It felt like we arrived home in no time. Seeing the car in the yard, I knew Huang Meihua and the others had arrived.
The pork stew with vermicelli for dinner was really popular. Shen Yunfang also made hot and sour vermicelli.
Zeng Zhongkang delivered the food himself today, and Wang Xinyi was very happy to eat the rice noodles. She even ate a few extra bites. There wasn't a drop of the hot and sour noodles left.
After finishing her meal, Huang Meihua sat on the sofa. "Hongmei, this tastes just like home. It's just that the potato noodles are too white. They don't look like they used to."
"Godmother, once the sweet potatoes are harvested, we'll process them all into sweet potato flour, and that will be exactly what you're looking for."
"Hehe, I'm just waiting to eat. Why did you suddenly think of this, girl?"
"I was afraid that the unsold ones would go to waste, so I thought of this."
Carlos, who was listening from the side, chuckled and said, "Hongmei, you're acting like a miser."
"Hehe, who said that? This is a resourceful person who can make use of waste." Beth retorted to her son, and the whole family burst into laughter.
Annie leaned against Zhang Hongmei. "Mom, the hot and sour noodles are really delicious. I think they're even better than pork stew with vermicelli."
"Annie, when Aunt Chen makes sauerkraut later, we can make sauerkraut stew with glass noodles, and we can also have hot pot with mutton. There are many ways to eat it."
After chatting for a while longer, Zhang Hongmei saw them off.
However, Wang Xinyi, who was in the hospital, went into labor in the middle of the night.
Zhao Tiancheng immediately called Zhang Hongmei.
"Uncle Zhao, how long has Aunt Wang been inside?"
"It's been almost an hour."
"Uncle Zhao, please sit down. I feel dizzy just looking at you."
Several people waited anxiously outside the door, and Shen Yunfang also came over with soup. It was Cheng Guangxu who delivered it by bicycle.
Three hours later, the operating room door opened, and a nurse brought out a swaddled baby. She smiled at Zhao Tiancheng outside and said, "Congratulations, sir, your wife has given birth to a boy weighing six pounds and eight ounces."
How is my wife?
“Excellent, it will be released immediately.”
Zhao Tiancheng sat down abruptly, grinning widely. Those three hours had felt like an eternity. Finally learning that mother and child were safe, he felt utterly drained.
Zhang Hongmei carefully took the child from the nurse's arms. "Uncle Zhao, look, this child is so beautiful."
Zhao Tiancheng realized what was happening. He immediately stumbled over, not daring to reach out and hug the baby, just staring helplessly at the still-closed-eyed child. At that moment, Wang Xinyi was wheeled out of the operating room.
Zhao Tiancheng immediately rushed over, "Wife, are you alright?"
Wang Xinyi nodded. "I'm fine, don't worry. How's the baby?"
“Hongmei is being held, she hasn’t opened her eyes yet, and she’s not crying.” Zhao Tiancheng followed along, and the others also entered the ward together.
It's almost dawn; this child was born at 3:30 AM. They really know how to pick a time.
Zhang Hongmei handed the child to Wang Xinyi. She sat back, holding her child, and tears streamed down her face.
"Wife, what's wrong with you?"
Wang Xinyi shook her head, "I'm just too happy. My Wang family finally has an heir. I can face my parents and family with a clear conscience."
"Honey, you can't cry, this is something to be happy about."
"Yes, it's something happy, I'm crying tears of joy."
The child seemed a little uncomfortable and squirmed. Wang Xinyi gently touched his cheek and laid him on the bed.
Shen Yunfang handed over a bowl of soup. "Sister Wang, this was made according to your instructions. Please drink it quickly."
Wang Xinyi took it and slowly finished drinking it. Cheng Guangxu and the others couldn't stay in the ward forever, so the three of them wanted to go back.
"Hongmei, you should go back too. Your Uncle Zhao and Aunt Shen can stay. You have to go to school later."
"Yes, Aunt Shen will take care of you. We can take care of our own meals."
"Okay, you four be careful on your way." Zhao Tiancheng saw the four of them off and returned to the ward.
“Ms. Shen, go to bed and rest. I'll take care of things here,” Zhao Tiancheng said as he helped Wang Xinyi lie down.
"Mr. Zhao, you should rest. I'll take care of Sister Wang."
Wang Xinyi was too exhausted to care about them. She fell asleep almost immediately after lying down. She was too tired and in too much pain; she had only been forcing herself to stay awake.
Zhang Hongmei would come to the hospital to see Wang Xinyi and her child every day after school.
On Saturday, the doctor allowed Zhao Tiancheng to be discharged, but he was still unwilling.
“Brother Zhao, the hospital is too chaotic. Besides, no one comes to the hospital unless they are sick. There must be a lot of viruses there. The child is too young. Let’s go back.”
"How could I be so stupid? Right, right, let's hurry home. Home is so nice."
Wang Xinyi felt a sweet warmth in her heart as she looked at the out-of-focus Zhao Tiancheng. She felt fulfilled too. Finally home, Zhang Hongmei helped her unpack her things from the car.
After Wang Xinyi was settled in, the phone rang in the living room.
"Hongmei, has Xinyi arrived home yet?"
"Godmother, they just arrived home. Don't worry."
"Okay, I'll move in tomorrow and stay for a while."
"Godmother, you don't need to move in. Aunt Chen is here, so don't worry. The neighbors next door are not available right now, and there are no spare rooms in the house."
"Alright, then I'll go there every day. Although I'm not good at taking care of people, I have experience from having four children."
“Okay, it would be good for you to come and keep Aunt Wang company. At least she won’t be bored during her postpartum period.”
Also, the baby is starting to grow a bit, she's so cute! If you come over tomorrow with Annie, she'll definitely love it.
"Hehe, she's been anxious for a while now. Alright, you go ahead and get busy, we'll go over tomorrow."
Zhang Hongmei told Wang Xinyi that Huang Meihua would be coming tomorrow.
“Your godmother visits me at the hospital every day; she gets excited even earlier than I do.”
"Hehe, that's right. My godmother just said that she's not good at taking care of people, but she's very experienced."
"Sister Huang is indeed very experienced and told me a lot of things to pay attention to."
"Aunt Wang, shall I make you some fish soup?"
“Okay, now I don’t even have enough milk for Wang Zining to eat.”
"Okay, I'll go make fish soup."
"Sigh! I've been drinking a lot of soup, but it's probably because I'm getting old and I don't have enough milk."
"It's alright. If we don't find a wet nurse, we can feed the baby formula. That's fine too. If that doesn't work, we can go to the ranch and get a cow. He won't go hungry."
"That's all we can do. A wet nurse won't do. I'll have your Uncle Zhao go buy some formula in a bit. Let's see if Ningning will eat it."
"Aunt Wang, shall I go? Let Uncle Zhao stay home with you?"
"That works too. Women are always more meticulous than men."
Zeng Zhongkang drove them to the mall, where there were six different kinds of milk powder. Zhang Hongmei put them all together and compared them. They all seemed about the same, so she asked about the prices and ultimately chose the most expensive one.
