Chapter 56: Birds in the South (Part 1)
"Fire!"
Flames flapped outside the window, and frightened horses scattered and neighed in the flames.
Mu Jin had just sat up when he was thrown to the ground by the violently shaking carriage. He quickly held onto the inside of the carriage to steady himself and heard the chaos outside.
He raised his eyes slightly, because he was keenly aware of a weight on the roof of the car.
It's him.
"Go away!" Mu Jin said.
Someone knocked twice on the roof of the car, slowly and calmly saying, "Come with me." The tone sounded like an order rather than a negotiation.
Mu Jin said, "I still have a lot of things to check, so I can't leave now."
Chai Che finally managed to disrupt the Huiying Gate. They set up camp there. Even if his martial arts skills were not weak, it would be difficult for him to defeat so many enemies at once, not to mention that Fenghuang Chu and Zhou Zhi were there to support them.
"I've already left you a chance. You didn't leave last time, and you're staying this time. I'm afraid you won't be able to leave in the future."
"If I can't leave, then I can't leave." Thinking of Jiaoran's disdainful look at him, Mu Jin felt a little depressed.
He sighed, "It's up to you, but Jiaoran has already gone to the Governor's Mansion."
"What did you say!" She had already escaped, so why did she go to the Governor's Mansion?
Mu Jin was extremely anxious and immediately understood, "What did you say to her?"
Cha Che pulled him out of the carriage. Now the two of them were trapped among the Huiying Sect disciples and the fire. The crimson flames illuminated their faces.
"Don't worry about what I said to her, just deal with the present."
Mu Jin knew that the Phoenix Chick was seriously injured and could not recover for a while. Zhou Zhi and Huiying Gate would have many loopholes. It was the best time for Chai Che to rescue him.
Zhou Zhi had slowly come over. Ever since leaving Huiying Inn, she had been restoring the inner strength of the sleeping Phoenix Young Guardian, working day and night. Chai Che's disruption was giving her a headache. She stared at Mu Jin and asked word by word, "Are you trying to escape?"
Mu Jin nodded.
"Isn't my mother good to you? For you, I can even kill Jiaoran."
"I never asked you to kill her."
She hissed, "Aniang has already lost Jiaoran, and now you want to leave too?"
Seeing her hypocritical behavior, Chai Che sneered, "As his mother, you were absent for a full nineteen years. Now that he has grown up, you want to find him back. Isn't that ridiculous?"
Zhou Zhi said sternly, "I'm talking to my son, what does it have to do with you?"
She stepped forward and suddenly attacked, aiming a palm strike at Chai Che's scapula. However, before she reached him, Chai Che blocked the attack. He dodged and exchanged palm strikes with Zhou Zhi.
In this battle, the two men changed their moves quickly, and their palm winds were strong and swift.
Zhou Zhi fought him on equal terms, "You, the descendant of the Chai family, are quite capable!"
As soon as she uttered these words, she had already thrown several punches.
Zhou Zhi's martial arts are mainly light and agile, and his moves change so quickly that it is difficult to resist.
But it was Chai Che who entangled her. He rose up and entangled her like a wisp of smoke.
Mu Jin glanced at Chai Che and knew that he was buying time for him.
With a "clang" sound, a dart shot out and hit the shaft of the carriage behind Chai Che, startling the horse and making it raise its hooves and neigh again.
Mu Jin flipped in the air with incredible speed. He had no desire to fight and just wanted to escape. He fled back and forth among the many disciples of Huiyingmen. They did not dare to kill him. After all, he was Zhou Zhi's biological son, and no one in Huiyingmen dared to really hurt him.
It was because of this thought that Mu Jin disappeared into the mountains and forests in a short while, and soon his figure could no longer be seen.
When Chai Che saw him escaping, he jumped up and soon disappeared.
The other disciples caught up and were about to chase after him, but were stopped by Zhou Zhi and stopped chasing.
She sighed. "The child is older now, and it's hard to control him. I know where he's going, so there's no need to chase him."
Chai Che followed him and the two met up. Mu Jin had a serious expression and said nothing.
"You've finally improved your skills. You're much faster than before."
Mu Jin still remained silent.
Chai Che continued, "Jiao Ran hurt you before, how are you doing now?"
He glanced at Cha Che and said calmly, "Very good, I won't die."
"I saved you again, and instead of thanking you, you hold a grudge against me?"
Mu Jin's gaze shifted into the darkness of the night, "You told Jiao Ran!"
"say what?"
"If you don't tell her my speculation, how can she return to the Governor's Mansion?"
Chai Che estimated the time. "From here, you'll get back to the Governor's Mansion faster than she does. I've already told her that her biological mother is inextricably linked to Gao Shan Shou. If you return after her, she'll run amok in the Governor's Mansion, causing some kind of chaos. No one knows how it will end. It's better to go back early and help her clean up the mess."
Mu Jin looked at him coldly, her heart as clear as a mirror. "After I left, you let Jiao Ran go. Uncle probably won't live much longer. Without my blood to keep him alive, is he still healthy now?"
Chai Che was not angry when his thoughts were exposed. "Of course, I want to take you back. Dad doesn't have much time left."
"The divine stone shifted, and Jiaoran lost a lot of blood. I left after that. I'm sure you'd guess that Jiaoran's blood could also awaken the blood vessel, but you still let her go. Why? Have you finally felt compassion?"
"Given my character, you'll realize it's definitely not the case. I let her go only for the sake of long-term considerations."
"How do you say that?"
"Imprisoning her temporarily can certainly alleviate my father's urgent needs, but she's never endured the torture of having her blood drawn. I'm worried she won't survive a year and will commit suicide. You, on the other hand, have endured those sufferings step by step since childhood and are accustomed to the pain. If I let her go, she'll be my blood reservoir in the future, useful in critical moments. Furthermore, if she's alive, I can lure you back. I just need to find you as soon as possible."
Mu Jin stared at him intently. His expression, which revealed no trace of conspiracy, really disgusted him. "Second brother, you are still as inhumane as you were when you were little."
"Excuse me, are you willing to go back? Well, even if you don't go back, Jiaoran has already rushed to the Governor's Mansion. No matter which of you goes back, my goal will be achieved."
Seeing that he was walking faster, Chai Che followed him leisurely with his hands behind his back.
It seems that there has not been any major change in Yuyuan. After the owner left, nothing seemed to have changed. Even the stone path that Cheng Yuan insisted on digging up has been paved back to its original state.
Time has stopped here.
Chai Che took him back to the courtyard. He lifted the brim of his hat, revealing a face as gentle as jade. "I will go to see my uncle tomorrow. You go back first."
"Okay, then you should rest early."
Cha Che remembered something and said, "Oh, your wife is still here. She didn't run away."
"I know." Mu Jin said.
"Lord Cheng was unfortunately killed at your wedding. After you left, many people in the mansion spread rumors that you were dead, and she became a widow."
Mu Jin said, "Well, I'll see what happens."
There are two figures in the red tent.
Mu Jin landed almost silently, walked through the window, and came to the bedside.
The man on the bed was shirtless. When he looked up, his eyes were full of shock. Cheng Yuan's delicate body was wrapped in the brocade quilt. He held a strand of Cheng Yuan's black hair.
Mu Jin stood there quietly, like a decoration in the dark night in the room, watching them with his sadness and joy hidden.
