"Sister, I also have a roly-poly toy at home. My grandma made it for me."
"Oh? Your grandma is amazing, she can even do a roly-poly toy?"
"Yes, my grandma is very skillful with her hands. She even makes me flower dresses to wear."
"Really? You're so lucky to have such a grandma."
The items in the mall weren't very appealing to the two girls, and when they felt less full, they headed towards the amusement park.
It was all children's games, but Annie insisted on pulling Zhang Hongmei in, so she got to experience the fun of being a child.
They played until 2 p.m. before coming out, and the two men who had been waiting outside showed no signs of impatience.
"Ladies, do you have any other plans?"
The two looked at each other, and Annie shook her head. "Dad, let's go home. I've already taken up so much of your time."
Carlos McCann knelt down and hugged his daughter. "My baby, you are so considerate. I was wrong before. Don't worry, I will take you out to play every week from now on."
"Thank you, Dad. I just hope you can bring me back every week to see my sister."
"Okay, Dad promises you."
The four of them headed back home. Annie fell asleep in Zhang Hongmei's arms in the car. After all, she was only five years old, and she had used up a lot of energy jumping around all morning.
Carlos McCann was driving when he glanced in the rearview mirror at the pretty little girl holding his daughter. He felt a strong liking for her; this was the first time he had felt attracted to a woman since his wife's death. He couldn't help but look at her a few more times; she was indeed exquisite.
She said Anne was an angel, and she felt that Anne was an angel too.
Zeng Zhongkang noticed Carlos McKen's actions and was very unhappy, but since the other party didn't do anything special, he could only keep his anger to himself.
Back home, Zhang Hongmei personally carried Annie out of the car and placed her on her bed in her own room. After tucking her in, she quietly got up and left.
"Thank you."
Zhang Hongmei smiled and said, "You're welcome. I really like Annie so much, no need for your thanks. Remember to bring Annie to my house for dinner at six o'clock tonight. Now, I'll take my leave and go home."
"Okay. I'll be there on time."
Zeng Zhongkang followed behind Zhang Hongmei, and the two went back.
Zhang Hongmei entered the living room and found Wang Xinyi translating the book she had given her last time.
"Aunt Wang, let me do it myself. You need to rest more so that the baby can grow up healthily. You can't overwork yourself."
"It's alright, I only translate about ten pages a day. I'll be finishing soon. It's not hard work, I do it while taking breaks, don't worry."
"Alright, then you can translate it yourself. Where's Uncle Zhao?"
"He went to the farm to get roast geese, he should be back soon."
"Then I'll go upstairs and lie down for a while. Compared to the kids, my physical strength is really not up to par."
"Go on, go get some sleep. I'll wake you when your Uncle Zhao comes back."
Zhang Hongmei was so excited that she wrote a letter to Zhang Shouyi, filled with words about Annie. She genuinely liked this little girl from the bottom of her heart.
After reading Zhang Hongmei's letter, Zhang Shouyi recalled the surname McCann in his mind.
And then it really did remind him. This family was the most prestigious in the land, and the lady of the house was Chinese.
Zhang Shouyi's reply was just a brief mention that they might be from the First Family, but he didn't say anything else. His wife wasn't there to win over these people for him, so it was best to let things take their course.
Zhang Hongmei didn't think much of the letter after reading it. No matter how good her family background was, it had little to do with her. She just genuinely thought the child was likable, and there was no other reason. Perhaps it was just fate between the two of them.
I was thinking about designing a little game for Annie to play. I was worried she might get addicted, but then I remembered her working and reading with adults in the office, and I thought it would be good for her to have some entertainment.
Sitting in front of the computer, I thought about puzzle games from my past life. Maybe I should play Snake, which helps with hand-eye coordination.
Zhang Hongmei tapped her fingers incessantly, and slowly the game interface appeared on the screen.
An hour later, the game was finally completed, and levels were designed to increase children's interest.
After I finished designing it, I saved it to my C drive, and then to my A drive. This was a gift I gave to Annie.
Standing by the window, gazing into the distance to relieve eye strain, I noticed Zhao Tiancheng had driven back. I realized I'd just caused him trouble.
Zhang Hongmei came downstairs to find Zhao Tiancheng without being called.
"Uncle Zhao, thank you for making this trip."
"It's alright. Since he's your little friend, we should treat him with great hospitality."
Thank you.
"We don't need to be so polite."
"Hongmei, I only bought this house after receiving a notice from my supervisor. It's registered under your Aunt Wang's name. I've never met this neighbor before."
"Hehe, we're just neighbors, I just really like that girl."
"Hehe, I like it too, it's so beautiful."
"Yes, they're cuter than dolls."
Wang Xinyi sat to the side and laughed. The expressions on their faces, as if they were their own children, were just too funny.
“I’ll go to the kitchen to see what’s in the dishes for tonight. I think they should be familiar with our country’s food, and there should be someone in the family who is Chinese.”
"Hehe, that's good. Let's go together, mother and daughter, and discuss tonight's menu with Yunfang."
I wonder if Kong Yushun and the others will come?
"They should be coming. It's the holidays now, and we don't have to go back to school. They should come over after they buy the steamed buns. Let's make more, otherwise there won't be enough to eat. We can just eat leftovers for a few meals."
The two chatted as they entered the kitchen, where Shen Yunfang was cutting meat.
"Aunt Chen, shall we have braised pork tonight?"
"Hmm, braised pork, braised lion's head meatballs, cucumber and shrimp, and my homemade pickled cabbage is also ready to eat. I'll make a stir-fried rice noodle dish with pickled cabbage, a braised fish, roast goose, fruit salad, Kung Pao chicken, and finally, a hot and sour shredded potato dish."
What do you think of this recipe?
Wang Xinyi and Zhang Hongmei both smiled, showing how much they liked this little girl. In Shen Yunfang's eyes, all these dishes were delicious, so she made them to entertain the guests.
"Okay, but there are too many meat dishes. I also have a can of yellow peaches and a can of sour pears. If we mix them together, that will make a total of ten dishes."
"Okay, you two can go out. I can manage on my own."
"I'll still help you out. All ten of them need to come back for dinner. I think one pot of steamed buns isn't enough, so let's make another pot of rice."
