Final Exam
Outside the window, the world was covered in ice and snow. Snowflakes fell one by one, and some of them stuck to the window and melted into icy streaks that dripped down, covering the windowsill with a thin layer of white.
"It's snowing." Liu Xirou stood by the window, looking at the children building a snowman downstairs. Looking at their innocent faces, she couldn't help but smile slightly.
Qu Qinghe brought out freshly cut fruit and said with a smile, "A timely snowfall promises a bumper harvest; it's a good sign."
Liu Xirou's condition has stabilized, and her wounds are healing quickly. Qu Qinghe and Liu Yang both wanted to take her back to City C to recuperate for a while, but she refused.
After a moment of silence, Liu Xirou said, "I still want to stay in S City."
Her attachment to S City made them even more worried. After discussing it privately for a while, Qu Qinghe said, "Xirou, let's move to the United States, okay? There are four distinct seasons there, which you like the most, don't you? It's also a great place to study. Some of the top-ranked schools in the QS World University Rankings are in the United States."
Qu Qinghe's anxious gaze made Liu Xirou realize that she had really worried her parents too much. She went over and took her mother's hand, "Let me think about it. At least let's finish this semester here, okay?"
Qu Qinghe knew she couldn't push her too hard, so she nodded and said, "Okay, your dad and I will stay with you in S City for a while. You won't need to stay in the dormitory anymore. The three of us will live in Jinxiu Mansion next to the school."
Liu Xirou smiled and said, "I can eat your and Dad's cooking more often again."
Qu Qinghe patted her head affectionately, "We'll cook for you every day from now on."
Two weeks later, Liu Xirou returned to school. Her classmates prepared a small welcome party for her. Her portrait was drawn on the blackboard at the back, and her classmates' blessings were written on the smart computer screen in front of her. Her seat was also filled with gifts and greeting cards.
"She's coming up! Xirou's coming up!" Wen Yan saw Liu Xirou's head in the stairwell and quickly ran back to the classroom, picking up the prepared ribbon sticks.
Several people hid behind the classroom door, feeling both nervous and excited. As the door was pushed open, their joy reached its peak.
"Boom!" Countless colorful ribbons soared into the air and then drifted down. Liu Xirou looked at the fluttering ribbons, feeling both excited and surprised.
The students clapped and cheered, "Xirou, welcome back!"
When Liu Xirou saw them again after many days, her eyes filled with tears. Looking at their smiling faces, she felt especially warm inside. "Thank you everyone, I don't know what to say."
Wen Yan pulled her in, saying, "Your classmates really missed you. Your return is already a great token of our gratitude."
"Yes, welcome back."
"Welcome, Liu!"
"Welcome, Xirou!"
Long Chen handed her a tissue, and Liu Xirou wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, smiling brightly. "This is the last time I'm thanking everyone for the gifts. I missed you all very much, and I'm so happy to be back in Class 1!"
Another cheer erupted in the class, and everyone's face was beaming with smiles.
After reading the greeting card, Liu Xirou carefully put away all the gifts. Wen Yan gave her a large box, and several people stood beside her seat to help her pack them up.
Liu Xirou was about to say something when Wen Yan interrupted her, laughing, "Alright, stop thanking us. If you really want to thank us, just bake us some cookies."
"I haven't had your cooking in so long, I really want to eat it."
The three women who were tidying up looked up at the same time. "I want to eat too!" In the past, they were too embarrassed to get close to Liu Xirou because of their own feelings and pride. But after going through that experience together, their friendship slowly grew.
Liu Xirou smiled and said, "I'll grill some when I get back tonight, and everyone will get some."
Wen Yan was a little worried, "Won't it take a long time to bake? You should take a break."
Liu Xirou: "Don't worry, my parents will help, it will be quick."
After sorting through the gifts, Wen Yan rested her head on her hand and fell into deep thought.
Ji Weixuan has also woken up and is now being held in a sanatorium. He has offended too many people, and without Long Lingtian's approval, he probably won't be able to get out for the rest of his life.
But he is the mafia boss of Y country. Not to mention that his father is still alive and able to move and jump, and will send someone to rescue him soon, and given Ji Weixuan's crazy and obsessive personality, would he really stay obediently in the sanatorium?
The answer is no.
Moreover, as long as Ji Weixuan remains a threat, the mission will never end.
Back home, Wen Yan playfully pestered Wen Ling, "Brother, have you been busy with work lately?"
Wen Ling glanced sideways at him, "Speak, what are you planning to do now?"
Wen Yan massaged his shoulders and back, "It's nothing, I just wanted to ask how Ji Weixuan is doing? I heard he was locked up in a sanatorium after he woke up."
"Hmm." Wen Ling took a sip of tea and said leisurely, "I've already sent people to keep an eye on him."
Wen Yan paused slightly, "Are there family members in the sanatorium too?"
Wen Ling: "His attending physician was someone I specifically sent."
A week later, as the final exams approached, Wen Yan looked at the worried expressions on the faces of some of her classmates and felt as if she had returned to her old high school.
Mosa sighed as well. She didn't plan to go abroad, but if she wanted to get into university through connections, her grades couldn't be too bad, especially since her parents required her to be in the top 20 of her class at the end of the semester. But she spent all her time playing on her phone in class, and it was obvious to anyone that this was impossible.
She got a headache just looking at the dense text in the book, so she closed it again and said in a sad voice, "Maybe I should find someone to take the exam for me."
Wen Yan sat down next to her. "Are you planning to hire someone to take the college entrance exam for you? Open your book and copy it a few times, then you'll be able to concentrate."
"Borrow a notebook from a classmate who is good at studying, review it several times, and passing the exam won't be a problem."
Mosa's head throbbed even more. "But my goal isn't just to pass!"
Wen Yan said helplessly, "How many days are left until the final exam? Do you think you can become fat in one bite? You'll be lucky if you just pass. Your parents say they want you to be in the top 20, but actually they'll be happy if you make even a little progress."
“That’s true.” Mosa’s eyes lit up with joy. “But Yan, how do you know so much about parents?”
Wen Yan paused, then laughed and said, "That's just like my brother."
Mosa nodded and left her seat to borrow notes from a classmate.
When I was in high school, I often heard my classmates complaining with long faces about how strict their families were with them, but after their grades came out, they would smile and say that their parents would reward them as long as they made even a little progress.
Wen Yan was so envious back then. Now he has everything he once dreamed of, but when he thinks back on the past, he still feels a bittersweet feeling.
Wen Yan's gaze was lost and aimless as she looked out the window, her mind wandering until she didn't even notice Su Jibai sitting down next to her.
Su Jibai asked softly, "What are you thinking about?"
The faint sadness in Wen Yan's eyes vanished instantly. "I was thinking about things from the past."
Su Jibai understood that he was referring to what happened in his original world. "What was your life like before?" In fact, he had wanted to ask this for a long time. He wanted to know more about Wenyan, but when he recalled what Wenyan had said during the camping trip and his hesitant manner while playing games, he kept it to himself, afraid of stirring up his sad memories.
“I was originally an orphan, but I was adopted by my parents. A few years later, my family went through some changes, and I worked part-time to study until I got to university.” Wen Yan smiled. “But before I even started university, I was teleported here by the system.”
Looking at his feigned ease, Su Jibai felt a sharp, stabbing pain in his heart. He couldn't help but touch Wen Yan's face, "I will always be with you from now on."
Those pale eyes were full of heartache and affection. Wen Yan held his hand and suddenly smiled, "Why do you look more upset than me? I've already moved on from the past, but it still hurts a little when I think about it sometimes."
“Now I have you, a loving family, and a group of good friends. I really feel very happy.” Wen Yan’s eyes sparkled with a bright light. “Really.”
Su Jibai's eyelashes trembled, and just as she was about to say something, a voice from the side interrupted the romantic atmosphere.
Lin Pianyue, holding a thick stack of notes, pulled out one hand and made a "please" gesture, saying to the two who had taken over her place, "Please go to the balcony to talk about your love. We need to start reviewing now."
In order to get good grades, Mo, Sang, and Lin stopped going out for walks and meals, and devoted themselves to studying every day.
Even the usually active Lin Chia-peng calmed down and started studying. His family demanded that he rank in the top ten of his grade, or they would send him back to study in the United States immediately.
Although he plans to return to the United States after finishing this semester, he'd probably get beaten up if he said it out loud.
Wen Yan happily lingered around them every day.
Sanno looked up, her dark circles a testament to her efforts. "You're making my head hurt."
Wen Yan chuckled, "If you were really focused, you wouldn't notice me."
Sanno lowered his head and continued memorizing the notes Liu Xirou had given him. After a few minutes, he looked up again and said, "I really envy you. Your family doesn't have any demands on you."
Wen Yan chewed on an apple, "Yes, my brother made sure I couldn't get the lowest score on the test."
Lin Pianyue's eyes widened. "That's it? I couldn't even get the lowest score with my eyes closed!"
Wen Yan shrugged, indicating that his family's expectations of him were that low.
The three of them buried themselves in their studies again. After Wenyan finished the last bite of her apple, she continued to bother the next person.
He placed his hands on Su Jibai's shoulders and leaned down. There was an extracurricular book on his desk. "Aren't you going to study? I remember Uncle Su had high expectations for you."
Su Jibai smiled and said, "I never review."
Wen Yan raised an eyebrow. Long Aotian was one thing, but was the second male lead also this overpowered?
He casually tested Su Jibai with a few chemical and physical formulas, which Su Jibai answered quickly and accurately. Wen Yan was not satisfied, so he took a physics test paper from Liu Xirou and made him do the last three big questions.
Half an hour later, Wen Yan checked the answers against his completed test paper one by one, and yes, he hadn't missed a single point.
Su Jibai closed the pen cap and laughed, "Bored?"
"Yes, they're all busy studying." Wen Yan hugged his neck from behind and casually ruffled his hair.
Su Jibai pushed his book to the middle.
Long Chen looked over in confusion.
Su Jibai smiled slightly, "Aren't you going to study with Liu?"
Long Chen: "..." What a joke! He never studies either. He's clearly just an eyesore and made up an excuse to get rid of him.
However, being able to sit next to Xi Rou... Long Chen hesitated for only a few seconds before picking up his book, revealing a smile, and sitting down next to Liu Xi Rou.
Wen Yan sat down with a look of excitement and read extracurricular books with Su Jibai.
Liu Xirou smiled at him and then continued to lower her head to study diligently.
Long Chen propped his head up and secretly glanced at Liu Xirou. He remembered the day Liu Yang and Qu Qinghe talked about immigrating to a foreign country. Long Chen felt a pang of sadness and looked at her, wanting to say something but holding back.
Liu Xirou smiled helplessly and turned her head away. "Achen, what do you want to talk to me about?"
“I wanted to say…” Long Chen thought for a moment, but decided not to ask. He would wait until Liu Xirou made her decision before telling him. Perhaps Liu Xirou would not be harmed if she lived abroad. “It’s nothing.”
Liu Xirou knew what he wanted to ask just by looking at him. "I don't plan to go abroad. I will slowly persuade my parents."
Long Chen exclaimed in surprise, "Really?!"
Realizing his smile was too bright, he composed himself. "That's good."
Liu Xirou's hair fell loose on one side, just enough to cover her smiling eyes.
