Chapter 15 Numb.15 Spring.Dream
That kind of person...that kind of person.
Xu Wu sat upright on the sofa, her back ramrod straight. Her hands, resting on her lap, seemed helpless and unsure of what to do. She was on tenterhooks, her heart pounding in her chest.
It's so perverse it's outrageous.
She clenched her fists tightly, lowered her head, and bit her lip in silent endurance.
The only sound in the large living room was her soft, shallow breathing. This quiet did not lessen her tension; on the contrary, in this place filled with the scent of film, her mind began to uncontrollably replay the scene from just moments ago—
Jie Ying's eyes were terribly red, partly due to his fever, and his disheveled appearance made it difficult for him to lift his head.
Even so, his eyes were red and brimming with tears, glistening with moisture.
In that instant, Xu Wu's assessment of him was reduced to eight words—"tears welling up, like pear blossoms in the rain."
She thought that Jieying was beautiful even when she cried.
Then she thought of the black cat on his WeChat. In her mind’s eye, she felt as if the cat was hanging its head in front of her, even its ears were drooping. The whole cat was ashamed to look at its owner and just wanted to hide in its cat bed, curl up its tail and shrink into a ball.
He stammered, begging her not to see him like that.
But this is not something she could do with willpower alone.
Xu Wu thought about the place her gaze had touched. If her gaze were tangible, she would have been burned and felt pain for a moment.
How could someone... Xu Wu couldn't help but think, could they do that...?
The apartment was very well soundproofed; even through the doors and walls, Xu Wu knew without a doubt what Jie Ying was doing locked in her room.
Even though she had completely shut out all noise, she inexplicably felt that faint, almost imperceptible breathing sound penetrate the wall, flow with the air to her ear, and turn her earlobe a shameful pink.
Jie Ying's room was decorated in a minimalist style that matched his personality, mostly in black and white, or other cool colors.
However, despite this embellishment, he is a passionate person, like the most intense fire burning in the snow at minus thirty degrees Celsius.
......
The tabletop vibrated twice, and Xu Wu snapped out of her reverie to look at the two WeChat messages that popped up on the screen after it lit up.
She picked up her phone, unlocked it, and went inside—
"Stalker: Can you please go home first today?"
"Stalker: I'm so sorry..."
The words I could say to her in person by simply opening the door, I have to say over the phone.
Xu Wu had calmed down enough, and she tapped a letter with her thumb.
Five: Okay
Apart from that, he didn't ask another single question.
She got up and walked to the entrance hall. Just as she was about to change her shoes, she suddenly remembered something else. Then she glanced at the closed door and maliciously thought of a good way to get revenge.
Xu Wu took out his phone again, opened the messages, took a screenshot of all the spam calls on the screen, and then sent it to Jie Ying via WeChat.
Five: Why weren't you so talkative before?
The screenshots were posted in three separate images, each showing vastly different content, but all essentially the same thing—
"Wuwu looked adorable when she smiled while talking to others today."
"Say something to me, even just one word. This jealousy is killing me."
"I dreamt of fog; it means I'm doing something bad to you."
"I am blaspheming you, I am devastated."
"I'm sorry, I ...."
There are countless examples like this; Xu Wu has read them more than a dozen times.
Just as she was certain the message had been successfully sent, she heard a loud crash from the shadows room as something heavy fell to the ground, her emotions clearly flustered.
Xu Wu's lips curled up slightly, and she felt much happier.
She naturally didn't care whether Jieying wanted to chase after her to apologize, since she didn't want to hear those three words. So, as she changed her shoes, left, and closed the door, she did catch a glimpse of Jieying hurriedly pushing open the door out of the corner of her eye.
Xu Wu glanced down.
One on, one off.
In the short time it took her to get into the elevator, she casually set Jie Ying's messages to Do Not Disturb mode, then opened her Moments and refreshed it. Coincidentally, the first post was a nine-grid photo collage posted by Fu Xi.
Xu Wu looked through them one by one.
Three photos of food, three selfies, one of Zheng Liangwen showing her back as he played the claw machine for her, one of the plush toys she won, and the last one of them being toasted with milk tea.
She and Fu Xi have no mutual friends, so she can't judge the meaning of this post from the comments section, but it's quite obvious.
The elevator dinged as it arrived on the first floor. She walked with her head down, giving Fu Xi a thumbs-up as she went.
What I saw today was still too exciting.
Xu Wu put her phone back in her pocket. After estimating that it wasn't far from where she lived, she decided not to take the bus and figured she could just walk back.
In fact, she has never liked going out. Part of this is because she was never part of going out when she was a child, and another part is because she doesn't have a wide social circle, so even if she does go out, she doesn't know where to go.
You could say that what she didn't get before, she doesn't want to get now. It's not about revenge or making amends; it's simply that she doesn't want to fight against herself.
After Xu Wu entered high school, Fang Rumei would intentionally or unintentionally bring up the idea of going on a family vacation together. Xu Wu could tell that her mother wanted to make up for it, but she didn't understand and felt it was unnecessary.
Sometimes she felt that Fang Rumei was contradictory and unreasonable. She didn't need to be self-righteous and sentimental. Of course, if this made Fang Rumei feel that she was a competent mother, Xu Wu wouldn't be so clueless.
It was almost 4 p.m. when I got home.
Xu Wu went into the kitchen and took a quick look. She found that there was still some rice left over from last night. After thinking for a moment, she decided to make a simple fried rice with eggs. She also took a sausage from the cupboard, cut it into small pieces, and added it in.
This is one of the few dishes she's ever made in her self-proclaimed culinary career that didn't turn out badly.
The online class started at 7 PM and ended around 10 PM. Xu Wu turned off the computer, took a shower, dried her hair, and then went to bed. She set an alarm, turned off the light, and then opened the chat window with Jie Ying while lying on her side.
Unexpectedly, there wasn't a single message.
Xu Wu: "......"
That only made her seem presumptuous.
Unable to pinpoint the source of this depressed feeling, Xu Wu simply turned off her phone and placed it on the bedside table to avoid further agitation, then closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
If dreams are a microcosm of daytime—
“Misty…” Jie Ying knelt between her legs. When he opened his eyes, the dazed and fervent look in them swept over her, completely engulfing her inside and out.
Xu Wu felt that she had sweated a little, and the water seeping from her skin clung to the clothes covering her body, making her feel uncomfortable and wanting to pull them away.
Then, she saw Jie Ying lift her knees and take two steps forward, getting closer to her—
Xu Wu suddenly woke up and subconsciously touched her face; it was cool, not hot.
She propped herself up halfway to get her phone; it was only four in the morning.
How could I have such a dream? What's the difference between that and dream interpretation...?
Speaking of which, was Jieying's expression like that when she did that kind of thing?
Xu Wu's brain was slowly turning, so... fascinated.
She leaned against the headboard and gently exhaled a warm breath.
It felt like being in a dream.
......
"What's with those dark circles under your eyes?" During the second break in the cafeteria, Fu Xi sat opposite Xu Wu, drinking soy milk and raising an eyebrow, exaggeratingly saying, "Do you know you look like an animal right now?"
"I know." Xu Wu took a bite of the vegetable bun in her hand, her face expressionless. "Panda."
It's not surprising that Fu Xi made that connection. She doesn't have the habit of staying up late, but when she does, she gets two huge and noticeable dark circles around her eyes, to the point that she wants to wear sunglasses when she goes out.
"Knowing it's Monday, why didn't you go to sleep last night?"
“No, not this one,” Xu Wu pinched the bridge of her nose. “I’m going to sleep.”
"You're so sleepy after sleeping." Fu Xi clicked his tongue in a threatening tone, "Be careful you don't get caught if you're so sleepy you fly away."
Xu Wu chuckled, unconcerned.
When the bell rang for the third period and the math teacher walked in, Fu Xi's prediction came true.
Xu Wu felt as if she saw a giant sleeping pill walk onto the podium. Before she could even endure it for ten minutes, the person came over and knocked on her desk.
As soon as I looked up, I was met with my math teacher's kind smile: "So sleepy today?"
The math teacher was a man, a little old man nearing fifty, which fits most people's impression of a math teacher from their student days: he had a receding hairline and loved wearing Heilan Home brand clothes.
And with the math teacher's words, all eyes turned to them, mostly out of pure curiosity.
Xu Wu: "......"
How could she explain that she had always thought she was awake?
"...Is it alright?" Xu Wu carefully chose a compromise answer.
Xia Ni, who was sitting next to her, couldn't help but burst out laughing.
"If you're still sleepy, stand for a while and wake yourself up." The math teacher didn't make things difficult for her. After saying that, he walked back to the podium with his hands behind his back. However, he couldn't escape standing for more than ten minutes.
Class continued, and Xu Wu unconsciously glanced at the seat near the back door. It was empty; its owner hadn't come today.
Xu Wu guessed that he hadn't taken his medication, but he had to admit that a fleeting sense of relief crossed his mind.
Thank goodness they didn't come.
Xu Wu didn't dare to think about what it would be like to run into the other person involved in that dream.
Jieying took a day off and didn't send her any messages all day.
Whether it's the stalker on WeChat or that phone number starting with 17.
Logically, things should have calmed down and her life should have returned to normal. Xu Wu should be happy, so she doesn't understand why she's still a little angry.
WeChat is quiet; there isn't a single message.
Xu Wu stared at it quietly for a while, and finally canceled Jie Ying's "Do Not Disturb" setting.
As if holding back a competitive spirit, Xu Wu didn't ask him if he had taken his medicine.
After the morning classes ended, Fu Xi asked her to go to the cafeteria.
After hesitating for a long time during the meal, Xu Wu finally asked slowly, "Fu Xi."
"Hmm?" Fu Xi shoveled a mouthful of rice without looking up, his words muffled.
Do you... dream about other people?
"What do you mean by 'others'? Same sex or opposite sex."
"......opposite sex."
"That depends on the nature of the opposite sex," Fu Xi said meaningfully. "We wouldn't have those kinds of dreams with normal friends."
"What dream?" Xu Wu didn't understand.
"illusion."

Strange Child
On the seventh day after being forced to stay at Qi Jiang's house, Jiang Zhi regretted telling him that she was his lover while he was unconscious after his car accident.
"Jiang Zhi." Qi Jiang walked towards her, his fingers hooked around the underwear she had lost a few days ago. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Since we're lovers, why don't you fulfill your obligations?"
"You know what? The first time I was with you, I used this."
He smiled and his eyes crinkled.
