Chapter 66 Numb.66 She still likes him.

Chapter 66 Numb.66 She still likes him.

Jie Ying dared not look up at her, his palms sweating with nervousness. The city of Beijing was even colder as night fell, but his body temperature was gradually rising, and the blush on his ears showed no sign of fading.

He licked his lips helplessly, his pink tongue sticking out just a little to moisten his dry lips, only to realize later that Xu Wu couldn't see him because he was wearing a mask.

So he took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing his heart, which was pounding so hard it felt like it was about to burst out of his chest. He moved so fast that he no longer obeyed his commands and couldn't wait to throw himself into Xu Wu's arms.

"No, no..." Jie Ying whispered nervously, afraid that someone nearby might overhear their conversation.

He recalled his conversation with Cheng Jialuo in the school club. Before he realized it, he was already outside the theater where Xu Wu was. With a guilty conscience, he didn't have the courage to look her in the eye.

On one hand, she despised her heart for its infidelity, and on the other hand, she humbly wanted Xu Wu to see her heart, which was riddled with holes.

Jie Ying's breath, blocked by his mask, returned to his face, causing a slight mist. Strangely, even the only sweatshirt he was wearing couldn't block the rising heat within him, making him increasingly unbearable.

Xu Wu saw through his attempt to cover up his true intentions. A hint of a smile flashed in her eyes, but she quickly concealed it and said calmly, "Nothing?"

Jie Ying is beautiful in every way. Whether it's her ears that look like she's dying of shame, her watery eyes that are hiding from her in embarrassment, or her fingertips that are red from the cold wind and have a faint pink tinge, if she had a tail behind her, it would probably curl up unconsciously.

Xu Wu's throat bobbed involuntarily, and his gaze at the person in front of him grew increasingly deep, with an inscrutable infatuation surging in his eyes.

She was always cold-blooded, and her hands never got warm. When she touched Jie Ying's burning hot body, it would often make him tremble slightly, while his body temperature would linger on her cool fingertips.

It must be admitted that Jie Ying's red-rimmed eyes and soft, suppressed, hoarse groans were filled with a vicious desire to bite Xu Wu, as well as a kind of sadistic and destructive urge.

She still liked it when he looked at her like that.

"No, I didn't...do that." Jie Ying's voice trailed off, probably realizing that what she was saying wasn't very convincing.

After all, Xu Wu would always call him disgusting, so he didn't dare to do that.

Even when he missed her the most, he would just awkwardly deal with it himself and wouldn't dare to have any other thoughts about her photos—even though he was indeed going too far.

Xu Wu stared intently at Jie Ying's loosely clenched fist, his voice muffled due to the mask he was wearing.

For some reason, she felt disgusted when she ruthlessly exposed the fact that the photographer had used her photos for indescribable things in high school, but now, after hearing him personally deny that he had never done such a thing again, she actually felt—somewhat depressed.

Shouldn't someone like Jie Ying continue to do things in a hypocritical manner?

It's okay to keep doing it.

These were just thoughts in her mind. Xu Wu pursed her lips, said nothing, and lowered her eyes.

Two seconds later, she whispered, "Never mind."

There was a hint of defiance in his tone.

After all, she couldn't really hold a grudge against Jie Ying.

Before Jie Ying could react to the meaning of Xu Wu's words, she heard her ask again, "Are you going back by yourself, or are you coming with me?"

She tried her best to speak with a blank expression and no emotional fluctuations, but she couldn't resist the sudden brightness in Jie Ying's eyes, which made her already beautiful eyes even more alluring.

"I...I...I..." he began to stammer, speaking cautiously, "Is...is it okay?"

Holding the camera in both hands, he eagerly awaited Xu Wu's command.

Xu Wu licked her lips, feeling a tickle in her heart as she looked at his expression, which was exactly like a cat begging for petting, as if the tail behind him was wagging happily.

Two seconds later, she forced herself to come back to her senses and softly hummed in agreement.

The journey from the theater back to the neighborhood wasn't far, taking only about twenty minutes including the taxi ride. The car's heater was on full blast, but whether it was because she caught a chill from yesterday's rain or because the temperature change was too extreme today, Xu Wu sneezed two or three times in no time.

When she got off the bus and arrived home, her throat felt slightly numb and itchy, as if ants were nibbling at it, making it difficult for her to swallow.

Xu Wu lay on her side on the sofa with her eyes closed, taking a nap. She let the little tabby cat crawl on her body and knead her, meowing occasionally. She was too lazy to even chase it away. Her head was dizzy, and her throat felt like it was stuck, making it difficult to breathe.

Just as she was about to drift off to sleep, the little tabby cat let out a fierce meow and leaped off her lap with great force. The force of the leap made Xu Wu groggily open her eyes. In her blurry vision, Jie Ying was holding a glass of water and handing it to her.

"It's lukewarm, not very hot," he explained gently.

Xu Wu propped herself up and, after sitting down, reached out to take the water glass and took a small sip, letting the other person's hand touch her forehead.

The warmth of his palms quickly warmed her forehead, which had been chilled by the wind.

"Are you catching a cold?" Jie Ying looked down at her with concern as she held the water cup to warm herself, her cheeks flushed and her eyes watery as if she had a fever.

As he lowered his hand, his fingertips brushed against Xu Wu's slightly flushed cheek, silently stroking the spot he had touched, his narrow eyes filled with deep, dark ink.

"Maybe, it'll get better on its own in a few days after drinking some water." Xu Wu sniffed, clearly not taking it seriously, but her voice already had a slight nasal tone.

She hadn't taken off her coat yet, and the feeling of being immersed in Jieying's aura made her feel exceptionally comfortable, relaxing both her body and mind.

"Don't you have any cold medicine at home?" Jie Ying naturally noticed her curled-up movements. Her eyes darkened slightly, but she didn't pay attention to this small action. Taking medicine was more important at the moment.

Xu Wu took another sip of water and replied in a hoarse voice, "I don't like stockpiling medicine."

When she was a child, no one cared if she got sick, so she just toughed it out. The only person who would worry about her, her father, had already passed away. This also explains why Xu Wu doesn't like keeping medicine on hand; she can wait for minor illnesses like colds to heal on their own unless they're serious.

“If you don’t take your medicine, you’ll get a fever in the middle of the night,” Jie Ying walked up to her, took the cup from her hand, and placed it on the coffee table. It made a crisp sound when he touched it. He looked down and met Xu Wu’s gaze, who was staring blankly at him. He lowered his eyes and said, “Let’s go, I’ll take you to the hospital to get your medicine.”

Xu Wu groaned softly, looking uncomfortable, and slumped onto the sofa. Her disheveled hair concealed a slightly resistant expression on her face, and she mumbled, "I don't want to go..."

It's rare to see her act like a child. She even has a few tufts of hair sticking up on her head, and the childlike side she shows is completely different from her usual aloof demeanor.

Only he could see Xu Wu like this.

Realizing this, Jie Ying's eyes darkened, her expression becoming inscrutable.

Xu Wu was still struggling on the sofa, completely unaware of Jie Ying's expression, nor did she notice the barely perceptible glint in Jie Ying's eyes. His aggressive gaze swept over Xu Wu greedily, like a venomous snake, including her body covered by her clothes.

These were his clothes, which he wore for a day before Xu Wu took them away.

The clothes that had once covered his body were now wearing Xu Wu's clothes, still carrying his warmth and scent.

Realizing this, Jie Ying's breathing became rapid. She turned her head away in a very embarrassed manner to suppress her restless heartbeat and took a deep breath.

After standing there for a few more seconds, he carefully took out his phone. Only after he was sure that Xu Wu had calmed down did he open the camera and frantically press the shutter button on her with a blank expression, taking more than a dozen photos from each angle.

Jieying was still fascinated by the freshly taken photos in the album, her eyebrows showing a hint of joy.

Then a slightly hoarse voice came into my ears: "What are you doing?"

He froze, quickly hiding his phone behind his back. When he looked at Xu Wu, he found her squinting and looking in his direction.

Just as he was about to explain, he suddenly noticed that something was wrong with her; the blush on her face deepened.

Jie Ying stepped forward and touched her face with the back of his hand. The burning temperature made him look serious: "You have a fever, you need to go to the hospital."

Xu Wu followed his example and used the back of her hand to test the temperature of her forehead. After feeling the intense heat, she remained silent.

I haven't even had a chance to relax at home before I have to go out again. Luckily, the nearest hospital is not far from the community, only a seven or eight-minute walk away.

When Xu Wu's fever kicked in, she felt dizzy walking, and the rising body temperature even made her feel hot.

Fearing she might catch a cold or stumble and bump into something, Jieying had no choice but to hold her in his arms and let her walk on his own so she wouldn't fall.

He put his arm around her shoulder and couldn't help but think that she was too thin.

Unfortunately, when Xu Wu nestled in the crook of his neck, the loose strands of hair were still restless, with many strands scratching against his skin, bringing a slight, tingling itch mixed with the faint scent of freesia. It took Jie Ying several deep breaths to finally calm down.

Fortunately, there weren't many people at the hospital at this time of week. Jie Ying led Xu Wu to a chair and helped her register before returning. Seeing her with her head down and eyes closed, she still reached out and touched her forehead out of concern.

Walking along this road, I was met with a cold wind, and my hands, which were originally warm, were now icy cold.

Xu Wu opened her eyes, listless: "No matter how many times you test me, my fever won't go down."

"If only I had taken my medicine when I got back last night," Jie Ying said, pursing her lips in self-reproach.

Upon hearing this, Xu Wu's eyebrows twitched, and he said speechlessly, "Wouldn't it have been better if we hadn't gotten wet in the rain?"

As soon as he finished speaking, he saw the man in front of him looking downcast, his ears drooping as if they were growing out of his hair, giving him a pitiful and aggrieved look.

Xu Wu hesitated for a moment before swallowing back the words that were on the tip of her tongue, then said, "Come here."

Although her voice was still a little hoarse, it inexplicably sounded tender and affectionate.

Jieying's ears turned slightly red as she listened.

The next second, his hand was gently grasped by Xu Wu.
