Chapter 19 Numb.19 Kiss

Chapter 19 Numb.19 Kiss

Jie Ying's lips were pressed into a straight line, his eyes fixed on her without moving, his gaze as deep and somber as the night, his lips a very pale color.

The hand that was gripping Xu Wu's wrist also had a sickly white complexion, caused by years of being hidden in sleeves and never seeing the light. The veins flowing under the skin were clearly visible, and the finger bones protruded.

He already had a stutter and didn't like to speak much, let alone in this situation.

He knew that Shang Xu's gaze was sweeping between him and Xu Wu, making his hand holding Xu Wu tremble slightly, but he didn't say anything, he just stubbornly stared at the girl in front of him.

In the silent stillness, Xu Wu seemed to understand what was in his eyes.

- It is a prayer.

This unexpected incident prevented her from shaking hands with Shang Xu.

Xu Wu raised an eyebrow: "Something wrong?"

Jieying had only recently recovered from her illness, and the temperature of his palms was still slightly cool. Only when his fingers pressed against the skin of her wrist could she belatedly feel the weight of this person.

His strength was very light, he didn't dare to use much force, but Xu Wu sensed a hint of constraint in it.

Fu Xi, who was not far away, gasped when he saw the scene of carnage. He immediately started brainstorming, trying to figure out what to do. After hesitating for a long time, he silently took a step back and did not step forward.

"Classmate." Shang Xu wasn't stupid. Even though he sensed the unusual atmosphere between them, and even though he knew there was exclusion involved, he was dissatisfied inside. But he forced a smile and looked at Jie Ying, who hadn't even glanced at him, and tried to ease the tension with a joke: "If you're going to shake hands, you have to do it first, right?"

Jie Ying ignored him, and Shang Xu's smile froze.

"Something's wrong," Jie Ying said in a hoarse voice, his eyes darkening.

Following behind Xu Wu was almost a conditioned reflex for him. He didn't know what Fu Xi had said to Xu Wu, but when he saw Xu Wu walk over and try to shake hands with the man, he felt like he was about to drown.

An overwhelming feeling of suffocation coiled around his neck like a python, yet he dared not look away, fearing that Xu Wu might actually reach out.

He felt that his rationality had completely collapsed, leaving only a shell dominated by emotions.

The rage of jealousy burned him so intensely that the world seemed to collapse, and he willingly sank deeper and deeper into the sea of desire.

He was absolutely certain that Xu Wu wouldn't save him.

Therefore, when he came to his senses and realized that he had stopped their touch, he was overjoyed for a second, but dared not look up.

He was afraid to see Xu Wu's emotionless eyes.

Jieying was no longer afraid of her scolding or disgust; what he feared was being treated like a stranger, with no attention paid to him whatsoever.

This cannot happen; he will break down and his personality will self-destruct.

Fortunately, Xu Wu's eyes showed surprise.

Jie Ying couldn't help but increase the force a little.

"In a hurry?" Xu Wu sensed it and knew that her skin was red from being squeezed, but she remained calm and did not let him let go.

Her slightly parted thin lips touched lightly as she spoke, soft and honey-colored.

Jie Ying's gaze was drawn in, her eyes darkening. She didn't hear what Xu Wu said at all, and just nodded haphazardly.

Her lips are very thin, and when she curls them up, they always give off a distant feeling.

True to her nature, Jie Ying's Adam's apple bobbed.

Xu Wu glanced at his expression, ignored it, and slightly turned to wave at Fu Xi. When he jogged over, she said, "I'm leaving now, I'll come find you later."

Upon hearing this, Fu Xi glanced at Jie Ying, who was staring blankly at the ground behind Xu Wu, chuckled twice, and waved his hand: "No, no, no, you can go, I'll go back by myself."

She had no doubt that if she agreed to go with Xu Wu, Jie Ying's sinister expression would give her nightmares for days.

Seeing this, Xu Wu nodded and pulled Jie Ying away, his hand never leaving her side.

After the two had walked some distance, Shang Xu frowned and asked, "Who is that?"

"The actor you're competing for?" Fu Xi asked curiously. "But didn't you say you weren't interested in this play before?"

"I'm not interested in the play," Shang Xu said nonchalantly, his hands in his pockets.

Fu Xi: "?"

“Xu Wu and I were in the same class last year,” Shang Xu smiled. “Did she mention it?”

"......."

Fu Xi suddenly didn't know how to answer. Let alone whether he had mentioned it or not, Xu Wu didn't remember him at all, otherwise she wouldn't have reacted that way just now.

Fu Xi was unusually silent for several seconds. After finally deciding what to say, he hesitated, and as soon as he looked up, he saw Jie Ying, who was following behind Xu Wu, suddenly turn around.

His eyes were deep black, unfathomable, cold and devoid of any emotion. He stared at us coldly, seemingly looking at no one in particular. His gloomy and indifferent demeanor sent chills down our spines.

Fu Xi's heart skipped a beat. He wanted to take a closer look, but then he saw Jie Ying turn her head away.

Those few seconds seemed like just her imagination.

“…Shang Xu.” Fu Xi pursed his lips, subtly reminding him, “I think you'd better not get involved.”

For a fleeting moment, she even vaguely overlapped Jie Ying's back with Xu Wu's.

That chilling expression made her break out in a cold sweat. Having spent so much time with Xu Wu, she hadn't noticed so many abnormal aspects to Jie Ying. But just now, she truly had no doubt that Jie Ying had some dark intentions.

She didn't get a reply from Shang Xu, and when she turned around, she found him staring blankly in the direction Xu Wu and the other person had left, lost in thought.

Fu Xi felt utterly exhausted.

The exam ended at 4 p.m., and after lingering there for a while, almost 20 minutes had passed.

There are no evening self-study sessions on the day after each exam at No. 1 Middle School, so you can still see some students along the way, but you can hardly see them anymore as you walk further ahead.

Xu Wu walked ahead, with Jie Ying following closely behind.

Jie Ying looked down at her wrist, which was still being held in his hand. Her breathing became a little erratic, but she couldn't help but smile with a pleasant curve to her lips. The resentment she felt from the scene with that man earlier had lessened somewhat.

Xu Wu stopped in his tracks.

This is the passageway behind the school. It's not very wide, just wide enough for four or five people to stand in a row. Outside the railing are densely packed sycamore trees. When the wind blows, the leaves rustle and shake, and occasionally a few fall to the ground.

"Let go." Xu Wu turned around to face him, her tone indifferent.

After holding hands for so long, not only was the skin where their hands were clasped warmed, but the body heat also warmed Jieying's palms, so they were no longer cold.

We should be content.

Jie Ying hesitated for a moment, then slowly released her hand and took half a step back.

The setting sun shone lazily through the gaps in the leaves, casting tiny dappled light on the ground. Many of these light spots fell on Jie Ying's hair and shoulders. Even when he glanced up unintentionally, Xu Wu could see the green sycamore leaves swaying gently in his eyes.

"Do you want some tissues?" Jie Ying asked softly, then took out a pack of wet wipes from her pocket and handed it to Xu Wu.

Xu Wu glanced at him, then took it, but didn't pull out a tissue to wipe her hands; she just held it in her hand.

They fell silent again, and an eerie silence filled the space between them.

After a long pause, Jieying spoke softly, "Wu, will you... will you go to the club tomorrow?"

He spoke each word with extreme care, yet his cold, moist eyes held a faint hint of anticipation.

Like a feline, it sits obediently on the ground, waiting for its owner's response and reward.

"You wouldn't come just because I said I wouldn't?" Xu Wu asked calmly.

Jie Ying paused, then answered honestly, though with barely concealed disappointment, "If Wu doesn't want to see me."

“That’s right,” Xu Wu stepped forward and said cruelly, “I don’t want to see you at all.”

Jieying's lowered eyelashes trembled, and her nose tingled.

Why should I have anything to do with someone like you?

"She kept pestering me with disgusting things like saying how cute I am."

"Jie Ying, don't you have any shame?"

After blurting out those three sentences, Xu Wu noticed Jie Ying's red-rimmed eyes and froze, then frowned.

I'm about to cry again. Why do I cry so easily?

"I'm sorry," he said, his head bowed helplessly, his voice slightly choked with emotion, "Compared to me, someone like me, Wu prefers that person just now... right, right?"

If Xu Wu can touch him, he can naturally touch other people as well.

But that's what made him despair, and he couldn't stop it.

So annoying, so angry, that kind of person.

What makes someone like that so special? Does Wu really prefer that kind of look? Like the president of her club.

"You heard that?" Xu Wu scrutinized his expression. "Besides that, what else did you hear?"

"Does Wu want...do you want him to play the knight even more?"

"So what?" Xu Wu asked back.

In fact, Jie Ying didn't hear everything, since his mind was entirely focused on Xu Wu at the time, and he could only piece together the information from the few scattered words he overheard.

Before asking, he naively held onto some illusions, but when he finally received a definite answer, he didn't want to face it.

“Wu wants to choose him.” Jie Ying looked up, her eyes reddening.

This is a statement of fact, and the hands hanging at his sides are clenched into fists and trembling.

Xu Wu noticed this and crossed her arms: "He can help me, why shouldn't I choose him?"

After saying that, Jieying lowered her eyes.

“I can too…” he murmured.

"What?" Xu Wu didn't hear clearly.

"The fog hasn't been lifted, it's not like you've lifted me off the hook, is it?" He mustered his courage, trying to calm his pounding heart. "Choose me."

Upon hearing this, Xu Wu tilted her head, then smiled and asked, "What did you say?"

“Choose me, Fog.” He said slowly, his eyes burning. “Don’t choose him, choose me.”

"We'll see."

"Please."

"besides?"

"Can...am I allowed to touch you?"

The rustling of leaves around my ears grew louder, the wind tousled my hair, and the warmth of the wind touched my cheeks.

Xu Wu stared at him intently, then slowly reached out her hand.

Before her fingertips could even touch the person in front of her, her hand was gently lifted up by Jie Ying.

The next second, Xu Wu's pupils suddenly widened.

Jie Ying held her hands in his hands and brought them up in front of him. When he lowered his head, his long hair was blown by the wind and brushed against the skin on the back of her hand. A tingling, itchy sensation spread throughout his body.

He closed his eyes and placed a kiss on his lips.
