Bird compromise
After that, Jiang Yilin waited for several days but Jin Xilu did not appear.
Another day passed, and the old lady responsible for cleaning the yard, seeing Jiang Yilin coming to this wall four or five times a day, joked, "What are you looking at? You're always staring at this wall, can you even see a flower?"
Jiang Yilin's ears flushed an unnatural red, and after a long while she said, "No, it's just that a bird accidentally flew in."
"What kind of bird is so rare that you come here to guard it every day!"
The cleaning lady put down her broom, turned around with Jiang Yilin, and asked in confusion, "What birds are here?"
Jiang Yilin did not refute.
Seeing Jiang Yilin's absent-minded appearance, the old lady kindly said, "Next time you see him, I'll ask your Uncle Run to catch him for you and put him in a cage, so you can watch him every day."
"It's nothing, if you don't want to come, you don't have to." Although Jiang Yilin said this, her feet seemed to be glued to the ground. She sat in the corner by the gardenia tree all morning, occasionally looking up.
Whether he was genuinely looking at the sky or counting the clouds, even the cleaning lady was speechless. What was he doing? Should she tell the head of the household?
Their young master seems to have gone senile. What kind of bird is this that has such a powerful attraction?
Fortunately, not long after, the cleaning lady saw Aunt Lian come out and was finally relieved.
He Min's health has been poor since giving birth to Jiang Yilin. Jiang Lianyin usually doesn't allow He Min to get too close to Jiang Yilin, although she claims to the outside world that her wife and child are in poor health and that staying together for too long would only cause them to suffer from each other's illnesses.
Others may not know, but Aunt Lian was Jiang Yilin's grandmother who had been taking care of her since she was a child. She knew that Jiang Yilin still longed for maternal love, but unfortunately, the heirs of the Jiang family were all a bit abnormal.
"Sigh, it's always a process like this." Aunt Lian looked at Jiang Yilin's appearance and seemed to see the Jiang family head as a child. Is this curse really impossible to break?
As Aunt Lian approached Jiang Yilin, she called him over to eat some freshly steamed glutinous rice cakes. The glutinous rice cakes, filled with shredded radish and filled with vermicelli, were sweet to the taste.
"Why are you still sitting there? Yilin, come and try this year's glutinous rice, it's so delicious, sweet and soft, you can't taste any bitterness at all." Grandma squatted down and reached out to pull him up.
Jiang Yilin's legs went numb from squatting, and after swaying her body, she still couldn't stand up. She said dejectedly, "When will I be able to go out like a normal person?"
Aunt Lian hesitated, unable to pull Jiang Yilin up, and stared at the whorl of hair on his head with a bitter and helpless expression.
She knew that her mother had fallen seriously ill again recently. He Min lay in bed like a broken lotus flower. Her face, which should have been rosy and beautiful, was becoming increasingly pale, like translucent rice paper even when standing in the sunlight.
He Min's spirits had been crushed by Jiang Lianyin's ruthless methods.
The only time He Min gets a little angry is when she's lying in bed and still throws things at the head of the family; the arguments have gotten even more intense lately.
Jiang Lianyin left early and returned late every day, trying to avoid He Min and also to oppose her. He was furious that He Min would start a hunger strike over such a trivial matter, that everyone else could share her sincere feelings, but she alone hated him.
Let her hate him then, let her hate him to the end, so that he can completely possess her mind and spirit. Even if it's hatred or evil, Jiang Lianyin doesn't care.
This time, it was because He Min wanted to send Jiang Yilin to school, but Jiang Lianyin disagreed, and the two had a big argument.
Last night, Aunt Lian heard angry curses and mournful sobs coming from the cellar again.
Jiang Lianyin had already confiscated all the sharp objects in the room, and He Min used her worn-down fingernails to dig deep into his throat, forcing him to agree.
But Jiang Lianyin refused to budge. His strong arms wrapped around He Min's waist, which seemed like it could be broken with a single twist. His gaze measured her from her forehead to her chin, his eyes shifting from burning passion to probing and teasing.
"He Min, what do you think you have left to threaten me?" Jiang Lianyin could lift He Min's chin with just her index finger, forcing her to only see herself.
“Yilin is a good boy. You can’t imprison me for the rest of my life and then imprison him for the rest of his life.” He Min shook off his hand that was touching her, but Jiang Lianyin stubbornly pulled her back.
When facing Jiang Lianyin, He Min never called Jiang Yilin by her full name. She always called her Yilin softly, with a sorrowful expression and a reluctance to show too much concern.
She didn't want to burden his clean name with the heavy and sinful character "Jiang".
Yilin was the baby she gave birth to after ten months of pregnancy. He was only a tiny baby at birth, wrapped in a red swaddle and nestled against her chest. He didn't cry or fuss, his face was rosy, his fingers were clenched into small fists, and his big black eyes were pure and innocent. He was a treasure that God had given her.
Holding him, He Min felt the pain in her chest subside, and the warm sunlight pierced through the thick, gloomy clouds, shining down on her.
For him, He Min was willing to accompany Jiang Lianyin to complete this tragic love story, a romance that began at first sight and was both romantic and grand.
But now, He Min's tears flowed automatically whenever she saw Jiang Lianyin, as if by conditioned reflex. Warm tears slowly flowed down her face, leaving streaks on her neck, until they soaked into her clothes, and her whole body began to feel cold and tremble.
Night finally came, her eyelids grew heavier and heavier, her vision blurred and the world was no longer clear, but she still could not ignore the man beside her.
She wasn't submitting to Jiang Lianyin; she was simply too weak.
The woman who used to be able to climb trees and mountains and jump into the water to catch fish can now not even hold a pen steadily.
"Don't force me. You know it's just a matter of time." He Min didn't finish her sentence.
I'm about to die; it's only a matter of time.
But it was precisely this unfinished sentence that most enraged Jiang Lianyin.
He gripped He Min's neck, the veins on the back of his hand bulging, but he dared not loosen his grip. He laughed as if that would make He Min take back her words: "You're scaring me again. You're not asleep yet, and you're already talking nonsense."
"If that day ever comes, I think Yilin will willingly go to be with you, after all, you love him so much, and he's a fool who only revolves around you..."
"You dare! Jiang Lianyin, get out..." He Min suddenly opened her eyes, staring incredulously at the heartless demon in front of her. She spoke too hastily, and now a sharp pain shot through her chest, and she was panting heavily.
He Min's tears had dried up, and with each rise and fall of her breath, she continued to tell him to get out.
"Get out, get out."
Jiang Lianyin stared at her pulse and breath, then rubbed his wrist, his knuckles cracking. After gazing at her for a long time, he bent down and kissed the tear stains on He Min's face.
"Minmin, I won't compromise." Jiang Lianyin showed her first genuinely relaxed smile of the night.
