Chapter 103 Encountering a Bear

Chapter 103 Encountering a Bear

The scream stunned everyone.

The scream was followed by a muffled roar.

"What is that sound?" Feng Caixing asked nervously.

Qiu Heng had already realized what was happening.

It's a bear!

"Caixing, take good care of the county princess and Sister Caiyue." After saying this, Qiuheng ran towards the direction of the voice.

That was the direction Princess Rongning had gone; the screaming male voice must have been her guard.

Princess Rongning was sent to marry the King of Xijiang as a princess. After Xijiang broke the agreement, she angrily assassinated him and died tragically, an act worthy of admiration. Now that she was in danger, she could not stand idly by.

"Aheng, where are you going?"

Feng Caixing was about to give chase, but Feng Caiyue stopped her: "Don't cause trouble. Although we've never heard that roar before and don't know what kind of beast it is, it must be a ferocious beast."

“But Ah Heng is not as good as me. At least I know some martial arts.” Feng Caixing was about to cry.

Princess Jiayi, however, remained calm and instructed the guards accompanying her: "Go quickly and check on Ah Heng!"

The forest was sparse and gentle, and any unruly wild animals had been driven away beforehand to ensure the noble ladies could enjoy themselves. Therefore, the ladies almost always entered in groups, without any maids. Like Princess Rongning, Princess Jiayi only brought two guards.

The two guards hesitated.

The Lady of Jiayi County shouted sternly, "What are you all standing there for? Go!"

"Yes." The two guards followed Qiu Heng.

When Qiu Heng arrived, the scene she saw was horrifying.

One of Princess Rongning's guards lay on the ground, his life hanging in the balance, while another guard stood in front of Princess Rongning, facing a black bear that was clearly enraged and was in imminent danger.

Qiu Heng picked up a fallen wild fruit and threw it at the black bear.

The fruit was only the size of a fist; if it had hit the black bear, it would have caused no pain or itch. But it just so happened to hit the black bear right on the nose.

The black bear charged angrily at Qiu Heng.

Qiu Heng was prepared and took off running.

The guard protecting Princess Rongning could no longer hold on and collapsed to the ground, clutching his wound and gasping for breath in pain.

Princess Rongning's face was paler than snow. She grabbed the bow and arrow that had fallen to the ground in the chaos, steeled her heart, and took off to chase after them.

Qiu Heng did this to save her; she couldn't just abandon her!

But after taking only one step, Princess Rongning's legs gave way and she fell to the ground.

The shadow of recent death was so deep that it instilled an insurmountable fear in my body.

Princess Rongning punched herself hard.

Fortunately, at that moment, two of the Jiayi County Princess's guards arrived.

"Princess, are you alright?"

"I'm fine. An injured bear suddenly rushed over, but Miss Qiu lured it away. You all need to hurry and save the person!"

The two guards followed the direction Princess Rongning pointed.

Qiu Heng ran ahead, and the black bear chased after her.

The seemingly clumsy bear was actually incredibly fast; an ordinary person would have been caught long ago. Qiu Heng, having learned martial arts from Uncle Fu, was most skilled in light-body techniques. With no one else around, she increased her speed, leading the black bear through the forest. When she estimated the time was right, she leaped up into a tree.

The enraged black bear followed, climbed a short distance, and then silently slid back down.

The tree is too thin to support the weight.

The black bear raised its head and roared.

Qiu Heng calmly looked down at the angry black bear, and saw the black bear forcefully ram into the tree trunk.

Knowing that bears can climb trees, Qiuheng deliberately chose this thin tree, which immediately swayed and almost fell over after being bumped by the black bear.

After assessing the situation, Qiu Heng figured the tree could hold up for a while longer. She gripped a branch and sat firmly, waiting for the tree to break so she could jump to a nearby tree.

The black bear got even angrier, roaring and ramming into the tree.

Qiu Heng heard a clicking sound.

It looks like it's going to break.

"Here!" An urgent shout rang out, and two of Princess Jiayi's guards arrived.

Seeing that the tree where Qiu Heng was perched was gradually leaning, one of the guards, in a moment of panic, threw his knife at the black bear.

Sensing danger, the black bear turned and headed straight for the guard.

"Split up and hold this black bear back!" the guard shouted to his companion as he ran.

His companion understood, and seeing that the guard was about to be caught by the black bear, he stepped forward and struck the bear before running away.

Seeing that the two were cooperating well and there was no immediate danger, Qiu Heng felt relieved.

Just then, the tree that had been rammed several times by the black bear finally fell.

As the two guards lured the black bear away, Qiu Heng gathered her strength and prepared to leap to another tree, but as she jumped away from the fallen tree, she caught a glimpse of a young man in a smart outfit rushing towards her.

Xue Han!

Without even seeing the face clearly, Qiu Heng immediately recognized who it was.

Damn it, Xue Han came to save her again!

Qiu Heng immediately relaxed her body and let herself fall. She only had time to curse in her heart before she landed steadily in Xue Han's arms.

Under the immense impact, Xue Han staggered back several steps while holding Qiu Heng before regaining his balance.

"Are you alright?" As the world shifted, the boy's voice, filled with rapid breathing, reached my ears.

The helplessness and frustration in Qiu Heng's heart vanished instantly.

Given Xue Han's skill level, the fact that his breathing was so erratic shows how he must have exerted all his strength to run here.

He went to such lengths to save her that she could only forgive him for being a nemesis to her.

Qiu Heng sighed inwardly, as if resigned to her fate, and replied to Xue Han, "It's nothing."

"That's good, that's good." Xue Han said twice, her heart still pounding.

It wasn't the close contact that made me feel uneasy, but rather the lingering fear.

To appease his adoptive father, he went hunting, only to find chaos upon arrival. It was reported that the black bears that were part of the hunt had broken free and run into another forest.

That mountain forest was reserved for the pleasures of noble ladies.

After rushing over with the others who participated in the hunt, they heard that Miss Qiu Liu had lured the black bear away in order to save Princess Rongning.

What was originally just a worry that someone had gotten into trouble instantly transformed into a swung iron hammer, striking his heart heavily.

The blow shattered his spirit, leaving him only able to run.

Faster, faster.

This time he was grown up and capable of saving her. If he missed this opportunity again, he could never forgive himself!

Thank goodness, she's alright.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Xue Han unconsciously hugged the girl in his arms even tighter.

Just as Qiu Heng was about to remind Xue Han to put her down, she realized that he was holding her even tighter.

"Xue—" Qiu Heng had only managed to utter one word when she noticed that the boy holding her had reddened his eyes, and the words she was about to say suddenly caught in her throat.

Xue Han...cried?

why is that?

Qiu Heng looked up at the boy whose eyes were filled with tears, and forgot what she was going to say.

A surprised voice suddenly rang out: "Aheng is there!"

Xue Han snapped back to his senses and quickly put the person down. Soon, a fragrant breeze swept by, and several young girls surrounded Qiu Heng, pushing him aside.

"Aheng, are you alright?" Feng Caixing held Qiuheng's hand and looked her up and down.

Princess Jiayi and Feng Caiyue also had tear stains on their faces.

"I'm fine." Qiu Heng looked at the silent boy not far away. "I climbed up a tree in my haste, and the black bear rammed into it, knocking it down. Luckily, Lord Xue arrived in time and caught me."

"Arriving just in time"—Qiu Heng's words echoed in Xue Han's mind, gradually easing his fear.
