Chapter 318 Decision

Zhang Hongmei smiled and picked up a book from the table.

The sight of the class monitor and vice monitor sitting together is still quite novel to the students.

After the last class, Zhang Hongmei packed up her belongings, but did not rush to leave as usual.

Many students came over to greet Zhang Hongmei. Zhang Hongmei chatted with everyone with a smile the whole time, and she finally left the classroom twenty minutes later.

He saw Liu Jingze waiting for him in the bike shed.

"Hongmei, congratulations on standing out in the talent-rich Capital University."

"Brother Jingze, do we really need all this? Isn't it a bit too extravagant?"

"Hehe, I sincerely congratulate you. Okay, hurry home and be careful on the road. Also, carefully consider my proposal. It will start next week."

"Okay, I'll give you an answer tomorrow. I'm going home now."

I got home, had a simple dinner, and soaked in the bathtub, thinking about what had happened that day.

Kong Mingde is Zhang Shouyi's man, so it must be Zhang Shouyi's doing? But that seems unlikely. Based on my understanding of Zhang Shouyi, if he had such intentions, he would have told me directly.

Zhang Hongmei didn't get up until the water cooled down. She changed into her pajamas and tossed and turned in bed, feeling resentful. If others knew this, Zhang Hongmei would probably be beaten up by a group of people.

It is said that eating sweets is the best way to relieve stress when you are upset. Zhang Hongmei went to the storeroom and took out a bottle of canned yellow peaches in syrup. She slowly sat down at the dining table and ate them in small bites.

After finishing the last bite, I made my decision.

In reality, Zhang Hongmei was just being self-pitying. She knew that choosing this path was the best for her. But all she wanted in this life was to live freely and unrestrainedly, to live as she pleased, but reality wasn't like that, nor did it allow for such freedom.

After all that fussing, I went out of the space to sleep.

The next day, when Zhang Hongmei arrived at the classroom, she could clearly feel that everyone was much more enthusiastic towards her; that's just how reality is.

At noon, Zhang Hongmei gave Liu Jingze a definite answer, and he put the matter aside. It's best to let things take their course.

As soon as she entered the classroom, the counselor found Zhang Hongmei. "Zhang Hongmei, you have a speech to give at the opening ceremony next Monday. Get ready. You are a freshman representative and the top scorer of this year, so the school has arranged for you to go on stage for 15 minutes."

"Okay, I'll write the draft first. Do you have time to take a look at it, Counselor Chen?"

"Of course, it's my honor."

Zhang Hongmei returned to her seat, pulled out a piece of paper, and began writing her speech. Actually, Zhang Hongmei didn't think it was anything special; as long as the content was positive and uplifting, and had a certain degree of persuasiveness, it would pass muster.

I wrote about 800 words, and I felt that was about enough; there wasn't enough time to write more.

He read it through again and thought it was acceptable, so he handed it to Chen Shuang.

Chen Shuang was extremely surprised. This was too fast; no wonder he was the top scholar.

After reading it once, I felt that Zhang Hongmei was just being polite to me, and there was no need to change it at all.

He handed it to Zhang Hongmei and said, "It's very good. There's no need to revise it at all. You wrote it yourself, so you can definitely write it without a draft."

"Okay, thank you for your help, teacher."

Zhang Hongmei returned to her seat, picked up a book, and began to read it carefully. Tomorrow was Saturday; it was good to have a holiday.

After school that evening, Liu Jingze waited for Zhang Hongmei with his bicycle. Of course, the pretty Zheng Wenhui was also there.

Zhang Hongmei really didn't want to get involved between the two of them, so she pushed her cart and said, "Jingze, you and Zheng chat first, I'm going to buy groceries."

After saying that, he ignored Liu Jingze's ugly expression and pushed the cart away.

When we arrived at the food supply station, we found nothing, but we were pleasantly surprised.

They even have sweet bean sauce! "Comrade, do you need a ticket for sweet bean sauce?"

"No ticket needed, 25 cents a spoonful."

"That's great, comrade, could you get me a lunchbox of sweet bean sauce?"

This lunchbox of sweet bean sauce cost one yuan. Then I bought two cabbages.

The family was about to leave work, and Zhang Hongmei didn't have time to look closely before heading home with her two finds.

Liu Jingze hadn't returned yet. After thinking about it, I decided to have dumplings for dinner. It would be convenient, no need to cook, and they would taste good too.

It's still the cabbage and cooked meat filling, it's fresh and delicious. I just want to eat other fillings, but the only one I can find is dried radish, which isn't as good as the cabbage filling.

Zhang Hongmei made a total of sixty dumplings. Liu Jingze hadn't returned yet, and she felt hungry, so she lit a fire to boil water. She only cooked twelve dumplings and left the rest outside. It was still below minus ten degrees Celsius at night, so it was a natural refrigerator.

I happily ate twelve dumplings, patted my stomach, and felt like I could eat two more, but then thought better of it and decided to eat less tonight.

After cleaning up, Liu Jingze still hadn't returned. Thinking he wouldn't be back for dinner, she washed the pots and pans, boiled two thermos flasks of water, and went back to her room.

The light bulb was 60 watts, but Zhang Hongmei still felt it was too dark. The light bulbs nowadays were orange-red, unlike the white light of later generations, so the brightness was insufficient.

I'm going to the building tomorrow to buy a 100-watt light bulb, some fountain pen ink, and some snacks, but I don't want any pastries. I just don't know what else I can buy.

I took out my literature textbook and felt that I should immerse myself in these beautiful words and phrases more often. Maybe I could become a literary talent myself?

I only vaguely understood it; I felt that this idea was better left as a dream.

We all know each other, but we're not close.

It's past 10 o'clock and they still haven't come back. I figured they wouldn't be coming today, so I turned off the lights and went to sleep.

The next day, Saturday, Zhang Hongmei got up early, cooked ten dumplings for herself, and after eating, rode her bicycle to the food supply station, bought two cabbages, some scallions, and two pounds of eggs. She went home to deliver them first, and then went to the building.

I went straight to the second floor and bought five bottles of black fountain pen ink, five bottles of blue ink, twenty notebooks, and a dozen sheets of A4 white paper. I also bought ten candles and three 100-watt light bulbs.

Reluctantly, I went downstairs. I bought two pounds of brown sugar, one pound of rock sugar, two pounds of white sugar, and a pack of matches.

"Zhang Hongmei?"

"Oh, it's Wu Meiling, are you here to buy supplies too?"

"Yes, we students only have time on weekends. You bought quite a lot, shall I help you carry some?"

"Hehe, no need, I've already bought everything. What are you buying, Wu?"

“We’re going through fountain pen ink too fast. I’ve used a bottle and a half this week.”

"Me too, that's why I came to buy a few more bottles. We also don't have enough notebooks."

"Zhang Hongmei, I won't bother you any longer. I'm going to the second floor to take a look. I still need to buy fabric to make clothes for the children later."

"Wu, you go ahead and get busy. I'm going home now. See you at school."
