Chapter 5 A Gamble

Chapter 5 A Gamble

"You are just attracted by her beauty!"

On the way back to school, Yue Liangjie severely criticized Jiang Zhao.

Jiang Zhao: "Don't slander me, I fell in love at first sight."

Yue Liangjie: "All love at first sight is just lust!"

Jiang Zhao thought what he said made sense: "Well, I was just attracted by her beauty."

Her shameless success shocked Yue Liangjie.

The two said goodbye downstairs of the dormitory building, and Jiang Zhao returned to the dormitory.

The high school dormitory had bunk beds, with four people in one room. However, the key classes had privileges for top students. Although there were two bunk beds in their dormitory, only the lower bunk was used for living, and the upper bunk was used for luggage by default.

The other roommate was not at home, and the words "Jiang Shengnan" were posted on the cabinet next to him.

Jiang Zhao had a deep impression of Jiang Shengnan.

Jiang Shengnan is very hardworking, the kind that is famous throughout the school for her hard work.

She has short hair like boys. She goes to the classroom early every day and returns to the dormitory when the lights are almost turned off.

Whether she was eating or asking questions, she would run there.

I'm not in the dormitory now, probably studying in the classroom.

Jiang Zhao sat on the bed and opened his cell phone out of boredom, then he remembered that Luo Yan didn't have his cell phone number yet.

She opened the address book and Luo Yan's phone number was at the top.

She held the phone and pressed the dial button reverently.

————

The Provincial University of Science and Technology is only six stops away from the high school of Mingyuan No. 1 Middle School.

Luo Yan lives in a residential complex near the school, where most of the residents are faculty and staff. Many people greeted him on his way home.

The house was very quiet, Luo Wenchuan and Xu Xin were both at work.

Luo Yan returned to his room, took out the math exercise booklet that had just been distributed, and started writing from the back.

It was past twelve o'clock and still no one was there. It was likely that Luo Wenchuan and Xu Xin would not come back for lunch.

Luo Wenchuan teaches economics at the University of Science and Technology, while Xu Xin works in the district government. Both of them are very busy at work.

Their family is considered a "model family" in the community, and Luo Yan is the child from that other family.

He is good-looking, has good grades, and is polite to his elders. He is the kind of child that parents will definitely like.

Even though in the eyes of his peers he seems cold and difficult to get along with, in the eyes of adults, this is actually a sign of stability and understanding, which are commendable qualities.

Luo Yan attended primary school at the primary school affiliated to the University of Science and Technology, but when he reached junior high school, he insisted on going to Mingyuan No. 1 Middle School.

Mingyuan’s admission rate to Tsinghua University and Peking University is higher than that of the Affiliated High School of Science and Technology, so Xu Xin and Luo Wenchuan also agreed.

The phone rang.

He pressed the answer button: "Hello."

"My deskmate, I'm Jiang Zhao."

"Yeah, I know."

"Um, this is my cell phone number, remember to save it."

"Okay." Luo Yan asked, "Are you home yet?"

"Ah?" Jiang Zhao finally realized that she had followed Luo Yan out of school in a daze today. "I live on campus and forgot about it today."

The girl spoke in a hurry, and Luo Yan could tell that she was even a little nervous.

Neither of them spoke, and Luo Yan could even hear the soft breathing coming from the other end of the phone.

Jiang Zhao spoke first: "That's all right, I'm hanging up now. Bye."

"Okay, see you tomorrow." Luo Yan paused: "Deskmate."

Jiang Zhaoxian hung up the phone.

She wasn't as nervous as she is now when she first applied to the school for an interview.

Jiang Zhao lay back on the bed, staring at the pattern on the upper wooden board for a long time.

"Jiang Zhao." She murmured to herself, "You are really finished."

————

When I woke up the next morning, I still saw the wooden board on the upper bunk.

Not a dream.

Jiang Zhao finally plucked up the courage to pinch his palm.

pain.

She threw back the covers and jumped up.

Jiang Shengnan was still not in the dormitory.

If Jiang Zhao hadn't seen her quilt being spread out on the bed instead of rolled up, he would have thought that she hadn't come back at all yesterday.

There are four classes in the morning, one morning reading period, and a relatively long break in between.

During the first-year high school morning reading session, the subjects could only alternate between Chinese and English. Wang Guoxiong rushed to announce the bad news before the morning reading teacher arrived: "The entrance exam is on Friday."

We didn't intend to let everyone have an easy time on the first weekend, and the class was filled with wailing.

Of course, there was some exaggeration in it, trying to hint to the head teacher to make the questions simpler.

However, Wang Guoxiong had no intention of pitying the flowers of the motherland. He just wanted to make the storm come even more violently: "I made the math test, so you guys do it well!"

After announcing the bad news, Wang Guoxiong left without looking back.

If you were born in ancient times and become a killer, you would definitely not get hurt by a single leaf, would be so cool and unrestrained that you would never look back after killing someone.

Jiang Zhao remembered that in the entrance test for her first year of high school, she ranked 440th in the grade and scored 47 points in English.

The full score is one hundred and fifty.

The saddest thing was that she had crossed out a line on her English test card during the exam, and only realized it when the bell rang, leaving her with no time to correct it. She was upset about it for a long time, but when the teacher reviewed the test, she found that her correct score was higher than hers.

That feeling is like finding a top-grade spiritual root in the world of cultivating immortals, and arriving at a large sect full of confidence and ready to make a big splash, only to discover that the top-grade water spiritual root is only good for flushing toilets in the sect.

The classmates were still complaining to each other. Perhaps Jiang Zhao was too calm, so Luo Yan asked, "Aren't you nervous?"

"fine."

When I was in school, I would always feel like the sky was falling if I didn’t do well on an exam, didn’t hand in homework, or had my parents called to the school.

When I grew up, I realized that not doing well in the exam was not a big deal. With her English score of 47, she had lived abroad for ten years.

After the second class, the freshmen gathered in the playground.

The dean of studies held a mobilization meeting there.

From Mingyuan having only two classes and being unable to recruit students 20 years ago to now having many honors in the main campus, he finally returned to reality and talked about the importance of knowledge and the preciousness of high school life, encouraging everyone to have a regret-free high school experience.

The Mediterranean's forehead is shiny and reflects the sun's rays.

In the warm early autumn sunshine, everyone was drowsy listening to the music.

After Lao Hu finished his speech, outstanding student representatives spoke.

Luo Yan walked up to the stage, stood in front of the microphone, and said, "Hello, teachers and classmates. I am Luo Yan from Class 1, Grade 1, 2013."

The manuscript was written by the school teacher a long time ago. It simply reviews the junior high school life and encourages students to strive for the future.

But Luo Yan's voice was really nice, and compared to Lao Hu, he still attracted a lot of attention.

Jiang Zhao listened very carefully.

He said: "A person's life is not lived in a few years or months, but in many moments. I hope that in the next three years, everyone can create moments in Mingyuan that are worth remembering for a lifetime."

Jiang Zhao looked at the boy in the blue and white school uniform standing on the stage, looked at Mingyuan's red walls and green trees, sunny sky and white clouds, and suddenly felt like crying.

You are the one who attracts everyone's attention on the stage.

I am one of the thousands of perspectives below.

But many of the moments I can recall in the future will have you involved.

Luo Yan walked off the stage.

He returned from the edge of the playground to the end of the class line. As soon as he came back, he saw Jiang Zhao's eyes were red.

"What's wrong with you?" Luo Yan asked.

Jiang Zhao rubbed his eyes: "There's sand in my eyes."

The girl blinked her eyes and said, "Classmate, do you want to make a bet?"

"What's the bet?"

"How about betting on the test results the day after tomorrow?"
