"Hongmei, please accept this; it's a small token of our appreciation."
Daniel sat on Zhang Hongmei's lap, ignoring even Huang Meihua, whom he was second to her in terms of familiarity, calling to him. He waved and grabbed Zhang Hongmei's sleeve, looking like an abandoned little animal, so cute.
"This child knows you're leaving," Huang Meihua said with some sadness.
"Godmother, we will definitely have a chance to meet again."
And don't worry, Godfather, I'll take care of the factory over there.
"Yes. I feel at ease with you here. Please remind them more often."
"Hehe, they're all more capable than me. I just need to keep an eye on things."
"Yes, when Daniel is older, the four of us will definitely come to see you."
Looking at her pitiful grandchildren, Huang Meihua really wanted to go back with Zhang Hongmei regardless of everything. But how could she let her son bear such a large family and such a heavy burden alone?
It wasn't until evening that the family had a particularly lavish meal. Wyatt and Carlos could eat as soon as they returned.
After dinner, the three went to the study, where Zhang Hongmei handed over all the games and scripts to Wyatt.
"Zhang Hongmei, what will happen after you leave?"
"Let's take it slow. I'll have someone write to Annie every two months, and there will be games or scripts or something. Just don't rush me."
"Okay, then I'll wait."
"Okay, you still need to train people. The research team can't stop, and you also need to discover more writers."
"Hehe, it'll be Carlos's job when Christmas comes."
"Um!"
Carlos spoke very little. Wyatt knew he was reluctant to part with him, and he himself was just as reluctant. He acted indifferent, but was he really indifferent? Only he knew.
Anne came over and said, "Mom, Daniel is throwing a tantrum."
Zhang Hongmei stood up helplessly. "Alright, I'll write to you from now on."
Huang Meihua and the other two did not go back; they stayed here tonight.
"Mom, are you leaving tomorrow morning?"
"Yes, Annie, Mom will miss you."
Annie hugged Zhang Hongmei's waist and said, "Mom, I'll miss you too. Wait for me."
"Okay, Mom will wait for you."
Our flight was at 7 a.m., so we started getting ready at 5 a.m. Given the temperature, we didn't bring any food; just one bag for each of the four of us, which seemed very simple.
Annie woke up, and even Ningning was sitting at the dining table.
Everyone ate their meal in silence, unsure of what to say.
I only ate a couple of bites, partly because it was too early, and partly because of my mood.
Zhang Hongmei also lost her appetite. Feeling very down, she went upstairs and looked at Daniel lying on the bed, feeling a lump in her throat.
Children are perhaps the most sensitive. Daniel suddenly opened his eyes and looked at Zhang Hongmei, calling out, "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!"
Tears streamed down her face as she rushed forward and hugged Daniel, saying, "Baby, Mommy will miss you."
Behind them, Beth and his son raised their heads, and Huang Meihua and Annie both shed tears.
Daniel called out "Mom!" and awkwardly used his little hands to wipe away Zhang Hongmei's tears.
"Hongmei, give Daniel to me, it's getting late." Huang Meihua wiped away her tears and sat on the bed.
Zhang Hongmei was really reluctant to part with him, but she couldn't be selfish and take Daniel away. With a heavy heart, she handed him to Huang Meihua.
She kissed Daniel on the cheek. "Baby, Mommy will wait for you, okay?"
The little guy nodded, tears welling in his eyes.
Zhang Hongmei resolutely turned and left, going downstairs. Hearing Daniel's heart-wrenching cries behind her, tears streamed down her face like broken pearls, impossible to wipe away.
Carlos and Annie went to the airport to see them off. Zhao Hao was driving Zeng Zhongkang and the other two.
Zhang Hongmei sat in the back seat, holding Annie close. "Baby, Daniel is in your care now. Mom knows you'll be a very responsible older sister."
"Mom, I promise."
The passengers were silent. By now, everything that needed to be said had been said many times over. It felt like nothing could express their reluctance to part.
There will always be a time to arrive. The three of them got off the car. Carlos walked to Zhang Hongmei's side, looking at the woman who had taken his heart, feeling his hands trembling. He really wanted to disregard her wishes and force her to stay.
"Carlos, thank you for taking care of me."
"Hongmei, can't you feel my heart for you?"
Zhang Hongmei looked directly into Carlos's eyes and said, "I'm sorry, I only consider you a friend, a business partner, and family."
"Hongmei, what if I force you to stay?"
"What you can't do is leave without any external force."
Carlos, deflated like a punctured balloon, suddenly stepped forward and hugged Zhang Hongmei tightly. He felt her struggle, then let go dejectedly. "You've always been here. And, have a safe journey!" Carlos clutched his chest.
Zhang Hongmei nodded, bent down, and hugged Annie. "Goodbye, baby!"
Goodbye, Mom! Wait for me!
The three watched the four enter the ticket gate. It felt like they were the only people in the airport; the noise couldn't reach their ears at all.
Zhang Hongmei didn't look back. She had no attachment to this land, but she truly couldn't bear to leave those few people.
Zhao Tiancheng handled all the exit procedures, and the four of them passed through the ticket gate. Soon they were lost in the crowd.
Zhao Hao watched the father and daughter staring blankly at the crowd. He shook his head. Luckily, he had controlled his emotions, otherwise he would have ended up like them.
"Carlos, Anne, let's go back."
The four boarded the plane smoothly and found their seats. Zhao Tiancheng had booked first class, and the four of them were together.
Cheng Guangxu was also feeling down. He hated separation the most. He really couldn't stand this oppressive atmosphere.
"Hongmei, don't be sad. We have to leave eventually. Don't be heartbroken."
Zhang Hongmei nodded. "I know. Actually, I was wrong from the beginning. If I hadn't invested my feelings, I wouldn't be so sad now."
"But if you don't invest your emotions, your three years of life will be meaningless."
Okay, think about your family waiting for you, and about the future.
Cheng Guangxu couldn't continue speaking at this point. This time when he returned, Zhang Hongmei's identity would definitely be exposed, and it would be extremely difficult for her to go abroad in the future.
Zhang Hongmei closed her eyes and slowly said, "I know, I know everything."
Zeng Zhongkang and Cai Peilin remained silent, afraid of saying the wrong thing and making Zhang Hongmei even more upset. They were both heartbroken. How could they not have feelings for each other after three years together?
But what good are feelings? We can still tell what's more important.
"Hongmei, when we go to Country Y, would you like to visit it? I've never been there before."
"You guys go take a look around, it's quite lively there at night, I won't go out."
"What's the point if you don't go?"
