"Mom, you don't need to worry so much. Just take good care of yourself. Dad and I are here outside, but the family can't do without you."
"Yes, I know. I will make sure she recovers as soon as possible, otherwise it will be too tiring for Zhang Hongmei to do it alone. This child won't stay with anyone but her."
“That was fate between the mother and son. Zhang Hongmei is also my son’s mother.”
"Dad, will my little brother call Mom 'Mom' from now on?"
Carlos stroked his daughter's long hair. "Yes, Daniel will call you Mom from now on."
"And what about his mother?"
Your stepmother has passed away.
Is my younger brother just like me?
"Okay, so Annie, you have to take good care of him and love him from now on, okay?"
"Okay, Mom, I'll share half with him too."
"Daddy's good daughter."
"Carlos, will Red Plum agree?"
"She'll agree. She's so kind-hearted, and she's taken care of Daniel day and night; she's bound to develop feelings for him. Don't worry. I'll talk to her about it."
"Okay, Mom is sorry."
"Mom, don't overthink it. This isn't your fault. You need to take good care of yourself. After Hongmei leaves, you'll still have to take care of the children."
"I know I'll be alright. I'll definitely take care of Anne and Daniel until they grow up."
Although no one knew exactly what had happened, everyone in the family knew something must have gone wrong, so there was no festive atmosphere at home. Even Kong Yushun and the others didn't stay; they just wished Wang Xinyi and Zhao Tiancheng a Happy New Year before heading back.
Elizabeth's funeral was three days later. Zeng Zhongkang attended in place of Zhang Hongmei. He only brought a bouquet of flowers and bowed before the tombstone.
All the Macken families sent representatives, as did Carlos's friends, members of the aristocracy, and politicians. The Bassola family didn't cause a scene, but while they weren't particularly saddened, they still gave Elizabeth a respectable funeral.
Zhang Hongmei stayed home and took care of Daniel. The little guy changed every day. Even though he wasn't breastfed, he seemed very healthy because Zhang Hongmei had given him spiritual spring water.
School starts in a week. The little one is ten days old. The redness has faded, and he looks fair and tender.
Huang Meihua never left; she moved into a room that had been prepared on the second floor. Beth would also come over to stay every night, while she stayed home during the day to oversee things.
Carlos did the same, coming over every day after work. Seeing how well Zhang Hongmei was taking care of his newborn son, it would be a lie to say he wasn't moved.
Ningning knew that there was another child in the family, so Zhang Hongmei could only spend one or two hours with him every day, which made little Wang Zining very, very unhappy.
However, Annie kept talking about her younger brother next to him, and unexpectedly, the little guy also called out "brother".
This made Zhao Tiancheng very dissatisfied. Why didn't he call her "Dad"? He could have at least called her "Mom" first!
Children have no idea about the resentment of adults. Every day, he looked forward to Wang Xinyi taking him upstairs so he could see Zhang Hongmei and his little brother.
Daniel is actually very well-behaved; he always sleeps while the adults are eating.
Carlos showed Zhang Hongmei Daniel's identification.
"Carlos, why did you add the character 'Zhang'?"
“Hongmei, you’ve taken such good care of him, let him take your surname too.”
"Godmother, Godfather, Carlos. This really isn't appropriate."
Beth put down her cutlery. "Hongmei, this is a decision we made after discussing it. Don't refuse, there's nothing wrong with it."
Huang Meihua smiled and said, "Yes, Hongmei, that's more like it. Daniel Zhang McCann is also quite good."
“Hongmei, I have my own selfish reasons for doing this. You are Annie’s godmother, so why don’t you adopt Daniel as your godson too?”
Zhang Hongmei frowned and thought for a moment. "It's fine for me to adopt Daniel as my godson. The name will be fine as it is."
The family of three was relieved after hearing her words. It was good that Zhang Hongmei agreed.
"Mom, I've shared half of my maternal love with Daniel."
Zhang Hongmei stroked Annie's soft hair. "No, Mom will give you both complete love, it won't be less."
Annie was relieved. Her mother still loved her just the same.
Whenever it's mealtime, Ningning always sits next to Zhang Hongmei, and when she sees Zhang Hongmei touching Annie's hair, she makes "ah ah ah" noises to remind her.
Everyone at the table was speechless. Why does this child want to earn everything?
Zhang Hongmei patted the little guy's head, picked up his rice bowl, and fed him.
That night, only Zhang Hongmei and Daniel remained in the room. She told Zhang Shouyi about what had happened that day, especially the matter of having an adopted son.
Zhang Shouyi tossed down the letter, rubbed his forehead, and wondered if they already had children.
"Wife, although we don't have a child yet, we can still be considered to have both a son and a daughter."
And Dad's back. Try to find a way to help him get better.
After reading Zhang Shouyi's letter, Zhang Hongmei, thinking about Zhang Xingguo's return, immediately went to the bathroom and entered her spatial dimension. This time, the dilution ratio was five times. The concentration was too high; she was afraid that Zhang Xingguo's sudden change would attract attention.
Zhang Shouyi instructed Xiao Li and Secretary Wu to go home for lunch. His father and Old Master Gu were both home, so he wanted them to know that he had another adopted son.
When he got home at noon, he showed the letter to the two of them. Gu Chuanming laughed heartily. "That foreigner is clever, knowing to latch onto my granddaughter. Now you two are all set, with a son and a daughter. But Shouyi, let me tell you, you two will have at least three children."
"Grandpa, this isn't something I can decide; it's up to Hongmei to decide."
"Hmm, I'll tell this girl later."
After reading the letter, Zhang Xingguo's eyes were full of smiles.
"Dad, please drink this glass of water. Hongmei prepared five glasses for you, so we'll drink one glass every four days."
"Let's finish eating first, then have Old Li boil some water."
After drinking the water, Zhang Xingguo felt warm all over and felt particularly comfortable, especially at the site of his severed arm, where the tingling pain was gone.
I felt like I was covered in a foul odor, but thankfully there was hot water available. Zhang Shouyi came in and changed the water three times. Only then did I finally feel the odor disappear, and I felt much more relaxed.
"Xingguo, are you feeling better?"
"Yes, I feel completely relaxed, and I could carry a load for five kilometers without any problem." Zhang Xingguo laughed heartily after saying that.
In the afternoon, Zhang Shouyi went to work, while the two elderly people at home stayed to rest.
The next morning, Zhang Hongmei finished tidying up the little guy and feeding him, then let Huang Meihua watch over him. She needed to design as many games as possible while Daniel was still young, because he would need someone by his side when he grew up. Besides, the time for her departure was drawing ever closer.
Carlos had lunch with Wyatt. The two of them rarely bothered Zhang Hongmei anymore. They made the decisions themselves, and then Carlos would inform her.
