Chapter 665 Queuing for Water

The villagers of Changna Village are busy stockpiling goods. Everyone is worried that they will not have enough to eat when the situation worsens. They are taking advantage of the fact that the situation has not worsened yet and there is still a chance to stockpile. It would be foolish not to do so!

It's getting hotter and hotter now, everyone can feel it. It's very different from previous years. Experienced elderly people are more convinced that disasters will happen. So, whether they have money or not, they're hoarding whatever they can!

The village chief's words must have a reason; he wouldn't make everyone work so hard for no reason. If you still don't believe him now, you really can't blame anyone else!

The hoarding activity in Changna Village was carried out in full swing, which also affected the nearby villagers. Some were wary, some were trusting, and they also got busy.

The villages are all related by marriage, so it's easy for them to find out things, especially important ones, which spread very quickly.

With good intentions, the villagers of Changna Village will also ask their relatives to make preparations. After all, they have given a kind reminder, so if something unexpected happens, they can't be blamed.

In the face of disaster, everyone's first priority is their own family; it's really hard to take care of others!

If anyone is still confused, insists on arguing, and stubbornly refuses to believe, then let them be; life and death are predestined!

The river is getting lower and lower, almost to the bottom, so planting crops is obviously not very realistic. Even if we plant them, there probably won't be enough water to irrigate them until harvest. It would be good enough if we could just take good care of the crops we have now!

This is nothing like before, when the river overflowed, there was no shortage of water, and no worry about irrigation!

The villagers in Changna Village were indeed observing the situation and did not plant any new crops. The ground was hard and dry, and the water dried up quickly after being irrigated. The waterwheels could not pump much water up.

Everyone's scrambling for water to save their crops, and there's not enough to go around!

Early in the morning, people carry wooden buckets to the irrigation canal to wait for water. If you go early, you may not have to queue, but if you are a little late, there may be a long queue!

No cutting in line, first come, first served. If anyone causes trouble, the village chief will send someone to the river to pick them up!

Who would want to go that far? It's so hot! Aren't you tired and hot?

Moreover, it's not so easy to get water from the river, because there might be silt. Getting in is easy, but getting out might require someone to rescue you!

Everyone in the village knows about this, so they patiently wait in line, and leave once they get their turn!

"The drought really is here! The water level has dropped so much; it probably won't be long before the river dries up completely! I just checked, and the water level has dropped even further!"

"Who says otherwise! It's not just the river that's low in water, our wells are low too, haven't you all noticed? I don't know if it's because my house is on higher ground, but we have to dig really deep to get water from our well now! It wasn't like this before, before we could clearly see the water just by looking around!"

"Yes! Mine too! Although it's not as serious as yours, the water is definitely deeper than before! It's obvious the water level has dropped, and it might really dry up soon! What should we do then?"

"Don't panic! It's not just us who's in this situation! I've heard that several nearby villages are in the same boat, even worse off than us. Their harvests are bad, and they have no new crops to sell for money. Plus, for some reason, it's much drier there than here, and they're really short on water right now!"

"Yes! Don't panic! If the weather is like this, no one under the same sky can escape it. It's not just here that's experiencing drought! The village chief said long ago that there might be a drought, so it's not too late to prepare now! There's no need to plant crops, since they probably won't survive anyway. We should take good care of what we have and try to stock up on supplies!"

"That's right! While there's still time, dry everything that can be dried. If we have to flee for our lives, at least we'll have something to eat and we can survive for a while! Whoever has the ability to get things from the mountains, go and get them! Get as much as you can, and having stored grain will put our minds at ease!"

"Yes, yes, yes!..."

While waiting in line, the villagers chatted, creating quite a lively atmosphere.

The village chief listened from the side and sighed, "Alas, no one expected it to change so quickly. It's gotten so hot all of a sudden. Looking at the dry ditch, I guess we might have to flee the famine."

He was also very uncertain. Plans can never keep up with changes, so he could only do his best. What the heavens do is beyond human control!

He hoped every day that dark clouds would gather and rain would pour down the next day, but when he opened his eyes the next day, he was still greeted by a bright, shining sun, which seemed to be mocking him!

Sigh! I should go to the Mo family's house for a chat when I have some free time, see if they have any new insights, or maybe they can come up with a good solution. If not, just talking to them can ease the gloom in their hearts!

"Have you noticed? The Mo family doesn't seem to be coming here to fetch water! But their crops are still growing so well. Is there some secret to it?"

Suddenly, someone in the crowd spoke up, which piqued the curiosity of the others.

Then, they all looked at the Mo family's land, hoping to use remote monitoring to check the situation. Unfortunately, they couldn't find anything unusual after watching for a long time.

Some people said, "It's too far away, you can't see it clearly. If there's any secret, it's in the ground, you can only see it clearly when you get close! Even if you stretch your necks out ten meters, you still can't see it clearly!"

Upon hearing this, everyone agreed that it made sense and turned their attention back to the present.

The village chief coughed a few times and said sternly, "How idle! You just do whatever comes to mind! Do you expect the Mo family to report everything they do? It's not like this now; they've been doing it since they started farming! What secret could they possibly have? If you insist on saying there is one, it's that they've dug pits in their fields to store water!"

Don't act on impulse! If you actually go and see everything, ruining their things, you'll have to bear the consequences yourself! Don't blame me for not warning you! Look for the cause of the problem within yourselves, instead of constantly nitpicking others! If there were a solution, would the Mo family keep it from everyone? Think about it, if there were good things, would the Mo family ever leave everyone out?

The village chief, with a strong voice, gave these people a lecture, fearing that they might do something irreversible in a moment of passion!

If that really happens, and the Mo family gets angry, it will be very difficult for him to handle. It's better to first teach these people a lesson!

It's better than these people getting what they deserve!

Upon hearing this, everyone realized that the village chief was right!

I was also a little scared, but thankfully I didn't have any brain farts and rush over to see what was going on, otherwise, it would have been hard to handle!

At this time of year, crops are incredibly precious. If they are damaged, whether intentionally or unintentionally, there's no way to explain it away!

If they don't go, nothing will happen!

If I go and damage it, I might not be able to afford to pay for it!

I'm a little scared now!

When the village chief saw that these people understood and gave him grateful looks, he breathed a sigh of relief!

Just listen to me!

"The Mo family has water, why don't they draw it out!"
