Su Nanxi helped the man up. There was no other way; they couldn't communicate. She agreed for now, and whether it was worth it or not would be another matter later.
The man happily took the child in his arms. "This is my son, Xiao Han. My name is Xiao Yi. Now that we have acknowledged you as our master, we will never betray you as long as you are our master."
After saying this, he hugged his bewildered son and bowed to Su Nanxi.
Su Nanxi's attempts to refuse were futile, so she accepted their greetings and then wrote the words "mute mother" on the ground with a wooden stick.
Xiao Yi stared at the words on the ground, momentarily stunned, but quickly returned to normal.
Su Nanxi was a little worried. She couldn't even take care of herself, so was it really feasible to take on followers?
She didn't have time to think too much; she needed to find a place for the two of them to rest temporarily. Luckily, she had explored this area before and knew where there were caves where people could stay.
She led the two to a cave, gathered firewood, picked a bunch of wild fruits, and even found some dry grass to use as a mattress. After settling them in, she left them two cups of spiritual spring water before departing.
It was just a trivial matter, and she didn't take it to heart. Now that the two of them were settled, she was sure they would recover quickly, so there was nothing more for her to do.
Down the mountain, the villagers spontaneously followed the Mo family up the mountain to search for the person. They carried sticks, machetes, and other tools early in the morning, walking and shouting as they went, but the only response from the mountain was their own echo.
The Mo family's hearts sank to the bottom of the lake. So much time has passed, is it still there? There are all sorts of snakes, insects, and wild beasts in the mountains, and after another night, there's probably no hope left.
The villagers thought the same thing and stood with the Mo family for a long time. Knowing that the Mo family was upset, no one said anything. Just as everyone was about to give up and go back, the trees below swayed slightly, accompanied by a rustling sound.
The group exchanged glances, a flicker of joy in their hearts. Could it be...?
Mo Jiaxing was the first to shout, "Third Aunt! Is that you, Third Aunt?"
The trees below suddenly stopped moving, then started moving again after a while.
Qin Shi also called out anxiously, "Mute girl, is that you down there?"
No one responded; the grass and trees continued to sway, and judging from the sound, they were getting closer.
The group was unaware of the situation and were a little scared. They had heard that there were snakes in the mountains that were bigger than a person and made a rustling sound when they crawled!
As they got closer, everyone unconsciously took a few steps back, picked up their wooden sticks, and went into defensive stance. If it were a monster, they would just give it a good whack.
Mo Jiaxing firmly believed it was his third aunt, and instead of backing away, he looked forward.
The Mo family did not stop them and followed along.
"Third Aunt!"
Mo Jiaxing was so excited he almost danced for joy. "It's Third Aunt! It really is Third Aunt!"
The little boy's tears streamed down his face instantly, and he ran to pull the people below up.
Upon hearing that it was Su Nanxi, the Mo family rushed over and reached out to pull her away.
Everyone rushed over to see how they could help.
Su Nanxi was finally pulled up. She looked haggard, with many cuts and long wounds on her body.
The Mo family was heartbroken and cried uncontrollably.
Sigh! Even she was deeply moved. But those wounds were fake; she had deliberately faked them. There was no other way; if she fell down without sustaining any injuries, it wouldn't make sense.
Su Nanxi was eventually laid on a makeshift stretcher and carried back home.
Mo Qinghe held the bamboo strips, not moving for a long time, sitting in his wheelchair in a daze for a long time.
No one brings him water or fruit anymore, no one worries that he's hungry, and no one plays with his hands anymore.
He felt that his world had lost its color, and he had returned to the cold past.
Mo Dongcheng was still a child, and he continued to play his games, but he kept his distance from Mo Qinghe, fearing that his third uncle might whip him with a bamboo whip if he was unhappy.
It was noisy and bustling outside. As I got closer, I could hear that the voices sounded very happy, with high-pitched and cheerful tones.
Mo Qinghe seemed to realize something, raised his head, and looked out nervously, just in time to see a group of people carrying something in. As they got closer, it looked like they were carrying people.
Soon someone blocked his way again. He couldn't see clearly, and when he tried to go over to take a look, he couldn't move. He was so anxious that he kept pacing around in circles.
“Mute girl, let us help you into the house first. We’ll boil some water and get you ready in a bit. You should rest and recuperate for the next few days.”
Qin helped Su Nanxi up, and Old Lady Mo echoed her sentiments. Zhao also helped her up, saying, "That's right, you need to rest well. Don't worry about anything else. If anything happens, just have Qinghe call us."
She really is a mute!
Mo Qinghe was stunned for a moment, then was overjoyed beyond words. Seeing Su Nanxi enter the house, he quickly turned his wheelchair and followed her in.
Grandma Mo sincerely thanked the villagers who helped search for her, saying, "My mute mother has just returned, so it's not convenient for us to keep you all here today. We, the Mo family, will thank you properly another day!"
The villagers were sensible; they waved their hands and said no need to thank them, then left.
The Mo family got busy again, and it seemed like everything had returned to normal.
Mo Yunmei didn't go into the mountains with them, and no one cared about her. She ran out to find Chen Qiuxia, who asked her to help with chores. At noon, Chen Qiuxia didn't invite her to stay for lunch. No one in the Mo family cooked, and she searched everywhere but couldn't find anything to eat. She was starving, so she ran out again.
He then approached Chen Qiuxia, saying, "Sister Qiuxia, we have nothing to eat at home, and I'm very hungry. Do you have any porridge? Could you give me some?"
Chen Qiuxia hesitated for a moment, then nudged her younger brother next to her. Her brother immediately jumped up and said, "What? There's still porridge? I'm not full yet! My fifth brother has only eaten a little bit too. It's not enough! It's not enough!"
Chen Qiuxia pretended to be very troubled and said, "Yunmei, look, I... I can't give it to you either. If my parents knew that my younger brother was starving, they would scold me."
Not wanting to put her best friend in a difficult position, Mo Yunmei didn't ask for more porridge and slunk away.
Once she was out of sight, Chen Qiuxia's face immediately fell. "Hmph! This porridge is so thick, not just anyone can eat it! How dare she ask for it! Shameless!"
Mo Yunmei had nowhere to go, so she had to go home. When she got home, she found that everyone in her family had returned and were busy with their own things, ignoring her when they saw her.
She was even angrier, feeling weak from hunger. Her temper flared, and she ran to Old Lady Mo. "Mother! I'm hungry! Why are you only coming back now? I'm starving! Is it worth it for you to do this for an outsider? If he's gone, so be it! You can always marry another one! Why bother? He was only bought for a few coins anyway. If he's gone, you can just buy another one!"
Grandma Mo was busy drying chili peppers when she suddenly heard her daughter say this. She was shocked. This was the daughter she had raised? Why did she seem so unfamiliar!
Seeing the disappointment in her mother's eyes, Mo Yunmei asked defiantly, "Am I wrong? She's just an outsider! Why should we go to such lengths for her?"
"Smack!"
A crisp slap in the face.
Before Old Lady Mo could act, Boss Mo coldly stared at Mo Yunmei as if she were some kind of monster, his eyes burning with rage, but he bit his cheek and endured it.
Qin Shi was clinging tightly to his arm; anyone who didn't know better would think they were showing affection.
"Big brother, you...you hit me?"
