Chapter 820 Human Nature

"What are you saying? There are several other people in the family who can take care of things."

Beth had just arrived home when she received a call from Huang Meihua, which made her so angry that she slammed the phone down.

Instruct the steward to fetch the lady back and tell those men to come here.

Enrique Butch and George Harrison arrived with their four sons, and it took them quite a while to find out that Zhang Hongmei's home was there.

When the housekeeper told them they were to go to the McCann family's, both men hesitated. But the thought of their wives spending their lives in prison, and the McCann family taking back all their businesses, made their lives uncertain.

So the two of them discussed it and decided to come and plead for leniency. Even if the wife couldn't be released, they would at least be able to guarantee her future livelihood.

Jamie Butch nodded. He didn't care about anyone else; he had to apologize to his grandparents and uncle, plead for his mother's forgiveness, and beg for their forgiveness.

The others had no choice but to go, as they couldn't back down now.

Huang Meihua got into the car, a knot of anger churning in her stomach. Almost two months had passed since the incident, but these people only came today—she was utterly disappointed. In the quiet of the night, she would reflect on the past and feel deep regret. She shouldn't have let her daughter marry such an irresponsible man.

They followed behind, but Jamie ignored them and got out of the car and went into the living room when they reached the yard.

Huang Meihua and Beth sat there, and Jamie immediately knelt down. "Grandpa, Grandma, I know my mother did something unforgivable. I came here today to apologize to you on her behalf." After saying that, he kowtowed three times, stood up, and turned to leave.

The other five dawdled as they walked inside and met up with Jamie who had come out.

Jamie, why did you leave?

I really don't want to deal with them. I know what their purpose is, and sometimes I find it ridiculous. Right now, only a small circle of people know that the two McCann daughters committed murder. It must be that the grandfather and uncle suppressed this news, otherwise, the whole country would definitely know.

That would truly be a dead end. I really don't understand how they could be so naive. After something like this, they still expect others to continue supporting them. How shameless do they have?

So he ignored them completely, brushed past them, and decided to take the bus home instead of waiting for the bus.

The five people were really scared now, but since they had already come this far, if they didn't go in, the two elderly people might get even angrier.

As Beth and Huang Meihua watched Jamie's departing figure, they knew that at least there was still someone with conscience and a sense of responsibility.

But looking at the five people outside reminded him of the situation, and he felt helpless.

Finally, all five of them came in together, standing there with their heads down. Enrique Butch and George Harrison, being older, hesitated for a moment before taking half a step forward. "Mother, Father, please don't be angry."

That was all he said; he just stood there with his head down.

The two were genuinely disappointed. "You should leave now and don't come back again. I'm already being lenient by not punishing you."

The five people were so frightened that they quickly turned around and left, as if something was chasing them.

Seeing his wife in tears, Beth said, "Forget it, don't be sad for them. It's already happened, just accept it calmly."

“Beth, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have found them men like that just to keep them from having ambition. My selfishness ruined them.”

“You’re not wrong. It’s their nature that’s bad. Although these two men are irresponsible, they are honest. Do you think we don’t know their temperaments? If they had really found a good man, it wouldn’t be them who would be having headaches now, but us.”

"But that's flesh and blood that fell from my body!"

Beth closed his eyes, deciding not to tell his wife what the two men had said, and simply comforted her quietly.

Huang Meihua cried for a while, "I have to go back. I'm worried about leaving Xinyi to look after the child alone."

After seeing his wife off, Beth sighed helplessly. She was seeing threats everywhere, but that was to be expected.

When Zhang Hongmei came back that evening, she said, "The four of us are going to do internships. We've already filled in the company names. Zhao Haozheng, could you go to the company and register us tomorrow?"

"Sure. Don't worry, I filled in the company information too. What are your specific dates?"

"The exam will be over next month."

"We are too."

Time flew by, and it was time for the exams at the beginning of the month. It was a two-day exam. For the four of them, it wasn't difficult at all; their foundational knowledge was solid.

The exam is on Wednesday, and the results will be available next Monday. So these next few days are for rest.

Miao Xinyue looked at the five of them with envy. "Hongmei, when are you coming back to China?"

"The internship will last about six months, there is a time limit. After that, the four of us will get our diplomas and go back to China immediately."

"I really envy you two. We still have more than a year to go!"

"Don't envy us, we've worked hard."

On Saturday night, the ten of them came together again. They knew that Hongmei and the others would soon be leaving school for their internships.

Kong Yushun looked at Zhang Hongmei, seemingly wanting to say something but hesitating. Zhang Hongmei was quite accommodating to him.

"What's wrong?"

"Hongmei, may I ask if I can go back with you?"

"Why? You can't skip a grade now? Don't you want to graduate?"

Kong Yushun didn't say anything, but that was the gist of it.

"Why?"

"I feel depressed when I'm with them."

"So how can you face the country and people who raised you like this? You've disappointed me greatly."

"No, I'm also struggling with this, but I'm really unhappy and feel depressed."

"You can't even handle this? When you enter the workforce, can you guarantee that you'll like all the people you work with? How can you be so naive? You don't even have the responsibility of a man."

Kong Yushun hung his head blankly, and Zhang Hongmei felt he was particularly dejected. She suppressed her anger.

"I'm not saying anything else, I'm just asking you, can you guarantee that everyone you meet in the future will be someone you like? Can't you learn to ignore them? Can't you face things with strength? Then, if you encounter anything you're not happy about in the future, will you back down?"

Kong Yushun remained silent for more than ten minutes. "Zhang Hongmei, it's not what you say. I'm just really fed up with them. After you leave, there's no one to keep them in check. Who knows what might happen? I don't want to get myself into trouble because of them."

"Kong Yushun, do you think you're incredibly great? Do you think everyone should obey your commands?"
