"Thank you so much, Zhang. I'll be relying on you from now on."
Zhang Hongmei thought to herself, "Isn't the Mr. Zhao I mentioned your father? Is it really okay for you to run the household like this?"
Looking at Zhao Tiancheng, he sighed inwardly, thinking what a good father he was, his son making the decision for him with such a doting expression. Of course, it wasn't impossible that Zhao Tiancheng himself had such thoughts.
Zhao Tiancheng and Zhang Hongmei met eyes and he smiled slightly. "Zhang Hongmei, thank you for taking us in."
"Hehe, Mr. Zhao, you're too kind. I hope you'll take good care of me in the future."
Both of them are sensible people, so it's good that they talked things out.
"Haha, that's great, Aunt Wang, we'll move here tomorrow."
"Haozheng, let's move over the day after tomorrow. We don't have time tomorrow morning. I need to help them set up their dorms."
“Dad, leave the students from the National University to me. You should go to Peking University. After all, Peking University is your dream. Since your son couldn’t get in, you can take advantage of the four students’ presence and go for a stroll there.”
"Hehe, that's fine. Let's go back and let everyone get a good rest for the night. Luckily, we arrived in the middle of the night yesterday and walked for a long time. Everyone was tired, so no one had trouble sleeping because of jet lag. Otherwise, it would have been too painful."
"Aunt Wang, I'll come over for dinner again tomorrow night."
"Okay, what would you like to eat?"
"I don't know either, but anything is better than eating bread every day."
"Hehe, then I'll go to the market tomorrow and cook you some of Auntie's specialties."
"That's great. I came back early to help."
Zhang Hongmei found it quite amusing to watch the grown man's reluctant actions and expressions. She really hoped that this guy was essentially a cheerful and optimistic young man.
Everyone was indeed exhausted. After seeing off Zhao Tiancheng and his son, they all washed up and went to sleep. Due to the high level of stress and exhaustion, and mainly because they were young and had regular routines, no one was jet-lagged.
The next day, I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to start the day again. The school provided bedding, but no one was used to it, so everyone brought their own luggage.
Breakfast was made by the girls with Wang Xinyi's help; it was just simple rice porridge, pickled vegetables brought from home, and one or two boiled eggs. There were also flatbreads on the table, just enough for one person, mainly because there were too many people and it would take too much time to prepare them.
Zhao Tiancheng and his son arrived early as well. Zhao Hao was eating a pancake roll with pickled vegetables and thought it was a delicious treat.
After dinner, the girls helped Wang Xinyi clean the house, the men were in charge of the living room and their respective rooms, and the girls were in charge of the kitchen.
Wang Xinyi was relieved that she was able to clean up in a day, but she was still very happy to have someone help her. She felt that even if it was tiring, it was worth it, since no one had a bad personality and this way, there wouldn't be any unpleasantness in their future interactions.
Everyone set off in different directions, but their joyful feelings were the same.
When they arrived at school, before classes had even started, the five of them—one with yellow skin and black hair—still attracted the attention of all the students. Everyone put down what they were doing and stared at them in surprise.
Cheng Guangxu and Cai Peilin felt a little uncomfortable. Zhang Hongmei said in a low voice, "Just be natural. So what if they look? What do you need to lose? I think this state of being watched will continue for quite some time."
After listening to Zhang Hongmei's words, the two straightened their chests and felt that what she said made sense. What did they have to be afraid of being seen by others?
The five of them went directly to the dormitory building, separating the men and women. Zhang Hongmei carried her luggage up to the third floor.
She took out her key and opened the door. This was supposed to be a two-person room, but the school hadn't arranged for anyone else to move in yet, so Zhang Hongmei was currently living alone. Instead of making the bed, she took out a basin to fetch water; she had to clean it at least once, otherwise she wouldn't feel comfortable.
The three boys were much simpler. They saw that the dormitory was quite clean and wanted to make their beds, but Zhao Tiancheng stopped them, saying that they had to wipe them down first.
Two hours later, Zhang Hongmei went downstairs and saw four people waiting for her downstairs.
"Mr. Zhao, I'd like to buy a bicycle. If you're busy, you can go ahead and do your thing; we can go by ourselves."
"Hehe, I'm fine. I'll take you there myself."
I run a textile factory here, and the people I hire keep an eye on things. I only go there every three to five days, so it's fine.
"Then I'll trouble you." Zhang Hongmei was still wondering why the owner of the textile factory didn't have a car. But that was none of her business.
The five of them boarded the bus, and Zhang Hongmei deliberately sat next to Cheng Guangxu. "Have you two decided yet, are you going to stay at home or in the dormitory?"
“I discussed it with Cai Peilin, and we decided to stay in the dormitory. With Zeng Zhongkang protecting you, we feel more at ease. Besides, I think the time for practicing both subjects is too tight. You can speak a little, but you don’t understand anything when it comes to writing. I’m thinking of giving myself three months to first understand the foreign language, and then I can practice both subjects.”
"Okay, once you've thought it through, that's fine. You don't need to put too much pressure on yourself."
"Hehe, it has to be done. Your starting point is much higher than ours. If you go back and we haven't even finished half of it, that would be too embarrassing. I'll still work hard. Even if I can't go back with you, I can at least not fall too far behind. Your goal is three years, and mine is four years."
"Hehe, then work hard. Cheng Guangxu, I believe in you. Don't let the outside world dazzle you. I believe you won't choose to stay for your own benefit and abandon your country and people."
Zhang Hongmei didn't deliberately lower her voice, so the other four heard what she said.
Cheng Guangxu looked at Zhang Hongmei seriously and said, "I, Cheng Guangxu, guarantee that I will never abandon my country and people. I will do my best to return to China as soon as possible and do my best to serve my country and people."
Cai Peilin also raised his head and said, "Me too, I will not abandon my motherland."
Zeng Zhongkang nodded in agreement. He wasn't worried at all; as a military officer cultivated by the state, his sense of responsibility and mission came first.
Zhao Tiancheng watched from the side, his heart burning with excitement.
How could a country not rise with such patriotic talents? I also secretly resolved to fully support them and do my part.
After getting off at the mall, the five of them bought bicycles and prepared to go home. Cheng Guangxu and Cai Peilin were in a hurry because they had just received Zhao Tiancheng's permission to tutor them in foreign languages at home. For the two who were pure-hearted and focused on learning, this was the greatest help.
