Chapter 11 Numb.11 Fantasy Object
The light shining directly on the screen made Xu Wu's eyes a little sore. She couldn't help but blink, and then she repeatedly dragged the progress bar of the video, watching it four or five times.
She didn't know if it was because of the high outdoor temperature, but she felt that the temperature of her hands was gradually rising, though not to an unbearable degree.
Xu Wu gently stroked the edge of the phone case with her index finger, a fleeting look of pleasure in her lowered eyes.
He's quite a vicious person, truly like a rat hiding in the gutter, avoiding direct confrontation and always avoiding people. But late at night, he'll tentatively climb out of the sewers, and only after confirming that people are sound asleep will he unleash his frenzied revenge.
Xu Wu could easily imagine the furious expressions on the faces of those people in the video.
It's a fair exchange, really; even blood-sucking mosquitoes are more valuable than them.
"Xu Wu." Fang Rumei, holding her youngest son who had just been put to sleep, ordered, "I can't leave right now. Remember to wash the bowls in the kitchen."
Xu Wu snapped out of her daze, turned around, and glanced indifferently at Fang Rumei's hand, which was gently patting her half-brother's arm. The hand was slowly showing signs of aging, and there were rough, thick calluses on her palm.
She had long forgotten what it felt like to be held in those hands.
So he looked away, walked to the sofa in the living room, bent down and picked up the tote bag he had just thrown there.
"Where are you going?" Fang Rumei frowned.
"Let's go back." Xu Wu walked towards the entrance to put on her shoes.
"What are you going back for?" Fang Rumei didn't dare to speak loudly for fear of waking her son, but her tone was clearly anxious: "Your brother is only staying for a few days, he'll leave after a few days, can't you even bear with that?"
"What are you going to tolerate?" Xu Wu put on his shoes and sneered at Fang Rumei's words, saying sarcastically, "Aren't you afraid I'll smash his head again?"
Suffocated by her words, Fang Rumei opened her mouth several times, wanting to say something but not knowing how to start. Especially when Xu Wu's eyes looked at her inexplicably, she felt guilty, and then anger rose within her.
There was no other reason; she just felt that Xu Wu's eyes looked too much like her ex-husband's. Even though he was her son, he didn't inherit much of her features, and they weren't close to each other.
The man's eyes, however, were not so cold. Instead, he always smiled and was so gentle that she found it repulsive.
Seeing that she had no reaction, Xu Wu chuckled and turned to leave. She had no intention of staying tonight.
When she was very young, she would feel sorry for Fang Rumei, but she found that her initiative to give and share the burden was taken for granted by Fang Rumei.
It seems that women can never escape the cage of domestic chores that confines them to their families.
After leaving the residential area, Xu Wu stopped and let out a breath. Although the pent-up frustration in her heart hadn't completely dissipated, it had at least eased somewhat, and she no longer felt so suffocated.
After turning twelve, she thought she would no longer experience similar feelings of fear, but today she realized that some things cannot be eliminated simply by saying they are gone.
The rope had actually been wrapped around her neck the whole time; what she thought was peace was just a temporary compromise with the rope.
There are four hours left before the online classes start.
Xu Wu sighed. When she reached the bus stop, a bus that would take her home was waiting for her.
The car door closed, and the heavy vehicle began to move slowly.
Most of the time, she was unwilling to call her rented place a home, and Fang Rumei's home was not her home either.
It's impossible not to feel envious, but she doesn't have the extra energy to feel envious right now.
Around four o'clock, the sun finally began to cool down a bit. When Xu Wu got out of the car, she went to the 24-hour convenience store downstairs and bought a bottle of water. As soon as she took it out of the refrigerator, the cold air rushed against her palm to cool it down.
"You're back so late today?" the boss asked casually.
"Yeah, I just went out on the way." Xu Wu scanned the code to pay.
"Hey, little sister," the shopkeeper asked tentatively.
"What's wrong?" she asked, puzzled.
Are any of your classmates coming today?
"No."
Xu Wu never invites people to her place, as it is no different from an invasion of her territory to her, and she does not like anyone setting foot in her private space.
"I see..." the shopkeeper said worriedly, "I just saw a man walk over there. If he's not a classmate, should I call the police for you?"
The shop owner has been here for a long time and has a good relationship with the neighbors. He also knows that Xu Wu lives alone and is a student, so he usually takes care of her a little. He can also recognize unfamiliar faces.
"A man?" Xu Wu paused for a moment, then realized what she meant and asked, "Is he someone with long bangs who likes to walk with his head down?"
The boss nodded: "Yes, yes, we know each other?"
"It's okay, I know him." Xu Wu smiled.
"That's good. I was afraid it was some strange person." The boss breathed a sigh of relief.
Xu Wu took the bottled water, thanked him, and then left the store to head towards her residence.
There's an 80% chance that the man is Jie Ying. Although she doesn't know why he came, she can reluctantly put on a nice face for a while because of the video.
"Jie Ying." Xu Wu stepped onto the stairs.
With her view obstructed, she couldn't see if there was any movement at the end, but her sensitive ears caught a faint sound of a plastic bag rubbing together.
As she climbed the last step, most of the light was blocked by the buildings overhead. In the dim light, she still caught the eye of the person in front of her.
Like a cat.
Xu Wu suddenly remembered Xie Ying's WeChat profile picture.
Human eyes don't emit light, so naturally the pair in front of me won't either.
But for some reason, she felt that it was just like a black hole with a strong devouring power. This black hole was greedy and picky, and it didn't care about the impurities around it. It just stared at her and tried to lick her whole body through its eyes.
Snap—
The light switch at the entrance was turned on.
The sudden orange-yellow light caught Xu Wu off guard, causing her to raise her hand to shield her eyes. Once her eyes adjusted, she lowered her hand and looked at the person who had come.
It was indeed Jie Ying, but she wasn't wearing her school uniform. Instead, she wore a black and white short-sleeved shirt, and a black choker resembling a bandage around her neck. Her fair and delicate collarbone was not concealed at all, making her undeniably sexy.
"......"
Xu Wu struggled to look away. What were they wearing? Did they have to be so revealing?
"You, you, you still..." Jie Ying's stuttering voice echoed in the small space, stumbling between the walls before finally reaching Xu Wu's ears. Her voice seemed veiled in mist, and when the last syllable lingered, it sent shivers down one's spine.
"The injury to my knee..." Jie Ying unconsciously clenched the plastic bag he was carrying. Afraid that he would annoy Xu Wu by not being able to express himself in a complete sentence, he held the bag up to her.
Xu Wu glanced inside the bag through the open opening and raised an eyebrow: "For me?"
"Yes, the swelling will go down quickly." His face turned red.
Xu Wu stared at him for a few seconds, then reached out and took the money. She placed her fingers over the spot where Jie Ying had taken it, the warmth still lingering. Then, she asked softly, almost casually, "Did I do something that made you blush? Every time you look at me..."
She paused, then, under Jie Ying's uneasy gaze, suddenly turned malicious as she deliberately said, "You're just fantasizing about me, aren't you?"
Jie Ying: "!"
These words were too direct and blunt. Jie Ying abruptly looked up, wanting to refute them, but the words caught in her throat, and she stammered again, "No, no, no, it's not..."
He talked for a long time without getting to the bottom of it, but when he saw Xu Wu raise his eyebrows and look on with amusement, as if he had found something to amuse him, the choking feeling in his throat finally dissipated.
...She wasn't angry.
Jieying thought slowly.
“I would not do such a thing to… to the fog.”
I clearly did it, and it's really disgusting to lie to myself.
"My face... I blush because I always feel happy when I see you."
He doesn't yet understand why being happy isn't enough.
Jie Ying was sincerely apologizing and explaining, but her hands were constantly clenching the hem of her clothes, as if she was afraid that if she said the wrong thing she would be kicked out, or that Xu Wu would not apply the medicine.
When Xu Wu heard Jie Ying say "I'm happy to see you" in his rambling, he couldn't help but frown. Then he found it funny. He heard Jie Ying call his name by a single character, but he was too lazy to care.
This person is absolutely bizarre. Just seeing her makes them turn into a complete mess, without even a hint of weakness or struggle. They're so pathetic.
happy.
Xu Wu's tongue lingered on those two words, chewing them several times but unable to swallow them whole, her heart pounding.
I actually felt happy because of her.
It's a lie.
"Hello." Xu Wu's thin lips parted.
Jie Ying immediately shut his mouth, staring intently at her until a key was tossed into his arms. Then he saw Xu Wu raise her chin at him and say, "Go open the door."
Jie Ying was stunned.
He hadn't been to this house many times, and after renting it to Xu Wu, he basically stopped coming. Even so, he knew the layout of the house by heart, and could find the place of a book or a pen with his eyes closed.
Now Xu Wu says... Open the door.
Jie Ying stared blankly at the key. Could he get in?
"Give it back if you won't open it." Xu Wu said impatiently.
Upon hearing this, Jie Ying hurriedly bent down, inserted the key into the lock, turned it to the left, and opened the lock. She then turned the doorknob to open the door and stepped aside to let Xu Wu in.
Xu Wu ignored it and instead sat on the box by the door, took out a pair of slippers from the shoe rack behind her against the wall, and placed them next to her.
She had just untied the shoelaces of her white sneakers when a shadow fell over her head. Before she could react, Jie Ying restrained herself and knelt down on one knee.
All she could see was the whorl of hair on his head, and an overwhelming, refreshing aura enveloped her from all directions, almost pulling her into his arms.
Xu Wu froze, watching as Jie Ying reached out and gently grasped her shoe.
