The gaze from my brother
In the car, Wen Ling closed his eyes to rest, while Wen Yan, having slept well last night, was very alert. He had just seen how easily Wen Ling handled the staged accident, and he remembered what Su Jibai had told him about his brother tripping up Ji Huaixuan. His curiosity burned like a raging fire.
He stared intently at his brother, whose eyes were tightly closed.
Wen Ling's eyebrows twitched slightly, and he opened his eyes. "Ask whatever you want."
Wen Yan chuckled and said, "Brother, you really know me inside and out."
Wen Ling looked at Wen Yan as if he were a fool. Is that how you describe a brother?
Wenyan asked, "Brother, I heard you tripped up Ji Huaixuan. What did you do to him?"
That sounds a bit strange. Wen Ling frowned slightly, then relaxed. She decided to satisfy her silly little brother's curiosity first.
“His bodyguard company is riddled with problems. Several of the foreign bodyguards were smuggled in, their identities were all fraudulent, and their salaries were paid through private accounts.” Wen Ling smiled and said, “I just reported them directly to the police and the tax bureau.”
Wen Yan stared at him and said, "Brother, you're amazing." This whole thing will keep Ji Huaixuan busy for a while.
The car stopped, and Wenling patted Wenyan's head. "You stay in the car, we'll go back to the company in a bit."
Wen Yan originally wanted to go to the construction site to take a look, but after hearing Wen Ling's words, he immediately gave up the idea. There were many safety hazards at the construction site, so it was better not to let Wen Ling worry about him all the time.
Although Wen Ling complained, he could feel that Wen Ling's eyes were practically glued to him, constantly watching his every move.
Wen Ling and her assistant put on the hard hats handed to them by the foreman and went into the building.
When they returned, they were covered in dust, with a thin layer of ash on their faces, clothes, and shoes.
Wen Yan pulled two towels from the bag behind the seat. "Brother, Assistant Yao, wipe yourselves down."
"Thank you, Mr. Wen." Assistant Yao smiled as she accepted the towel.
Wen Ling looked at Wen Yan with a half-smile.
Wen Yan spread her hands, indicating that she hadn't told her to call her that.
"Drink some water." Wen Yan took out two more bottles of water.
Assistant Yao smiled and said, "Mr. Wen is so thoughtful."
Wen Ling thought to herself: This is indeed an advantage.
Noticing that Wenling seemed to be smiling, Wenyan pressed her advantage and asked, "Brother, when do we get off work?"
Wenling: "Want to go out and play?"
Wenyan said, "I wanted to take you out to play."
Assistant Yao looked at the rearview mirror with curiosity, thinking that Wen Ling only knew how to work.
"oh?"
Gently patting Wenling's shoulder, Wenyan said, "Look, you haven't been out to play in so long. I go out to play every day. I only want to take you out because I feel sorry for you."
Wen Ling found it amusing, "Then I should thank you?"
Wenyan said, "Thank you for yourself. I only have the chance to play because of you, my good brother."
Wen Ling's eyes softened, and the corners of her mouth turned up. "At least you have a conscience."
"I get off work at five o'clock."
"Yay!" Wen Yan cheered.
Assistant Yao, sitting in the front, was also very excited. The boss was off work, so she didn't have to go to work either!
Wen Ling took in his little expression. "So, in the end, you just want to go have fun, right?"
"No way." Wen Yan put away her arrogant smile.
The sky was crystal clear, a pure, unblemished blue. Seagulls spread their snow-white wings and flew towards the horizon. The azure waves rose and fell gently, bringing a chilling cold.
Wenyan and Wenling stood on the reef, quietly admiring the winter sea.
In winter, the sun sets quickly, and soon a pale gold color covers half the sea, with waves lapping up and carrying tiny golden sparkles.
The biting wind blew against Wen Ling's face, but he didn't flinch. He counted the days and realized it had been almost two years since he had leisurely seen the sea.
After graduating from university, he officially took over the Wen family business. He had little time to rest throughout the year and also had to find time to discipline Wen Yan.
Wen Yan used to drive him crazy, but now she's more sensible and knows how to care for her family.
He didn't come to his senses until the person next to him huddled inside his collar. "Let's go."
Inside the dessert shop, the heating was on full blast, and the air was filled with a sweet aroma. The table was piled high with desserts, and Wen Yanhu was stuffing herself, her mouth constantly moving.
Wen Yan said, "Eat up, brother, it's on me."
Ling took a leisurely sip of her salty mocha. "So hungry?"
"Of course I'm hungry after a long day." Wen Yan took the last bite of cake, then frowned. "It's greasy, and I feel a bit nauseous."
The next second, he picked up the lemon tea beside him, drank half a cup, and said, "Ouch, my stomach feels so cold."
As Ling slowly ate her soufflé, she said, "You'll definitely get diarrhea when you get back."
Wen Yan said, "It's alright, we have medicine at home."
"Hmm," Wen Ling said after finishing her piece of cake, "it tastes good."
“I wanted to bring you here last time we ate here.” Wen Yan squinted, reminiscing about the delicious food they had that night, which included not only desserts but also barbecue.
Wenyan said, "Let's go eat barbecue later. The barbecue place next door is super delicious."
"Can you still eat?" Wen Ling picked up a tissue to wipe her mouth.
Wen Yan waved her hand, "This is all there is, not even enough to whet my appetite."
Wen Ling nodded, then suddenly asked, "What's going on between you and Su Jibai?"
The topic changed so suddenly!
Wen Yan's face turned red, then white, then red again; Wen Ling could almost see the heat rising from his face.
Wen Ling sighed inwardly, "A son is too old to stay at home."
He smiled and said, "You're in a relationship? What's there to be embarrassed about?"
In Wen Yan's eyes, Wen Ling is his parent, and she accidentally stumbled upon his relationship with Su Jibai, so of course she would feel awkward in front of him.
After a long while, Wenyan responded with a sound as faint as a mosquito's buzz.
Wen Ling rubbed his head, trying to make him relax. "I didn't object to your liking for Long Chen before, but I didn't support it either. The two of you didn't get along."
"Being with Su Jibai is actually quite good. He has a good temper, and the two of you can get along well. If you two break up in the future, I can even help you get back at him."
Wen Yan had witnessed Wen Ling's ruthless methods; if Su Jibai fell into his hands...
Wen Yan was amused and said, "Thank you, brother."
The classroom was unusually noisy today, with the boys and girls' eyes sparkling with excitement because there was a dance party before New Year's Day, and everyone was thinking about how to invite their favorite dance partner.
Mosa and Lin Pianyue looked worried and said, "Where are we going to find a handsome guy?!"
Wen Yan took a bite of the potato chip that Liu Xirou fed her, "The school doesn't have any rules, you can try looking for students from other schools."
“Great idea!” Mosa exclaimed excitedly. “I can have my brother as my dance partner.”
Lin Pianyue thought for a long time, then said, "I think I'll contact my ex-boyfriend." She then picked up her phone and typed a message quickly.
The next second, her ex-boyfriend from the next class appeared at the door with lightning speed, gazing at Lin Pianyue with affection.
As for Wen Yan, he's already tied to Su Jibai.
The three turned their gaze to Sanno. "And you?"
A hint of shyness appeared in Sanno's eyes. "He's from the class next door too."
Wen Yan suddenly had a flash of inspiration, "Could it be Ke Shuyao?"
Sanno smiled shyly, "Yes."
"What?!" Lin Pianyue and Mo Sha cupped her face in their hands. "Didn't you say he was annoying?"
Sanno tapped his finger, "You start to like something after you start to hate it."
Lin Pianyue mimicked Sang Nuo's tone and said sarcastically, "What kind of stupid woman would like a narcissist like Ke Shuyao?"
Mosa pointed at Sannoh, "There's a silly woman here."
Wen Yan was crunching on potato chips when Lin Jiapeng suddenly appeared out of nowhere. "Wen Yan, can I invite you to dance the opening dance?"
Wen Yan said, "You should find someone else. I promised to jump with Su Jibai."
Lin Jiapeng gave a knowing smile, blinking his dark, lustrous eyes. "What about the last dance? The ball is so long, you don't have a boyfriend and won't even spare me a moment, do you?"
Wen Yan thought about it and realized that he had probably danced with Su Jibai throughout the entire ball, so it didn't seem to matter much if he danced the last dance with Lin Jiapeng.
He only knew the importance of the first dance, but not the significance of the last dance.
"Okay," Wen Yan agreed.
"Then it's settled." Lin Jiapeng turned around with a smile, but his eyes grew even more profound.
The light from the crystal chandelier filled the entire hall, red velvet covered the walls, and a faint aroma of wine filled the air. The slowly playing music announced the start of the ball.
Wen Yan was wearing a light blue suit with a pure white shirt underneath, the buttons undone, revealing her delicate and fair collarbone, and a silver butterfly brooch on her chest that seemed ready to take flight.
Shaking the wine glass in her hand, Wen Yan looked confused. The ball was about to start, so why hadn't Su Jibai arrived yet?
The lights suddenly went out, leaving only the dance floor shining brightly as young men and women in formal attire gracefully entered, their faces adorned with subtle yet sweet smiles.
"Young master, may I invite you to dance the opening dance?"
Su Jibai was dressed in a white suit, but the pocket square on his chest had been replaced with a champagne rose. The ivory-white buttons shone with a pearl-like luster. He bowed, and every movement was an elegant arc. Even his hairstyle was meticulously designed.
He removed the champagne rose from his chest, and his handsome, refined face took on a more alluring quality in the dim light.
Wen Yan raised his head, his long neck as elegant as a swan's. He placed the rose in the brooch and stretched out his hand, "If you had been a few seconds later, I wouldn't have waited for you."
"I'm sorry, my young master." Su Jibai's eyes and brows held a faint smile. He gently kissed Wen Yan's fair hand, straightened up, and led him into the room.
As the music played, their dance steps became increasingly fluid and synchronized, their eyes filled with intense affection as they gently licked each other's faces.
Su Jibai lowered his eyes slightly, his tender gaze fixed on Wen Yan's face. Wen Yan did not look away at him, her beautiful eyes blinking and a smile spreading across her lips.
As the music neared its final movement, the lighting became dim and ambiguous. Couples on the dance floor drew closer and closer until they merged together.
After a deep kiss, the lights came on, and the two reluctantly left the dance floor.
In preparation for tonight's dance, Wen Yan specially hired a teacher to learn dance etiquette and practiced diligently every night. The results were good, and Wen Yan was very satisfied with his dance steps tonight, but he felt sorry for the dance teacher who was stepped on dozens of times by him every night.
