Chapter Five: You're the Best

Lu Lin reached out and ruffled Tang Wan's soft hair, then said, "Then wait for me here. Don't jump off the stool; it's dangerous."

"I'll go get you some water."

Tang Wan nodded and stood obediently on the stool, like a cute little kitten.

Lu Lin hurriedly turned around and ran to get water. During this process, Lu Lin realized for the first time that buying such a large house was really inconvenient.

Tang Wan stood on tiptoe, imitating Lu Lin's movements, and reached out her little hand to touch the red button.

With a "ding," the induction cooker, which had been running, stopped working.

But the sound startled Tang Wan.

She opened her big, grape-like eyes wide and stared intently at the induction cooker, finding it incredibly amazing.

Just as Tang Wan was examining the induction cooker, a somewhat indifferent child's voice suddenly rang out behind her, interrupting her actions.

"Who are you? What are you doing at my uncle's house?"

Tang Wan was slightly taken aback when she heard the unfamiliar voice, and then slowly turned around.

An eight- or nine-year-old boy was standing at the kitchen doorway.

The clothes he was wearing were the most expensive and well-dressed clothes in Tang Wan's limited experience.

With a cold expression on his face, he looked like the grumpy little tiger from an old TV show about animals.

Upon hearing his words, Tang Wan became somewhat nervous and frightened, waving her hands and beginning to use sign language to try to explain why she was there.

[My older brother brought me here.]

However, the boy in front of her did not know sign language, and his gaze toward Tang Wan became increasingly hostile.

He reached out and tried to grab Tang Wan's hand, wanting to pull her off the stool.

Tang Wan remembered the last words of the older brother named Lu Lin, who told her not to leave the stool, so she anxiously gripped the edge of the marble tabletop and refused to let go.

It was making anxious "ah ah" noises.

Like a weak kitten that has been bullied too much, it swung its paw and caused a minor scratch to the bad guy.

This move is extremely dangerous.

Tang Wan could easily fall if she wasn't careful.

The child had no intention of hurting Tang Wan. Although his movements were hurried and his strength was great, he still carefully stood in front of Tang Wan so that if she fell, she would only fall on him.

Tang Wan was so anxious that she burst into tears.

She didn't know why this little boy was pulling at her; all she knew was that many adults only liked obedient children.

I must listen to that older brother and stand here obediently, without running around.

Otherwise, she will be abandoned.

The trash on the ground and the trash in the trash can are collected by the recycling lady, but no one will collect the trash that is thrown away.

Tang Wan longs for the day when she can stay in a house.

She wanted to have a family, like the director and her daughter.

She doesn't need a big room, she doesn't eat much, and she could even eat less.

She just didn't want to be abandoned again, and she didn't want to be alone.

She wanted a home.

However, the young man in front of her seemed to be destroying Tang Wan's wish, forcefully pulling her back to reality.

They wanted Tang Wan to leave this fairytale-like world.

Tang Wan bit her lip tightly, trying not to let her sobs escape.

Nobody likes a child who yells and screams.

She didn't want to be a child nobody liked.

She needs to be more sensible and more obedient.

That way, people will like you.

But it really hurts, and I'm so tired.

Tang Wan felt like her hands were about to break.

Her tears were falling in a steady stream, one drop at a time, landing on the ground and onto her clothes, forming small water stains. She looked so pitiful.

The fact that she couldn't see clearly made Tang Wan even more frightened.

Finally, Tang Wan could no longer hold on. She let go of the stone table, the light in her eyes dimmed, and she collapsed backward.

It slammed hard onto the little boy.

"hiss!"

The little boy gasped, but stretched out his hands to protect Tang Wan, preventing her from falling to the ground.

The little boy scrambled to his feet and grabbed Tang Wan, trying to get her to stand up. But when he saw Tang Wan's face covered in tears, he froze.

"Please, don't cry."

He reached into his pocket, took out a handkerchief, and hurriedly wiped away Tang Wan's tears.

He sighed as he wiped.

To be honest, he had never seen anyone in his life who could just shed tears without making a sound.

Those big eyes, with tears streaming down their faces, really looked quite pitiful.

Just then, the little boy's body suddenly rose up, and he was lifted up like a chick.

Lu Lin looked at Tang Wan, who was crying silently on the ground, and then at the troublesome thing in his hands. His brows furrowed deeply, and he said in an unfriendly tone, "You brat, who told you to come to my house?"

"You came all along, but you still come here to bully a child?"

He tossed the troublesome boy he was holding onto the large, serpentine sofa beside him, then squatted down and picked up the poor little guy who was crying so hard he couldn't catch his breath.

Her tone was unusually gentle, and she had a patience she never showed to this brat: "What's wrong? Did Brother Lu Ze bully you? Shall I beat him up for you?"

"Let's beat him up together."

Tang Wan wiped away her tears and shook her head. She pointed to the small stool next to her, patted Lu Lin's arm, and told her to put herself on it.

Lu Lin was somewhat puzzled, but he did as instructed anyway.

Standing on the stool, Tang Wan pointed to herself and then to the stool, looking somewhat clumsy.
