen Huaiyu’s score was definitely not as high as his.
Lin Chongyang didn't really care about the overall ranking, but he wouldn't miss the opportunity to mock: "You useless guy who can't even pass the Chinese language test like your dad?"
"I can't help it." Chen Huaiyu said in a stern tone, "There are no difficulties in life that I can't understand."
The theme of the Chinese composition material is growing up in difficult circumstances. Lin Chongyang had never experienced difficult circumstances, but he had a good memory and could remember everything he saw, so he directly copied an article from "Letter to Ren An" into the composition.
"King Wen was imprisoned and wrote the Book of Changes; Confucius was in distress and wrote the Spring and Autumn Annals; Qu Yuan was exiled and wrote the Li Sao; Zuo Qiuming was blind and wrote the Guoyu; Sun Tzu was crippled and wrote the Art of War."
After writing it in a very eloquent way, Sima Qian was castrated again and successfully scored 125 points in Chinese. It was not high in their class, but at least it did not drag down the class.
Lin Chongyang taunted: "Losing to your father so many times isn't considered a hardship?"
Luo Yan said coldly: "Both of them are weak, what are we competing for?"
Lin Chongyang seemed to be stung. He covered his chest in a pretentious manner and said to Jiang Zhao, "Class representative! Don't you care?"
Jiang Zhao sighed, "I think so too."
"My heart is broken." Chen Huaiyu sighed.
Lin Chongyang echoed: "My heart is broken, and only Haidilao can heal it."
Jiang Zhao ignored him and asked Luo Yan, "Will you come to school to do your homework tomorrow?"
Lin Chongyang unwrapped the chicken roll and said, "Come on, come on. I'll come to the classroom to find you after class."
Chen Huaiyu looked up when he heard this: "Aren't you two going to the competition class?"
Luo Yan: "No."
Jiang Zhao: "It's too simple."
Chen Huaiyu stared at Jiang Zhao for a long time: "Class representative, where did you go to junior high school?"
Jiang Zhao was puzzled: "Mingyuan, Class D7."
Lin Chongyang nudged Chen Huaiyu with his elbow: "Your father has asked this question before, don't follow your father's example."
Chen Huaiyu slapped Lin Chongyang's arm away and said to Jiang Zhao, "I thought I hadn't seen you in the competition before."
Luo Yan raised his eyes: "She suddenly realized."
Chen Huaiyu: “?”
Is this some kind of joke?
After dinner, Luo Yan went to the station to catch a bus, while Lin Chongyang and Chen Huaiyu went back to school.
Lin Chongyang: "Class representative, aren't you going back to the dormitory?"
Jiang Zhao: "My dad bought a house near the school a few days ago."
Lin Chongyang: "Excuse me."
Luo Yan: "It seems you can also lose to me in the college entrance examination."
Jiang Zhao put his hands on his hips and said, "Don't think about it. I will definitely beat you all the time."
Lin Chongyang: "Are you two still betting? I want to eat at Haidilao next time."
Luo Yan raised his eyelids and glanced at him: "Get out of the way."
It was the first time that Jiang Zhao heard Luo Yan curse.
It sounds pretty good.
Lin Chongyang pulled Chen Huaiyu away and asked as they walked, "Can we eat at Haidilao next time after we leave?"
Jiang Zhao was delighted: "Sure!"
She waved to Luo Yan: "I'm going home."
"Okay, see you tomorrow," he said.
"Okay! See you tomorrow."
On the way back to school, Lin Chongyang suddenly sighed: "I feel like Yanshen has talked to me more recently than he has in the three years of junior high school."
Chen Huaiyu rolled his eyes at him.
Lin Chongyang said, "He's never called me a bad food before, let alone told me to get out."
"You're complaining even after getting scolded." Chen Huaiyu was speechless. "Do you know what you look like? Like a bitter woman who can't get the love she wants."
Lin Chongyang burped something that tasted like an Old Beijing Chicken Roll: "Bullshit, you don't understand."
Chen Huaiyu mocked: "You talk as if you have a very good relationship."
Lin Chongyang thought for a moment and said, "It's quite good."
The quality of a relationship is determined by comparison.
Although he and Luo Yan didn't talk much, he was definitely among the best in the entire school.
Luo Yan is really too cold.
When he was in the first grade of junior high school, a girl came to confess her love to him when several classes gathered together for physical education class. The crowds of people gathered around him in three circles.
The girl was very beautiful and confident, and she asked directly if she could have a relationship.
The people around were cheering and whistling.
However, the other protagonist on the scene just watched as if it had nothing to do with him, and said coldly: "No."
The atmosphere suddenly became dull.
The girl was totally surprised by this development and forced a smile before asking him if they could be friends.
Luo Yan still said two words: "No."
He didn't even give the girl time to react, he pushed through the crowd and left.
There was booing all around.
The girl stayed where she was, almost crying.
Lin Chongyang didn't know Luo Yan at that time. He just thought that this girl was too troublesome. She chose a time when there were many people around and called her friends over, but she started crying after being booed a few times.
But he also noticed Luo Yan, a boring guy who had no reaction at all when a beautiful girl confessed to him in public and didn't give her any face at all.
You are really good at pretending.
But after getting to know him, Lin Chongyang realized that he was not pretending, but was really that kind of person.
It was a test in the first year of junior high school. The math paper was extremely difficult and Lin Chongyang couldn't solve the last question.
When the test papers were handed out, he didn't care. Teenagers are at a time when their self-confidence is inflated. He was confident that if he couldn't solve the problem, no one in the same grade could solve it.
But when the list of the top 100 students in the grade was posted, Lin Chongyang saw that the math score following the first one was clearly written as 120 points.
Mathematics is the only one on the entire list with 120 points, six points ahead of the second place.
Luo Yan.
Lin Chongyang remembered that the tough guy in the next class had this name.
Lin Chongyang immediately rushed to the next classroom.
He saw Tiegeda sitting at a table in the back row doing homework at a glance. He rushed in and many people in A2 greeted him, but Luo Yan didn't even raise his head.
Lin Chongyang saw the math test paper on the pile of books with 120 written on it in bright red.
He asked, "How did you solve the last problem?"
Luo Yan just glanced at him and said, "Is it difficult?"
"You're the only one in the whole grade who can write this. None of them can do it."
"They are them."
They are them, and I am me.
Lin Chongyang understood his subtext—what do they have to do with me?
Lin Chongyang knew that he was also placed in the category of "them".
Lin Chongyang is very competitive, especially in mathematics.
The young boy's self-confidence grew stronger through repeated perfect scores and comparisons from childhood to adulthood. This was the first time he encountered someone who completely ignored him, so he said sternly: "Just wait!"
The waiting that Lin Chongyang was referring to was naturally not waiting at the school gate, but waiting for the next exam.
Luo Yan didn't even raise his head.
The classmates in Class A2 looked at him from time to time, and Lin Chongyang suddenly understood why the girl was so angry that she cried.
He was ignored.
He returned to the class angrily and vowed to teach Luo Yan a lesson.
Unfortunately, although the harsh words were spoken, there is no sign of fulfilling them.
Later, Lin Chongyang felt relieved and could even comfort himself: It doesn’t matter, the national team for the mathematics competition will select six people.
