Chapter 14: Water Covers the Earth
The feast is still going on.
The lady said she wanted to toast Mu Jin and asked Chai Che to toast him as well.
Chai Che was not polite at all. He picked up the wine and drank it all by himself without even looking at Mu Jin. He left the table with disdain without saying a word.
The lady said, "Don't worry about him, just let him go."
It seems that he doesn't like Master Mu Jin very much, Jiaoran thinks so.
The lady was the elder, so if she wanted to toast, Mu Jin had to stand up and receive the wine. So he stood up and said some auspicious words to show the younger generation's good behavior.
The young master's attitude towards the lady was also very gentle. He had a special elegance and quietness in him, but in this gentle attitude, there was a very strange kind of rejection.
A rejection that was perfunctory and dissatisfied.
Such a quiet and gentle young man is always so cold towards the elders.
It is also possible that he is no longer as lively as he used to be in front of his elders, so he has gradually become more mature.
Xiaoju couldn't help but ask, "Sir, do you need some hot tea?"
"It won't hurt to have some cold wine," said the young master.
Jiao Ran nodded, "It's only a small cup, it's hot before it even reaches my stomach."
Xiaoju couldn't help laughing. Jiaoran always said very humorous things.
The young master looked at Jiaoran, with an indescribable smile in his eyes.
The Governor's wife saw everything and kept silent.
The banquet was over, and Xiaoju and Jiaoran followed the young master back. He had drunk a few glasses of wine and was not very drunk, so Xiaoju had to support him as he walked.
Jiaoran was lighting a lantern nearby. "Can you see clearly?"
Xiaoju wanted to squat down and carry the young master on her back, but he refused. He said he could walk and told them not to worry.
Jiaoran also thought she was making a fuss. "It's not far. We can walk back in half an hour."
As soon as he finished speaking, the young man leaned on a stone bench and pretended to vomit in the grass. It seemed that he had drunk too much.
Xiao Ju was stunned for a moment, and after a moment she quickly asked, "Sir, how are you?"
There were stains on the elegant collar of her clothes. "Jiaoran, go back and get some tea for the young master."
She said, "I'm going now."
After the young master finished vomiting, he squatted quietly on the ground, watching Jiaoran's receding back without saying anything.
Xiaoju handed him the handkerchief, wondering what he was thinking.
Seeing Jiaoran hadn't come for a long time, Xiaoju was worried that something had happened, "Master, I'll go check..."
"No need. This is to teach her to be more cautious, so as not to cause trouble in the mansion in the future. After those unscrupulous people from the Chai family find out that she has no internal strength after testing her, they will not touch her."
Seeing that he had made his plan, Xiaoju said no more.
There was a bright half-moon in the sky. The mansion was so large that some lights were not on, and the shadows of trees, mountains, and people were unclear. Jiaoran finally found her way back to get a cup of tea when she heard someone calling her from behind.
She was holding a cup of tea when she heard a voice behind her. She was startled and turned around to see that it was one of the three young men.
She bowed respectfully and said, "I am Jiaoran, the maid, and I am honored to meet you, sir."
On second thought, could it be that he has something to tell me?
But she is not his maid, so let's see what he says, and just cover it up with earth.
"You have tea in your hand, what are you going to do?" Chai Hui tilted his head and twisted his neck.
Jiaoran heard him flex his fingers, making a crackling sound. She hesitated, worried that he was going to hit her.
"Oh, this? The young master is feeling unwell and is still far from Siyu Garden, so he sent a maid to fetch some tea."
"Let me see?" He stretched out his hand and tried to grab it hastily.
Jiaoran moved the cup away and not a drop of liquid spilled.
Worried he might do something, Jiaoran said, "It's just tea." She'd heard from a storyteller hired by the inn that the intrigues in such a secluded house were no less intense than those in the martial arts world. If Chai Hui had poisoned Mu Jin, and she'd been the one who brought her the tea, wouldn't she be held accountable?
"You are more agile than ordinary maids. Have you practiced martial arts?" He asked her with a smile.
Jiao Ran didn't dare to agree lightly, and quickly said no, "It's just that the young master I served before wielded swords and knives, so I have a little skill in avoiding them carefully."
He saw that she was staring at him straight without any fear at all, and thought that she had just arrived at the mansion not long ago.
Jiaoran's old habit came back. The more alert she was, the more she wanted to look directly at the other person, forgetting what Fenghuangchu told her.
Chai Hui nodded, "You're pretty good at dodging, aren't you?"
A palm strike came, and he said, "Let me see how capable you are."
Jiaoran didn't have much real kung fu, and the moves she used with the people in her sect were just for fun. "I don't dare."
While quickly dodging.
He protected the tea with both hands, and not a drop was spilled under the moonlight.
He had drunk quite a bit of wine, and his punches were not very accurate.
Fortunately, he is not an expert, she thought.
Unexpectedly, just as he thought this, the next moment, he smiled slightly, and suddenly hit Jiaoran on the forehead with a palm. With a whoosh of wind, Jiaoran's bangs and hair were blown into the air.
When Jiaoran saw his palm resting on his face, he thought he was kind-hearted. But when he looked carefully, he saw the hand on his arm.
It was Chai Lie who came and stopped his killing move in time.
Chai Hui's palm stopped two inches in front of Jiaoran's forehead. If he took one more step forward, he could hit her forehead bone directly and smash it to pieces.
Jiaoran took a step back in shock.
Chai Hui's hands were restrained and he lifted his feet. Before Jiaoran could react, the cup in his hand flew past him.
It fell to the ground with a crack and broke into pieces.
"Hey, if you can dodge it, why can't your tea dodge it?" he asked provocatively.
"You!!!" Under normal circumstances, she would have wrapped him in a sack and beaten him up, such a disgusting person.
She suppressed her temper and smiled, imitating Mu Jin's "loving and tolerant" tone, "It's okay. I can go make another cup. Don't worry, Third Young Master."
He was made uncomfortable by her fake smile and said, "Go away."
Jiaoran felt timid. Would she be allowed to leave just like that?
Fortunately, he didn't continue to torment her. She breathed a sigh of relief, bowed and left.
Chai Lie watched from the side. When Jiaoran left, the smile on his face disappeared. He let go of her hand and said, "Ahui, you are too reckless."
"If it weren't for me, how would you have tested Mu Jin's new maid?"
Chai Liedao said that he had a clever plan.
"Come on, little brother, this is the simplest method. You were watching from the side just now, but did you notice anything?"
"He has no lightness skills and his footwork is messy. He doesn't look like a martial artist." Chai Lie said.
Chai Hui was right. "When we fought just now, I found him to be nothing but a useless idiot, a mere show-off with fancy moves."
Chai Lie shook his head and said, "Mu Jin doesn't do things without reason. But we should not alert him for now and wait and see what he is up to. If we wait until his plan is complete, it will be even more difficult to stop him."
Chai Hui whistled softly, looking down on him and said, "He'll run away and be caught again, what can he achieve? Haha."
"Dad must have made some preparations, but it's not wise to underestimate Mu Jin."
Jiaoran handed the tea over and told the young master what had happened here.
Mu Jin quickly asked with concern, "Third brother's kung fu is fierce. How did you escape? Are you hurt?"
Jiao Ran patted her chest and said, "I am very smart. Don't worry. Besides, the eldest master was there and stopped him, so he didn't hurt me."
Mu Jin showed a look of surprise, "Really? Then I have to thank you very much, big brother. When I see him tomorrow, I will definitely thank him on your behalf."
He squatted on the ground and still looked pale. Jiaoran patted his back gently and said, "Young Master, drink quickly. After you finish, we will go back. It will be darker and the dew will be heavier. It will be bad if you get cold."
Xiaoju was observing Jiaoran from the side. Seeing that she didn't look depressed at all, she felt a little unhappy, but she was also glad that she was not injured by Chai Hui.
