Chapter 27 Numb.27 Freesia

Chapter 27 Numb.27 Freesia

Xu Wu clenched his fist involuntarily, his hand resting on the sofa. He watched helplessly as Jie Ying walked towards him, his black pupils reflecting Jie Ying's figure trembling involuntarily, causing the shadow in his eyes to sway as he watched the person gradually approach him.

With nowhere to hide behind her, she had no choice but to grit her teeth and move two steps to the right of the sofa. Her heart was pounding. The heat wave swept over her almost from head to toe, and her warm body temperature gradually climbed up, making her cheeks hot and giving her a blush on her fair face.

For the first time, Xu Wu hated that the house was too small. The cramped space and the intrusive atmosphere made her feel exposed. It was not something shameful, but for some reason, she didn't dare to look up at the person in front of her.

She licked her dry lips, and the moment she knew the other person would look at her because of her action, she withdrew her tongue.

“This kind of thing has nothing to do with you—” she asked, feigning anger.

But before he could utter the words "What does it matter?", he was suddenly choked up when he looked up impatiently and met Jie Ying's eyes. The words stuck in his throat and he swallowed them back silently.

Xu Wu's heart tightened.

Jie Ying did nothing, she simply stood quietly opposite her and looked into her eyes—

Perhaps it wasn't even eye contact; he was simply greedily scrutinizing Xu Wu's every expression and subtle movement. Under the light, the bangs hanging over his eyebrows cast shadows that almost blended into the upper half of his face.

Strangely enough, he really didn't do anything.

But Xu Wu couldn't bring herself to say it.

She opened her lips, waiting for the same sharp and sarcastic words as before to come out and accuse the person in front of her of overstepping his bounds.

But—unexpectedly quiet.

The entire room, and even the tiny distance between the two, was filled with the interplay of their breaths.

For a moment, Xu Wu caught a whiff of a scent mixed with freesia and other aromas. It wasn't exactly pleasant or unique, but it did trigger her sensitivity to smells and made her start to get addicted.

Jie Ying's gaze began to move downwards, following the slender swan neck to the collarbone hollow that was prominent due to the tension in her body.

A teenage girl's body is always beautiful, as if favored by the goddess Nuwa, outlining a shapely figure, and even the arched bones of her feet appear delicate.

A cushion came flying at Jie Ying, who couldn't dodge in time and was hit squarely. He instinctively reached out and caught it as it fell, holding it steadily in his arms, though he still looked a little dazed.

When I went to see Xu Wu, I found her with a cold face, gritting her teeth as she squeezed out the words: "If you look at me again, I'll use that stick on you."

She was referring to the stick she had originally intended to use to strike the middle-aged man, which was now lying at the entrance.

Jie Ying reluctantly withdrew her gaze, lowered her head, and looked away without saying a word.

Finally, they could speak properly. Xu Wu breathed a sigh of relief and asked him, "How long have you been following me?"

“This…this month,” he replied.

"...What about last month?"

“Thirty-one days,” he said in a muffled voice.

Xu Wu: "......."

Is this supposed to be a perfect attendance record?

"Wait a minute," Xu Wu asked tentatively, "Have you been following me ever since that person appeared?"

Jie Ying thought for a moment, then nodded and shook her head.

She didn't understand what "several meanings" meant.

"Even before it appeared..." Jie Ying whispered, then fell silent.

"......"

Xu Wu took a deep breath, restraining his clenched fist, and smiled: "Get out."

Jie Ying panicked, and when he looked up again, the door slammed shut in front of him with a bang. He was humiliated, and the loud slamming of the door made his heart skip a beat.

She was still angry.

Jie Ying sighed, pressing her forehead against the door in frustration.

I should have kept quiet.

Jie Ying gently patted the door, wanting to knock, but afraid that Xu Wu would hit him.

The next second, he suddenly felt a small, furry creature step on the back of his foot.

He opened his eyes with a sense of doubt and looked down. What came into view was a little tabby cat with its head tilted back, meowing at him. Its green eyes even smiled happily.

He recognized the kitten; he had seen Xu Wu feed it many times during the days he had been with her. Occasionally, he would wait until Xu Wu left before going over to leave some food for the little tabby cat.

Over time, the little tabby cat became familiar with him. Whether it was because he was attracted to the warmth Xu Wu left on the little tabby cat, or because this cat reminded him of the black cat he had when he was a child, it didn't matter.

Cute and fragile creatures always deserve a second glance.

Jie Ying wasn't surprised at all that the cat had found him, after all, the cat was very clever, and when it saw him earlier, it had been biting his trouser leg and trying to drag him here.

"Meow." The kitten tilted its head and flicked its tail.

Jieying crouched down, scratched its chin, and whispered, "You want to find her."

The kitten meowed even louder and wagged its tail happily.

"No." Jie Ying smiled slightly.

The kitten stopped wagging its tail and hissed at him.

“Because I also want to find her.” Jie Ying stood up, holding the little tabby cat in her arms, and adjusted it to a more comfortable position. She whispered, “She won’t like you because you’re so dirty.”

The kitten nestled in his arms, its ears twitching twice.

As the footsteps faded into the distance, Xu Wu, who was just a door away, finally felt relieved. When she heard the cat meowing, she almost impulsively went out, her hand already on the doorknob, but she managed to restrain herself.

Damn Jieying, why is she being so compassionate at a time like this?

Xu Wu mentally added another mark against him. After a while, she hesitated for a moment before moving on to the balcony. Just as she was getting close, she caught a glimpse of the figure downstairs.

Xu Wu paused, and then he saw Jie Ying, while holding the little tabby cat, wave her hand in her direction, grasping the little tabby cat's paw.

Little Tabby yawned, not caring how her hands were being positioned.

The streetlights were right behind Jie Ying, casting a halo around his face, making it blurry and impossible to see clearly.

Xu Wu took a step forward and then stopped.

The balcony door was opened slightly, and the slight evening breeze seemed to be on some command, eager to rush into the house. Jie Ying was facing away from the wind, her hair was blown loose and messy.

Xu Wu squinted, feeling the cool breeze brush past her ears and earlobes.

The wind that blew past Jieying also kissed her forehead.

They shared this breeze.

The green of the night is always so eye-catching. Xu Wu withdrew her gaze from the little tabby cat, then took a step back and drew the curtains in front of Jie Ying, completely cutting off the gazes that met in the air.

Even cats can choose weirdos.

Xu Wu's wish to adopt the little tabby cat after graduation was never mentioned again.

The next day was Friday, the day of the parents' meeting at No. 1 Middle School.

Some classes will notify parents of the time of the parent-teacher meeting separately, which may be at noon or in the afternoon, but most of them will be held at 9:00 am, and Class 4 is no exception.

For Xu Wu, these days were a time when he could occasionally be lazy and stay up late, which was no different from a holiday. In any case, he would just go through the motions and stay outside the classroom to watch anyway.

So when her alarm rang at 8:20, she slowly got up and went to the bathroom to wash up.

After washing her face with facial cleanser, while applying moisturizer in front of the mirror, she suddenly remembered something—

Jieying seems to be the same as her today.

The same...alone.

Xu Wu wiped her hands clean, and seeing that it was almost time, she tidied herself up and went downstairs to buy a two-yuan braised egg for breakfast. She ate it as she walked towards the bus stop.

When they arrived at the classroom, many parents had come with their children and were mostly chatting in the hallway.

Inside the classroom, the class monitor was still directing students who had nice handwriting to write a few words on the blackboard as decoration.

These scenes were never relevant to her. The seats in the classroom were for parents, and it wouldn't be appropriate for a student like her to sneak in. So she simply found a corner, stood there, and stared blankly downstairs.

When I woke up this morning, the weather forecast had a yellow thunderstorm warning. The weather is currently overcast and gloomy. The trees lined up downstairs are rustling softly in the wind, and the wind is also blowing her bangs across her forehead.

"Xu Wu." A female voice suddenly rang out from behind.

Xu Wu snapped out of her daze, turned around at the sound, and saw that it was the class monitor walking over, holding a piece of white chalk in his hand.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"Your handwriting on the blackboard is pretty good, why don't you go and save the day with the big characters in the middle?" The class monitor grinned and tried to shove the chalk into her hand.

Some people's handwriting on the blackboard is different from their regular handwriting; one looks better, but the other may not.

Xu Wu's handwriting was quite well-balanced; his blackboard writing was almost indistinguishable from regular handwriting.

Hearing this, Xu Wu thought for a moment and then took it, turning the end that the class monitor had been holding in the opposite direction.

The class monitor told her to come with him, but as soon as she turned around, Xu Wu called her back.

"What's wrong?"

"You know..." Xu Wu pursed her lips and asked, "Has Jie Ying arrived?"

It wasn't that she wanted to know, but Xu Wu was self-hypnotizing herself.

But today was just too strange. Normally, Jie Ying should have arrived long ago. The parent-teacher meeting was about to start in ten minutes, and she hadn't even seen him.

"Jie Ying?" The class monitor thought for a moment and said, "I think I saw him when I came in this morning, but I don't know where he is now. Oh well, it's okay, after all, his parents aren't coming, and he doesn't have to come to school today."

He waved his hand, meaning not to take it to heart.

This person is practically invisible.

Xu Wu's brow twitched. These words made it sound as if no one cared where Jie Ying went today.

She silently followed the class monitor into the classroom. After she finished writing, the parent-teacher meeting was about to begin. Parents came in one after another and sat down, while the students mostly stood in the corridor outside.

The homeroom teacher was on the podium, playing a PowerPoint presentation and explaining the difficulty level of the monthly exam to the parents, as well as an analysis of the upcoming situations. Although the teacher's voice was loud, Xu Wu, who was leaning against the low wall, couldn't hear a single word.

She was scrolling through her phone, and out of boredom, she clicked on her Moments. She stopped when she saw a post from the black cat avatar from the night before, and her body unconsciously straightened up a little.

Jie Ying posted a photo of the little tabby cat drinking water with its head down, taken from a top-down angle, where its green eyes were completely hidden.

However-

Xu Wu's gaze shifted to the black cat avatar that had been posted, and its green eyes stared directly at Xu Wu on the screen.

Before long, she seemed to smell a faint scent of freesia, but it wasn't from her.

Strangely, the smell grew stronger and stronger, spreading from afar and coming closer, right beside me.

Xu Wu turned his head—
