"Annie, do you want to come back with me, or should I take you home?"
"Mom, I'll stay with you tonight!"
"Okay, let's go home then, and call your grandma when we get there."
Zhang Hongmei felt that Annie was still a little unhappy, but she didn't know how to say it or how to comfort her.
Forget it, let her figure it out herself. No matter what others say, it's not as good as her own understanding.
Back home, everyone was there. Zhang Hongmei gave Zhao Hao a wink, and he really did his best to finally hear the little girl's cheerful laughter.
Now Zhang Hongmei realized that this child was too calculating.
Dinner was hand-pulled noodles, which is quite a time-consuming meal. It must have been quite a challenge for Shen Yunfang to make noodles for the whole family all by herself.
Annie still really enjoyed the food and ate a whole bowl in one go.
"Mom, this food is delicious, and Aunt Chen's braised beef is really good too."
Wang Xinyi smiled and said, "As long as our Annie likes to eat it, that's all that matters. Look how happy your Aunt Chen is. She loves it when people praise her cooking."
After dinner, Zhao Hao was playing games with Annie and two other girls. Seeing that they were having a good time, Zhang Hongmei decided to go upstairs to talk to Zhang Shouyi about what had happened that day. She had made it a habit to tell him what happened every day.
When Zhang Shouyi received the letter from his wife, he had just woken up and wanted to sleep, but he couldn't. His biological clock would automatically wake him up every five hours, which was quite a problem.
“Brother Zhang, I was at McCann’s house today. Mr. Beth said he could try to talk to the president of B University. Maybe the four of us can go straight to our junior year next semester. Haha, we won’t have time to play anymore. We’ll have to focus on studying. It’s a year behind in our studies.”
"Honey, you really don't need to work so hard. I'll figure something out for you after the deadline."
"I don't want you to get involved. If I can handle something myself, I'll do it myself. If I can't handle it, I'll find someone else. If finding someone else still doesn't work, then you'll have to step in."
I also gave the ginseng my grandfather gave me to Wang Xinyi; she's several months pregnant. I'm a little worried about her.
This was the first time Zhang Hongmei had told Zhang Shouyi about Wang Xinyi's pregnancy. He had ignored it before, but Zhang Shouyi felt a little uneasy after hearing it. She was already having a child at such an advanced age, while his own child was still several years away.
"Wife, I still have some ginseng here. I'll go find it for you."
Before Zhang Hongmei could even refuse, the ginseng arrived. This person truly touched my heart. Actually, I already had eighty or a hundred ginseng roots, so I didn't need any. But this kindness is definitely worth cherishing.
"Brother Zhang, today I encouraged the McCann family to explore opportunities in China. Their focus is on the automotive industry. We discussed some issues, and my suggestion to them was trucks and motorcycles. What do you think?"
After listening to his wife's words, Zhang Shouyi fell into deep thought. How could his wife be so familiar with the future? She must know that trucks and motorcycles would be the trend for the next twenty years. That's why she made such a suggestion.
“Honey, I think you’re absolutely right. That’s it. I’ll take care of them after they arrive.”
After listening to Zhang Shouyi's words, Zhang Hongmei had a better understanding of the situation. He didn't question her, which meant he believed in her. She felt that this was a good thing, and that she felt like she had been spoiled a little too much.
But what woman wouldn't like that? The secret joy she felt was something she wouldn't let outsiders know.
The two chatted for a while longer about trivial things. Zhang Hongmei checked the time and ended the call. She needed to let Annie go to sleep.
The next morning, Annie and Zhang Hongmei got up together. Her mother had wrapped her up tightly, and they stood in the yard practicing Tai Chi.
Today is Sunday. After dinner, Zhang Hongmei called the three of them to her study and told them what Beth had said yesterday.
So you're going to start taking second-year courses, which will be very tiring. You can reduce your computer science studies now. We need to sort out the issue of skipping a grade first. We can study computers in our spare time later.
All three nodded. "Hongmei, where should we look for textbooks?"
“I have some here, you can choose whichever you like. I’ll go to the bookstore in a bit and see if they have the textbooks. If they do, we can each have a set. If not, we can pass them around.”
"I'll go to the bookstore with you in a bit," Zeng Zhongkang told Zhang Hongmei, not asking for her opinion.
Zhang Hongmei nodded, "Okay, I'll call you when I go out."
All three agreed, each took a book, and without further ado, went back to their bedrooms.
Zhang Hongmei was quite at ease with the three of them; she didn't need to supervise them at all, as they were very self-disciplined.
Going downstairs, I saw Zhao Yuetong helping Annie comb her hair. Looking at the little girl's head full of braids, I thought she was quite pretty.
"Mom, Aunt Zhao said she's going to braid my hair. Do you think it looks good?"
Zhang Hongmei nodded, "Yes, she's very beautiful. My angel looks beautiful no matter what she wears."
“Yes, Hongmei is absolutely right. Annie looks beautiful no matter what she wears.” Miao Xinyue genuinely envied the young girl.
"Mom, can I ask Uncle Zhao and the two aunties to take me out to play later?"
"Oh, do you have a destination in mind? Where do you want to go?"
"I still want to go to the amusement park. I didn't get to play much yesterday, and I want to go again today. Plus, Uncle Zhao is treating me to dinner!"
"Yes, I've invited our beautiful angel to lunch."
"Hehe, we just went there to freeload and have fun." Miao Xinyue laughed heartily after saying that.
"Okay, you guys go ahead, I'll stay home and read. Have fun."
The four left happily, and the house was finally quiet. Zhang Hongmei went to the kitchen to tell Shen Yunfang that she didn't need to cook for the four of them, then went upstairs to her study. She still planned to go to the bookstore in the afternoon; she had a complete set of second-year textbooks, and she could actually switch between them. But she wasn't used to doing that, so she decided to spend money to buy some for the three of them.
I entered the space in the bathroom. I buried myself in a book, took a nap when I got tired, and ate a few pieces of dried sweet potato when I got hungry. It felt like I was back in high school.
No one called Zhang Hongmei to eat. They were afraid of bothering her; they figured she would come down on her own if she got hungry.
After having dinner with his wife, Zhao Tiancheng and his wife took a walk in the yard.
"Honey, shall we go to the hospital this afternoon?"
“Brother Zhao, are you really worried? Okay, let’s go to the hospital after I wake up so you can put your mind at ease. Actually, I know my own body, I’m really fine.”
