Chapter 33

Chapter 33

"Why are you jealous when we have no official status? Do you even have the right? Stop pretending to be a domineering CEO!"

Yeah, yeah, you have absolutely no right!

Gu Mengzhu came over after using the restroom and saw that the little girl was very agitated. She asked in confusion:

"What are you muttering about?"

Xu Zhilu looked at her with a hint of sympathy. She felt a little strange but couldn't quite put her finger on it.

"Hehe, I'm reciting lines with them."

She glanced at the film crew performing enthusiastically next to her, then reached out and put her hand on the little girl's shoulder:

"You still want to be an actor?"

"Everyone needs to have some aspirations, otherwise they don't know how to live such a long life."

She nodded in agreement.

"Oh, right, sis!"

What does it feel like to like someone?

"What, you have someone you like?"

Gu Mengzhu asked in a gossipy tone.

"No, you said last time that since I really want to act, I could consider screenwriting! I was thinking, if I were to write a script, what exactly is love between men and women, and what should it be? I thought about it for a long time, but I couldn't figure it out."

"When it comes to liking someone, some people look at appearance, some look at material things, and some look at feelings. It's hard to say."

"Sis, are you looking at looks or feelings?"

She tilted her head back and thought for a moment:

"It depends more on the feeling. If the appearance is also excellent, that would be even better."

"I find it very difficult."

"Yes, it's really difficult. After all, you can't have your cake and eat it too."

Speaking of things she likes, a question came to mind.

"Xiao Zhi, can I ask you why you dislike Shi Gang? From what I've observed, he hasn't done anything outrageous."

Xu Zhilu's mood immediately plummeted, and she uttered a muffled sound:

"Sis, you don't know, it's cold now so you can't tell."

"What do you mean? If he bullies you, I'll help you yell at him, and I'll call Brother Lu too! I have a friend back in my hometown who's really good at yelling, I'll call her too, and we'll yell at him together!"

She was amused, chuckled, and waved her hand.

"It's not like that. Sigh, let me put it this way, when it was hot and we were wearing short sleeves, this guy kept wearing the same clothes as me. He's such a copycat! He wears whatever color I wear. He's crazy."

She grew angrier and angrier, wishing she had a fork in her hand to stab the person a couple of times. Gu Mengzhu's eyes darted around:

"What if it's just a coincidence?"

"I initially thought it was a coincidence, but then I bumped into him. I was wearing green, and he was wearing white. As soon as I saw him, he ran away, then changed back into green and started waving around in front of me. It was so annoying!"

"Maybe it's because he's lazy. And you're in the makeup and styling business, so you have the advantage of being close to him. Men, some of them don't wash their socks for more than half a month. You can't expect him to put any effort into his clothes."

"Really? He's so lazy! Damn it! Such a copycat! Such a despicable copycat!"

She scratched her head in despair, wanting to offer some words of comfort but unable to find the words to say.

I'm sorry, friend, I really can't help you. Your condition is like something out of a madman; I can't cure it. It's already a miracle they haven't called the police and arrested you!

Gu Mengzhu even couldn't help but wonder if she should stay away from Shi Gang. It didn't matter if he was stupid, but what if talking to him for too long infected her brain too?

Speak of the devil, and he appears. The little girl had barely left when the bear spirit came running over, beaming, asking what they were talking about and wanting him to hear it too.

Don't you think what you're doing is kind of perverted?

She held her arm with one hand and pinched her chin with the other, her eyes fixed on him as she asked.

"Really? Really?"

Shi Gang stammered and lowered his head, not daring to look at anyone.

"I don't know what you men think, but your behavior is very uncomfortable for us women, not to mention that you're so big, it would scare a girl like Xiaozhi even more. What are you thinking, copying other people's clothes and asking what they talk about? If you had just asked about their preferences, I wouldn't have thought you were so perverted."

"Yes, I'm sorry. I thought if I wore clothes of the same color, she would notice."

"They're afraid of you."

He looked up, his eyes instantly reddening. She was startled and regretted that Fang Gang had said such harsh words.

"Is she afraid of me? I'm sorry, I won't hang around in front of her anymore. I'm sorry."

Shi Gang reached out to wipe away his tears and turned to leave, but she quickly called out to him:

"I asked you to try a different approach, but you're acting like you're about to die."

"Besides, does it have to be Xiaozhi? Why don't you find someone else? I think Xiaozhi doesn't really have any ideas right now. You know she graduated less than a year ago, and she's exhausted from work, so she doesn't have the energy to think about these things."

"Stop crying. I won't feel sorry for you. Why are you crying here? If you're so capable, go to Xiaozhi and let her see you cry."

"I... I don't know how to pursue someone."

He stopped and sniffed.

"Then at least you should explain your strange behavior to her, so that she won't be scared anymore."

“I’m afraid that if I tell her, she’ll be even less willing to see me.”

Gu Mengzhu rolled her eyes and replied irritably:

"So you think they'd be willing to see you now? Think about it carefully, you idiot, you're making me so angry."

Not wanting to waste any more time with him, she turned and left. On the way, she pondered her words, filled with regret.

Damn it, Chen Luo's swearing skills have been passed on to her. These were the very words she'd once said to her while pointing her finger at her. Thinking about it, what she just said actually sounded quite adult-like. Sigh, she's an adult now, huh?

A breeze blew by, and the artificial peach branches used by the nearby film crew swayed vigorously at their tops, but not a single flower fell. She slowed her pace, and couldn't help but smile because she was thinking of someone.

Sister Chen, I suffered terribly under your tutelage, but now I've finally graduated.

She finished work relatively early today, and when Gu Mengzhu took her phone out of her bag, she realized it was almost nine o'clock. Even though it was night, it wasn't too cold anymore, and the stars hung in the night sky. She looked up, twisted her sore neck, and stared intently at the few stars.

The holidays are over, it's time to go back. Maybe someone is still thinking of her.

She turned around and found someone waiting for her. Gu Mengzhu awkwardly tugged at the hem of her down jacket and walked towards him.

"Don't wait for me, it's so cold. Go home after you're done working."

"I didn't wait long."

The man was holding a thermos cup, and when he saw her move, he followed her over.

"And it's not cold anymore. Look, isn't spring coming soon?"

She followed his fingertip and saw tender new buds on the branches. Although they were only a few, they were signs of warmth.

Yes, spring is coming.

Qi Yaoguang saw her tilting her head back, her smile blooming like a white mountain peach, and for a moment he even forgot to breathe. He handed her the thermos.

"Have some. I added some longan. It's been steeping for a few hours, so it shouldn't be too hot to drink. Drinking this will help you sleep better tonight."

"Thanks."

She opened the thermos and took a sip. It was sweet and warm, and even her head felt dizzy from the warmth. She closed the lid and was about to walk towards her rented room when he grabbed her arm.

"Let's go to the mall to eat, let's have hot pot, it's on me."

"Wow, that's a big spender. Do you have the money?"

"I just saved up three hundred dollars (I just made three hundred dollars)."

Wow! How come you know that?

Qi Yaoguang gave a smug smile, turned around and continued walking.

"Stop keeping me in suspense, just tell me!"

"You got a chance to say a couple of lines, how could you not make money?"

"Wow, that's great!" She slapped him hard on the shoulder. "You've got potential! You've got potential!"

"So, how was it? You got to have a scene where you showed your face and said your lines. How did it go?"

Gu Mengzhu walked beside him, holding a thermos, and asked him.

"Pleasant, very pleasant, feeling as if floating in the air."

"Wow, you can speak a few words of Chinese."

"Oh, thank you for acknowledging my kindness."

Don't you feel a huge gap between expectations and reality?

"Disparity?"

He stopped and turned around, puzzled by her question.

"Yes! Before, we were the leads, but now we have to fight for roles and shamelessly beg for them. Isn't that a tough life?"

People nearby darted back and forth like tadpoles, but they were the only ones facing each other, looking at each other as if time had stood still.

"What are you saying? What kind of life was that before?" He looked into her eyes, his gaze deep and heavy, as if he were about to sink into them. "This is what it means to be alive."

She hadn't expected this answer, and after a moment of surprise, she grinned:

“Yes.” She smiled so contentedly for the first time. “Living a life with your feet firmly on the ground is true living.”

Why do you keep asking the same question over and over again?

She clutched the thermos in her arms and thought for a moment. Perhaps, it was to confirm. After all, she had seen him bathed in starlight.

They enjoyed a big meal at the mall. Gu Mengzhu said she wanted to pack up the leftovers to take home and make a bone broth hot pot later. Seeing her clumsily carrying her bags, Qi Yaoguang grabbed the things from her hands without a word, leaving her with a deadpan back view.

"What! You were just feeling embarrassed."

She straightened her handbag and chased after him with a smile. They passed a square where many children were setting off the remaining sparklers.

"Still not enough? The other day it exploded so loudly, I said I'd buy you one to play with, but you didn't want it."

"No, someone is proposing."

She pointed to the area to her right, a space carpeted with flowers and red carpet. Candles flickered in the wind, yet stubbornly burned, like fragile fireflies. Red roses crowded the ground, yet swayed precariously in the wind; a few vibrant petals even drifted right up to them, prompting her to exclaim in surprise:

"Romance really does cost money."

Are you moved?

Gu Mengzhu shook her head; she couldn't feel moved. The thought of the venue and labor costs adding up to tens of thousands of yuan made her feel she'd never be able to afford such romance in her lifetime.

Why are you still like this?

Qi Yaoguang smiled helplessly.

"What do you mean? Just say it."

"He doesn't understand romance."

"Super." (Cut)
