Chapter 13 Numb.13 Getting Slapped
"+86 17xxxxxxxx0: Does Wuwu make medicine?"
"+86 17xxxxxxxx0: I want to eat, ...
Xu Wu spent another four hours studying online in the morning. She finally finished and was about to stretch before thinking about what time she should leave with Fu Xi, but as soon as she turned off the computer, she saw these two messages pop up on her phone screen. As if infected with a virus, they kept repeating the words "want to eat".
Take medicine?
Xu Wu thought expressionlessly, "I really want to slap him."
She ignored the two frantic messages, exited the app, opened the WeChat contact labeled "stalker," and typed a few words—
Five: Are you sick?
The phone vibrated twice. After reading the short text message from the other end, Jie Ying, who had been lying in bed with a flushed face, glazed eyes, and a dizzy head, suddenly sat up after reading the message. Her eyes were full of disbelief, and even the hand holding the phone was trembling. Her eyes, which were bloodshot from illness, slowly widened.
What happened?
Jieying's brain works very slowly, yet she is still thinking—
Xu Wu sent him a message, the first time, just two words and a question mark.
Is this... concern? Jie Ying couldn't help but blush even more.
Am I dreaming? If I'm not dreaming, how would Xu Wu know he's sick? It would be better if I stayed in the dream forever.
Jie Ying bent his legs and hugged his knees, slowly burying his head in the blanket. Was the hallucination caused by the fever really that severe? His heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was about to jump out of his chest to find the culprit that was causing it.
"Stalker: I'm fine ^_^"
"Stalker: I'll definitely go to class tomorrow."
Xu Wu: "......."
She was baffled by Jie Ying's response. He wasn't really asking if she was sick. Couldn't she tell the difference between good and bad words?
Yes, that's the kind of person Jieying is. While blocking out words, she can automatically capture the few words she wants to hear and put them into a sentence.
Xu Wu understood and stopped paying attention.
She had arranged to meet Fu Xi at 11:30, and she had to leave around 11:00. Since it was just a meal anyway, she didn't care about what to wear and simply put on a sweatshirt before heading out.
In early November, the temperature difference between day and night is large. The temperature is often high during the day, but it can drop to seven or eight degrees Celsius after five o'clock.
The road running from west to east was bustling with people, mostly elderly people who had finished selling their vegetables and were preparing to pack up and go home. The noise of the crowd was deafening.
Walk straight ahead for another seven or eight minutes and you'll see a restaurant, with a milk tea shop and a breakfast shop on either side. Xu Wu pushed open the glass door and went inside. Her gaze shifted to the left and she saw Fu Xi sitting in the corner playing on his phone.
She brought people with her.
Xu Wu glanced at the boy sitting opposite her. His back was to her, so she couldn't see his features. She knew Fu Xi was popular, but she rarely saw her getting so close to any guy in private.
"Fog." Fu Xi spotted her, put down his phone, and waved to her.
As she made this movement, the boy also turned around and looked at her.
Xu Wu nodded, glanced at the boy out of the corner of her eye to confirm that she didn't recognize him, and then looked at him with her eyes to ask what was going on when she sat down next to Fu Xi.
"The person who sat in front of me," Fu Xi leaned closer and whispered in her ear, covering her mouth, "the one who played the prince with you."
Now that you mention it, Xu Wu remembered his name.
Zheng Liangwen.
"Hello." The other person smiled at her.
Xu Wu nodded in response.
Why was he singled out?
Xu Wu continued to look at Fu Xi, and that was the meaning behind her gaze.
"I made plans to meet him today, and I was thinking we could go together," Fu Xi said with a fawning smile.
Xu Wu didn't speak, but his expression became somewhat inquisitive and meaningful.
"You don't mind, do you?" Fu Xi asked pitifully.
"I don't mind." Xu Wu took a tissue and wiped the table in front of her briefly before crumpling the tissue into a ball and throwing it into the trash can under the table.
She genuinely didn't care about it; after all, it was Fu Xi's business, and she was at most an outsider. Besides... Fu Xi seemed to enjoy watching him.
To be fair, Zheng Liangwen's appearance is not as beautiful as Xie Ying's, which is almost abnormal, but his hairstyle suits his face shape. He has a slightly parted haircut. However, he has one eye single and one eye double. The double eyelid of the eye is very obvious, while the single eyelid is more like an inner double eyelid.
"How did you convince him?" Xu Wu asked as she scanned the QR code on the table to order food.
“It’s not about persuasion,” Fu Xi retorted, turning his gaze to Zheng Liangwen directly opposite him, raising an eyebrow and saying, “It’s about voluntariness.”
Sensing the blatant threat, Zheng Liangwen suppressed a laugh but nodded in agreement with Fu Xi: "Yes, I did it voluntarily."
Xu Wu didn't ask any more questions. After the fried rice he ordered was served, he took a disposable chopstick from the table.
She and Fu Xi stumbled upon this shop by chance. It wasn't far from where they lived, and the key was that it was cheap and delicious. The fried rice was made with a generous amount of eggs, which coated the rice grains and created a wonderful aroma when eaten.
After they had almost finished eating, Fu Xi gently touched Xu Wu's arm, and only after confirming that her expression hadn't changed did he ask, "We're going to the mall to buy some things later, want to come along?"
"No, I have something to do later, you guys go ahead." Xu Wu wasn't someone who couldn't read the room, so rather than the three of them going together, she decided to give up her seat.
She didn't know what else she had to do later, but given the current situation, she had to bite the bullet and say she did, even if there was nothing wrong.
Wait a moment.
Xu Wu suddenly recalled his brief conversation with Jie Ying before leaving the house. Then he thought about it and realized that Jie Ying probably didn't think he was being scolded.
Is he really sick?
Xu Wu frowned.
Seeing her deep in thought, Fu Xi asked curiously, "What's wrong?"
"No," Xu Wu replied, snapping out of her daze. "Is there a pharmacy nearby?"
“Yes, it’s across the street,” Zheng Liangwen replied.
"What's wrong? Are you sick?" Fu Xi asked with concern.
Xu Wu: "......"
After being scolded by Fu Xi's unintentional remark, she realized that she suddenly wanted to slap herself. She was really crazy; why did she even ask that question?
......
After dinner, Fu Xi wanted to take Zheng Liangwen to the mall by taxi, and Xu Wu watched them leave. She had originally planned to go back like that, but before she could even take a step, she remembered what Zheng Liangwen had said and unconsciously glanced across the street—
Found it! The two pharmacies are located on the left side of the restaurant directly opposite.
What does it have to do with her? She's not going to die anyway, it's not because she's sick.
Xu Wu withdrew his gaze and prepared to leave.
So what if he's sick? He must have family members at home, and at the very least, they'd know to take medicine.
Do you have any medicine?
Xu Wu stopped in her tracks, recalling the two messages that number had sent her, the words of which implied that she wanted to take the medicine she made.
Whether she can make medicine or not is unknown, but the medicine she makes that can cure a life is of very high quality.
Ugh, so annoying.
"It'll be seventeen yuan and fifty cents in total." The clerk put the fever reducer into a bag and handed it to her.
"Thank you." Xu Wu took the money and scanned the code to pay.
After leaving the pharmacy, she glanced down at the things she was carrying and fell silent.
She actually bought it, and then, she didn't know where Jieying lived.
Xu Wu took out his phone and sent his location to Jie Ying with a blank expression.
"Five: [Positioning]"
"Cough cough cough cough." Jie Ying was drinking water when she saw the message and almost choked. Her eyes were red and watery.
He was completely out of his mind; in a daze, he raised his hand and slapped himself.
The force was not restrained at all, and the sound of the crack echoed in the large living room.
A handprint quickly appeared on his face, its deep red contrasting sharply with the flush of his sick face.
It's not a dream, it hurts, it's reality happening right now.
Jie Ying took several deep breaths, mentally prepared herself, and encouraged herself before making a voice call.
Looking at the incoming call screen, Xu Wu answered the call. As soon as she put it to her ear, a deep male voice came from the other end: "Hello."
Xu Wu paused for a moment.
Jie Ying's voice was slightly hoarse and low, and when it came softly from the other side of the screen and echoed in her ears, Xu Wu unconsciously tensed up. Her hand holding the phone tightened, and she felt a barely perceptible itch in her ear, like a feather being gently scratched.
“Your voice…” Xu Wu hesitated.
You're really sick.
"Yes, yes, I'm sorry." Jie Ying said hoarsely, "I didn't mean to be so rude. If... if you don't want to listen to me, then what I say is normal."
—What nonsense are you talking about? When did she ever stop wanting to listen to him?
Does being sick make your mind sluggish and clumsy? Xu Wu didn't know, but that didn't stop her from becoming more composed.
"A cold?" she asked.
"No, no... it's a fever," Jie Ying answered honestly.
"Why?"
“I…because…” Jie Ying stammered.
I can't say, I absolutely can't say.
Jie Ying sat on the floor with her back against the sofa, her hands gripping her pants tightly, her heavy, rough breathing rising and falling, her heart pounding in her throat.
The fog will get angry and will tell him to get lost.
He couldn't accept this fact.
The pain of the fever was like being thrown into a fire and burned alive. Before he was completely consumed, all he prayed for and longed for was that one glance from Xu Wu.
"Do you have anyone at home?" Xu Wu had no desire to explore his strange ideas at all, and she wouldn't force him to answer if he didn't want to.
It would be better to keep him to himself; saying it out loud would only disgust her.
“No, no…” Jie Ying said softly, “I live alone… alone.”
These words reveal so much information; no wonder she has never seen Jie Ying with anyone by her side, and she has always been alone.
If it is a person, then everything he does will be interpreted as something that no one can know, no one can know, and no one can guide.
So he's a freak, a poisonous mushroom that only dares to hide in a corner and observe others.
Even so, the moment she heard Jieying say that she was all alone, she felt a strange sense of pleasure, the source of which she could not find.
She suddenly realized for the first time that she could understand where Jie Ying's excitement came from, enduring the fact that the blood in her body was screaming wildly.
After a long pause, she chuckled: "Jie Ying."
The smile vanished, replaced by an aura of malice emanating from within: "You've been abandoned."
