After a delicious lunch, we started chatting again, about everything under the sun, from politics and history to humanities and geography.
Zhou Shixiong hadn't had this much fun in a long time. Although they were all children, they were quick-witted, and talking to them gave him a great sense of accomplishment.
After finishing her lunch, Zhang Hongmei decided to go to Fuzeyuan.
Before leaving, I called Er Ya and Wang Ying.
Ask them if they want to go, since all the children are going.
"Hongmei, how are the people back home?"
"Everything is fine. Grandma is in good health. We even got to eat wild boar meat this time."
"Of course you won't let the wild boars escape when you go up the mountain."
"Haha, yeah. But Brother Dashan is getting married again."
"That's a good thing. He's an only child, and his parents are worried because he's married but doesn't have any children."
"That's right, there's some sweet potato noodles I brought back in the car, you can share some later."
The reason I called you three here is to ask you something. We're taking our seven children to a retirement home in Q city for a month, and we're leaving the day after tomorrow. Would you three like to come along?
Wang Ying exclaimed excitedly, "I'm going! I definitely have to go!"
Er Ya and Lu Yue both agreed, but Han Mei shook her head.
"I'm not going. Zhu Zi comes back for meals every day, and I can't leave him alone. You guys go ahead."
"In that case, let's make it this way."
Then Zhang Hongmei and the other three started talking about the children's problems. It wasn't until four o'clock in the afternoon that Zhang Hongmei drove home.
Feeling bored, I went to accompany the children to their studies. This instructor was quite interesting; he almost told history to the children in the form of stories.
Zhang Hongmei listened with great interest; everyone has their own perspective on history. This person, however, was relatively impartial.
I stayed with the children until six o'clock before returning to the next room.
Zhang Shouyi came home early today. He arrived home at 6:30.
"Is there little to do today?"
Zhang Shouyi smiled and shook his head. "No, I have too much work, but I can only spend time with the children at night, so even if I'm busy, a couple more days won't make a difference. You've been gone for a month, so I've just been living in the office."
"Hehe, then you'd better take care of your health."
"I thought you were worried I wouldn't come back."
Zhang Hongmei smiled, "How could I not care? But I believe in you. If that day ever comes and someone like that appears, you must tell me. I will absolutely, positively not be a stumbling block on your road to happiness."
Zhang Shouyi laughed loudly, "Zhang Hongmei, give up. That will never happen. I feel disgusted just thinking about it."
Besides, you'll never get rid of me in this lifetime.
"Yes, I believe you."
Dinner was served promptly at seven o'clock, and the children had all washed up and come over.
Everyone had just sat down at the table and hadn't even started eating when the servant brought Li Chang'en in.
"Leader, Chief, Madam, this is Buddha Jumps Over the Wall. The four young masters asked us to send it back for you to try."
"Thank you, Secretary Li." Zhang Hongmei stood up with a smile.
"Madam, you're too kind. I won't delay your meal any longer."
Li Chang'en led them away. The servant lifted the lid of the casserole, and a fragrant aroma wafted out.
"Wow! It smells so good, my brothers are so nice."
Zhang Hongmei also thought it smelled good, so she deliberately ate a few more bites.
"Wife, do you like it?"
"It's alright, I've only heard of this dish before."
"Auntie, why is it called Buddha Jumps Over the Wall?"
"Liu Qiang, my aunt doesn't know much about this either. The gist is that the dish smells so good that even the Buddha would jump over the wall to steal a bite. Brother Zhang, am I right?"
"That's how I understand it, but this dish is very time-consuming to make."
The family ate it all with great satisfaction. Gu Chuanming sighed contentedly, "This chef's version is really authentic. I had it once when I was a child, and that was the real Buddha Jumps Over the Wall."
"Hehe, Grandpa, I already think it's very delicious."
"That's because you haven't eaten anything better." Gu Chuanming's face was full of reminiscence.
After dinner, the children stayed in the living room to help them digest.
“Li Qihong, your mother can’t come to the beach with us, but your aunt and the others will.”
The little guy nodded like a little adult, "Auntie, I understand."
"We're leaving the day after tomorrow, so you can go home tomorrow afternoon. We'll pick you up the morning after tomorrow."
"Auntie, when can I go home to see my mom, dad, and brother?"
When do you want to go back?
"I don't know either." But the little guy's expression was that the sooner the better.
"How about we call your dad and ask him what he thinks?"
"Okay, okay, but it'll have to be tomorrow. My dad will definitely be home by then."
Zhang Zhenye and the others returned at eight o'clock. The children practiced in the practice room for an hour as usual.
That night, the five of them sat in the bathtub to cultivate.
Zhang Hongmei sat in the living room, still racking her brains to write the script. If Carlos came over, she could ask him to take more of it back with him.
I really don't have the ability to write anymore. Having left that life there, I feel like I've lost a lot of inspiration. Besides, eight years have passed; there must be many screenwriters there by now.
They came out an hour earlier today than yesterday, at 2 a.m.
Looking at the smiling faces of the five of them, you can tell they must have gained a lot.
The four children sat on the living room sofa. Zhenye spoke up, "Mom, shall we give you the list of what we need in a bit?"
"No problem, I'll send someone to prepare tomorrow."
You're leaving the day after tomorrow morning, and it'll be a year from now. If you need anything, just write a letter and leave it in there; I'll check it every day.
All four children nodded. "Alright, go back and rest now. I'll give you a cup of water every day from now on, and you can take a bath once a month. As for when, you can decide for yourselves. And after your bath, just put the bath away."
After giving instructions to the four children, they each went back to their rooms to rest.
Zhang Shouyi held his wife tightly and wouldn't let go. They were about to be separated for a month, and he was already starting to miss her and feel reluctant to part with her.
Zhang Hongmei was finally able to rest at five o'clock in the morning.
She didn't even have the energy to complain about him, so she turned over and fell into a deep sleep. When she woke up, it was already 8:30.
He gave Lu Jing a list of the things the children wanted and asked her to prepare them. He then went into his room to cultivate in his spatial dimension.
The children came home half an hour later than usual that evening. Zhou Shixiong was truly reluctant to let them go. However, he also knew he couldn't selfishly delay their studies. He couldn't let them become like Yuan Qing.
"Ancestor, please wait for our good news. We have decided to finish the course in four years. By then, we will have time to come and keep you company every day."
"Our good ancestor will definitely be waiting for you."
