Chapter 22, Number 22. Do you like it?

Chapter 22, Number 22. Do you like it?

Touch...where

Xu Wu's head was stiff, and his peripheral vision unconsciously glanced down before quickly looking away as if he were doing something wrong. Only one thought immediately surfaced in his mind.

That's so strange.

She hadn't seen it in her dream, but she had vaguely sensed it.

...with your hands.

Xu Wu didn't dare to think any further. At this moment, she really wanted to slap herself. She should have just let Jie Ying die of pain instead of sending him medicine.

But then again, Xu Wu remembered the half of Jie Ying's face that she had seen when Jie Ying lifted her hair, and she had some doubts.

When did she become so strong? A slap like that could cause swelling to last until the next day.

We still lost out when we attacked Lin Huiqing back then.

"What are you thinking about, Wu?" A low, seductive voice entered Xu Wu's ears, bringing her back to her senses as she sensitively noticed the nerves in her ears trembling from the whisper and the warm breath.

She couldn't help but raise her hand to create distance between them, her eyes fixed on him with a warning: "Step back."

Jie Ying obediently took a step back, completely ignoring the fact that her back was already firmly pressed against the wall, the icy cold seeping into her skin through her thin outer garment.

Xu Wu lowered her gaze, pretending not to notice the adoration in his eyes and his desire to pull her into a private space called "desire".

She was familiar with that gaze; it haunted her like a ghost in her dreams, otherwise she wouldn't have suffered from insomnia.

"Come closer." She looked up, took a cotton swab from her pocket, took the ointment from Jie Ying's hand, unscrewed the cap and put it back in Jie Ying's palm, then squeezed some ointment onto the cotton swab.

She knew a hint of disappointment flashed across Jie Ying's eyes, but that had nothing to do with her. She was grateful to Jie Ying for applying the medicine to him.

Xu Wutu applied the cotton swab with light pressure, her expression serious as she carefully controlled the frequency of applying it to the same spot.

Jie Ying's cheek skin was incredibly soft; with just a little pressure, the cotton swab could leave a small indentation in her skin, allowing her to feel her teeth through the flesh.

"That's enough." Xu Wu stopped what she was doing. "Apply it once a day, and remember to do it yourself."

The ointment doesn't smell unpleasant; it has a strong, pleasant fragrance that you can smell even from a distance.

Jie Ying reached out and saw that Xu Wu's expression remained unchanged, so she boldly took the cotton swab from her hand. Her uneasy heart finally settled down after she clenched the cotton swab tightly.

"Will the fog remind me?" he asked softly, raising his eyes to look intently into the gaze of the girl standing opposite him. He saw his own cautious expression reflected in her dark, bright pupils.

"Don't push your luck." Xu Wu chuckled ambiguously. "If you don't apply it, you'll be swollen to death."

"Well, Fog hasn't answered my question from earlier yet."

What problem?

Upon hearing this, Jie Ying's smile widened, but unlike his previous repulsive demeanor, he was very restrained, almost as if he was trying to make himself look like a "normal person."

Xu Wu was stunned for a moment, her heart and fingers unconsciously clenched, and a subtle, fleeting infatuation, which she herself could not perceive, appeared in her eyes.

How could someone be so handsome? Even if you can't touch him, just looking at his face is a pleasure. Even if this person is a pervert, a madman, or a stalker, Xu Wu felt a secret joy, as if she had discovered a treasure that everyone else despised and considered worthless.

"Do you...do you like it?" Jie Ying asked in a low voice, "Your face."

It was as if in a dream that Xu Wu, with her dreamy eyes, would raise her hand to touch his cheek. It was the first time he had ever seen her show such infatuation.

Despite her soft sobs, she wrapped her arms around his neck, leaned in and kissed him lightly on the face several times.

Jie Ying's eyes were dark and unfathomable, but he still pretended to be calm and waited for Xu Wu's answer, even though his mind was filled with images unrelated to the present moment.

"...face," Xu Wu repeated his word softly.

He continued to smile, saying, "I like it."

"..." Xu Wu remained silent, glanced at him a few more times, and then turned and went downstairs without hesitation.

As Jie Ying watched her retreating figure, which seemed somewhat flustered and about to flee, his smile faded, and a dark look immediately settled in his eyes.

His face never seemed to have anything attractive about it; Xu Wu's gaze lingered on him less than that of the president of her club.

If he were even more handsome, would she keep paying attention to him forever?

He doesn't spare his gaze for anyone else; just give him a few extra glances.

It doesn't seem entirely impossible.

At least, Xu Wu did not deny it.

Jieying gripped the cotton swabs and ointment tightly in her hand. After applying the medicine to her face, she felt only coolness, which appropriately relieved the redness and swelling.

Xu Wu's blows didn't hurt much at the time, and the swelling subsided quickly, but it was the first time she had ever been willing to leave a mark on him.

I wish it could be preserved forever.

Xu Wu practically fled back to the classroom, her heart pounding like a frightened deer during a level 10 storm.

As Xu Wu turned the corner on the way downstairs, she almost bumped into Liu Tan, who suddenly appeared. Xu Wu stopped abruptly, her body lurching forward due to inertia, but thankfully she managed to grab the wall and pull herself back.

Liu Tan didn't seem to care at all, and said nonchalantly, "Running so fast, Xu Wu, you didn't even realize you bumped into someone."

"I bumped into you," Xu Wu sneered.

She thought it would be better to bump into a dog. Sometimes she really doubted whether Liu Tan was even human, otherwise how could he speak in a non-human voice all the time, which was hard to understand.

And that greasy, smoky smell that wafted from him from time to time, sometimes faint, sometimes strong, didn't stop Xu Wu from feeling nauseous. She really didn't understand if those people had blocked noses; how could they possibly fawn over someone like Liu Tan?

"That's almost it." Liu Tan gestured with his chin. "Xia Ni invited you over for dinner on Saturday."

He was almost half a head shorter than Xu Wu and had a slight hunchback. If he wanted to project an imposing image, he had to put his hands in his pockets, tilt his head back, and try his best to put on airs.

"It's none of your business." Xu Wu frowned, walking past him while dismissively saying, "Instead of asking all these questions, why don't you take some time to wash your greasy hair? Can't you even smell it yourself?"

Ignoring Liu Tan's colorful and varied expression, Xu Wu walked forward without looking back and entered the classroom through the back door.

Liu Tan rubbed his hair, then smelled it under his nose. His face was ashen, but he still spat in Xu Wu's direction.

The preparatory bell rang, and Liu Tan, muttering something about what he was dragging, walked straight towards the restroom. But after only two steps, he abruptly stopped and instantly turned to look behind him—

There was nothing there.

There was no one there; the corridor was empty.

But for some reason, he felt someone was watching him from behind. That gaze made him shudder, like a thorn in his back. The cold look made him straighten his back, feeling a chilling coldness.

That was undisguised malice.

Just like... last time someone deliberately splashed water on him.

Liu Tan comforted himself that it was daytime class time as he hurried toward the restroom.

In a corner he hadn't noticed, a shadow followed him in silently, without making a sound.

Shortly after, a scream pierced the silence and interrupted the class in the school building.

Xu Wu paused in copying her Chinese language notes. Soon, the classroom erupted in a cacophony of discussion because of the scream. The homeroom teacher clapped her hands to quiet them down and then went out to check on the situation.

The people sitting in front of Xu Wu started whispering among themselves.

"What's going on? Could it be Liu Tan? He lost her while going to the toilet."

"No way?"

"But you know what, the voices really do sound a bit alike."

Xu Wu frowned and subconsciously glanced in Jie Ying's direction, only to find that he was not in his place. Her brow twitched, and she had a vague premonition.

Before she could think about it, Jieying walked in from the back door, sat down, and her bangs covered her face, so no one noticed.

Perhaps Xu Wu's gaze was too obvious, for Jie Ying also noticed it. He stared intently at Xu Wu, his gaze incredibly captivating, completely ignoring the noise that was erupting in the classroom.

The two stared at each other for a while, but Xu Wu was the first to move away.

She didn't speak, nor did she ask Jieying what had happened.

The bell rang, but the homeroom teacher hadn't returned yet, so some curious onlookers went to the classroom closest to the restroom to inquire.

"It really is Liu Tan!" Someone ran back breathlessly to deliver the news.

Liu Tan was well-connected in the second year of high school; many students knew him, and even those who didn't know him personally recognized his face.

What's wrong with him?

"I heard from the class next door that someone splashed water into the toilet while they were using it, and they got soaked from head to toe."

"Ugh, I got splashed again."

"That's hilarious, the homeroom teacher went to check the surveillance footage."

Someone quipped, "But the security cameras in the restrooms have been broken for a week, haven't they?"

Upon hearing this, Xu Wu turned his gaze to Jie Ying, who remained composed.

So he really did go and do something bad; no wonder he came back so late.

The phone lying in the drawer vibrated twice. Xu Wu snapped out of her reverie, pulled it out, and glanced at it.

"Stalker: ^^"

Xu Wu raised an eyebrow and tapped the emoticon sent by the other party on the screen with her index fingernail.

"Five: He holds grudges."

Xu Wu reminded him that even if Liu Tan might not know who splashed him, he was a very petty and vengeful person.

Jie Ying's message quickly followed, asking a question completely unrelated to Xu Wu's words.

"Stalker: Is Fog happy?"

Was she happy? Xu Wu paused, then turned to look at Jie Ying—

He was replying to her messages with his head down, the few stray hairs on his head still standing stiffly upright, showing no intention of suppressing them.

"Stalker: Just remember to be happy ^_^"

He didn't care at all whether Liu Tan held a grudge or not, but whether he could make Xu Wu happy was something he cared about to die.

After a while, Xu Wu silently gripped her phone tightly.

She thought to herself that she now wanted to smooth out the few hairs on Jieying's head.

Author's Note: Xu Wu: Breathing

Jieying: Remarkable methods! ^_^

Haha, I recently saw this meme and it's quite funny. [cat emoji]
