Mo Wenying's mother-in-law stared at Su Nanxi for a while, then suddenly asked a question.
The tone of his voice sounded disdainful, and his eyes looked down on people.
Su Nanxi could tell at a glance that this old woman was definitely not a kind person. Look at those sharp eyes, staring at people up and down so brazenly. Is that polite?
She also disliked the old woman very much.
What's wrong with me?! Is it because I can't speak that I'm bothering you? Or did I eat your rice?
Mind your own business, do you think you're some kind of Pacific Ocean policeman?
However, Su Nanxi didn't show it, wanting to give Mo Wenying some face so as not to make things difficult for her.
After hearing her mother-in-law's words, Mo Wenying forced a smile and tried to explain, but her mother-in-law didn't take the bait. Instead, she looked down on Mo Wenying as well.
Su Nanxi didn't want to stay, so she gestured and waved before leaving.
That's someone else's family matter; she couldn't be bothered with it.
I wandered around again and bought quite a few things.
She browsed around the bookstore but came out without buying anything. There was no way around it; the things inside were ridiculously expensive. If she needed paper, ink, brushes, or inkstones, she might as well just take them out of her spatial storage.
After going out, I bought some more candy, planning to take some out of my spatial storage later and mix them together. I figured no one would notice anything amiss.
Just as she was about to head back, the old man selling candied hawthorns saw her and quickly ran over. Last time she bought so many at once, she was a big customer, so he had to seize the opportunity!
Suddenly, a target with strings of candied hawthorns stuck in it appeared in front of Su Nanxi's eyes. The target was moved aside, and she saw an old man. Only then did she understand what was going on.
What could be going on?
It's because she was too extravagant last time, so they've come after her again.
The old man wasn't wrong. When it comes to business, you're bound to seize any opportunity you see, since face isn't as important as money.
Since it's already been delivered to us, and seeing the old man's tattered clothes, it must be tough for him, so let's help him out.
The old man was delighted and confirmed with Su Nanxi, "Miss, you want seven skewers, right?"
Su Nanxi nodded, took out copper coins from the cloth bag hanging diagonally on his body, and handed over the money with one hand while taking a large handful of candied hawthorns with the other.
Worried about getting the clothes dirty, or accidentally soiling other people's clothes, Su Nanxi asked the old man for a piece of oil paper, wrapped it up simply, and tied it up.
She specially took out a skewer, thinking that she could eat it while walking later. Hmm, that would definitely feel great!
The old man thanked Su Nanxi and left with the target, continuing to hawk his wares and look for the next buyer.
"Mom! I want to eat this! No! I want this!"
"This isn't good. Let's go look for other places; there are some better ones!"
"No! This is delicious!"
The old man soon encountered a potential customer. Most parents would give in when their child threw a tantrum. But why did these voices sound so familiar?
Su Nanxi took a bite of fruit, chewed it, and looked up. Oh dear, the old man had encountered Mo Wenying and her son, and, well, that old woman too.
Su Nanxi didn't go forward this time. She knew she wasn't likable and couldn't communicate with people, so she simply stood aside and watched.
Chen Baoxun refused to leave, insisting on going to that candied hawthorn, but Mo Wenying wouldn't buy it for him. She tried to coax and trick him, but couldn't persuade her son.
Su Nanxi could see clearly that Mo Wenying probably didn't have any money at all. She didn't have any money in her hands, and she couldn't even make decisions for herself. When her mother-in-law said not to buy it, she could only keep coaxing her son.
The old man could tell that the products probably wouldn't sell, so he decided to leave.
Chen Baoxun burst into loud sobs, startling the old man, who was now unsure whether to stay or leave.
Mo Wenying's mother-in-law, Chen Liushi, also lost her patience and wanted to grab the child and leave, but she caught a glimpse of Su Nanxi out of the corner of her eye.
When he saw Su Nanxi leisurely eating a candied hawthorn in one hand and a large bundle of candied hawthorns in the other, he was very unhappy. He immediately put on airs, put on a long face, and started lecturing Su Nanxi.
"How can you be like this? Didn't your family tell you to lend a hand to someone in trouble? How can you eat by yourself while the child cries like this? You're carrying so much, don't you know to take some to comfort the child? Didn't your mother-in-law teach you these things?"
Su Nanxi paused for a moment, puffed out her cheeks, and stuffed a hawthorn into her mouth. It was sour, and she couldn't help but frown slightly.
Mo Wenying turned her head and saw Su Nanxi, but she didn't dare to go up to Su Nanxi.
She already knew that this mute woman held a certain status in the family, and not a low one at that, as evidenced by her ability to freely manage money. She was not someone she could bully at will.
Now that I see her buying so many candied hawthorns, I know even more that this mute woman has money!
Mo Wenying could also tell that her third sister-in-law was not good-looking, but she was also a woman with a temper and was not the kind of person who would meekly accept whatever came her way.
She quickly pulled at Chen Liushi, but Chen Liushi didn't stop, perhaps because she looked down on Su Nanxi from the bottom of her heart, or for other reasons.
Chen Liushi walked over and said to Su Nanxi in a condescending manner, "Our Xun'er wants to eat candied hawthorns. You can give him the few skewers you have. It's what you, as his aunt, should do."
Su Nanxi raised an eyebrow. Putting aside whether she should give it to her or not, she didn't want to talk to her just because of her attitude.
If you look down on her, don't ask her. If you're so capable, buy it yourself!
You need to have the right attitude when asking for a favor.
If you find her ugly and mute, and you feel disgusted by her from the bottom of your heart, then stay away from her!
Su Nanxi continued eating her candied hawthorn, not even glancing at her again.
The old man's gaze lingered between Chen Liushi and Su Nan before he finally decided to leave, quietly taking the target with him.
Chen Baoxun looked at his grandmother and didn't notice anything else.
She turned around and found the candied hawthorn vendor gone, and immediately started crying.
Mo Wenying squatted down to coax him, but she couldn't.
Su Nanxi observed that this was probably the only boy in the family. Judging from his determination, it wasn't something he had developed overnight. None of the Mo family's children had this kind of temperament.
Fortunately, the children in the Mo family don't have that kind of temperament, otherwise she might not have been able to resist disciplining them.
Chen Baoxun clearly needs to be taught a lesson!
Finally, Mo Wenying looked to Su Nanxi for help, hoping that Su Nanxi could give her a candied hawthorn to stop her son from crying.
When Chen Liu saw her beloved grandson crying, she rushed over to comfort him, but it was no use. When she saw Mo Wenying looking at Su Nanxi, she got angry and scolded Su Nanxi.
Su Nanxi's face immediately darkened, and she glanced at Chen Liushi with half-closed eyes.
Seeing this, Mo Wenying's alarm bells went off. She quickly pulled the person back and apologized, "Mute Mother, I'm sorry. My mother-in-law just couldn't bear to see Xun Ge'er sad, so she got angry and spoke a bit harshly. Please don't take it to heart."
Chen Liushi, however, was unmoved. "Why are you apologizing? Shouldn't she have apologized?"
"Mother, please say less."
"Do you think I'm afraid of her?!"
