"Oh!" Zhang Hongmei turned around, took Annie's hand, and went to greet them.
"Dad, Mom," Annie greeted sweetly.
Carlos knelt down and kissed his baby. "Annie, are you coming home with me today?"
"No, Dad, I'm going to spend this holiday learning computers with Uncle Cheng and the others."
"Okay, okay, my daughter is so well-behaved."
Elizabeth greeted Zhang Hongmei first. "Miss, you look beautiful today."
"Thank you for the compliment, Madam. You are very beautiful too."
The four of them found seats and sat down together. Carlos held his daughter tightly the whole time; the father and daughter were never separated for long.
Carlos wasn't used to it. Even when Annie lived with Zhang Hongmei, she would still go home every few days. But since he got married, Annie didn't want to stay at home anymore.
Carlos glanced at Elizabeth out of the corner of his eye. Could it be that she treated Anne badly? But he hadn't heard his parents mention it.
No, I've neglected my daughter too much. I should go back and ask her. But it's really not a good time to ask her now.
Wyatt saw the four of them and came over. "You two seem to be having a lot of free time. As shareholders, shouldn't you be helping to entertain the guests?"
"Hehe, you're so capable, I'll leave it to you."
"Zhang Hongmei, stop this nonsense. You have to speak in a bit. As the boss and screenwriter, you can't just sit there eating and drinking, can you?"
"Okay, I understand. I'll definitely speak up."
"You're just giving me the runaround. Carlos, you didn't help me during my two years in office, so don't expect me to step in when it's your turn."
"How could that be? I've seen my daughter, haven't I? You rest for a bit, leave the rest to me."
"You're smart to know what's good for you." Wyatt sat down, and Carlos left.
"Mom, Uncle Zhao and Uncle Zeng are here."
The two people saw them too. They sat down next to them.
After exchanging greetings, Zhao Hao and Wyatt got up and left together.
The celebration party was quite successful, with the two directors, all the actors, staff, and media reporters all in attendance.
Seeing the large number of reporters from TV stations, radio stations, newspapers, and magazines, Zhang Hongmei frowned and said, "Zeng Zhongkang, go find Wyatt and tell him that I can't go on stage to speak. Also, there can be no reports about me, and no photos. I'll wait for you outside."
“No, wait for me here, I’ll be right back.” Zeng Zhongkang’s attitude was very firm.
"Annie, do you want to go back with Mom? Or do you want to go with Dad or Uncle Zhao later?"
"Mom, why?"
“Annie, as a mother, you can’t appear in newspapers or on television.”
"Mom, I want to stay. I want to go with Dad, and I'll go back with Uncle Zhao tonight."
“Okay, your great-uncle will take you there.” Zhang Hongmei was a little anxious. The banquet hadn’t even started yet, so leaving now was still possible. How could she have forgotten about the media?
When Zeng Zhongkang returned, Carlos followed behind him. He had just overheard Zeng Zhongkang relaying Wyatt's words and knew that Zhang Hongmei's identity was indeed unsuitable for her to appear.
"Hongmei, you can go back now. Leave it to me."
“Okay, Annie wants to play a little longer, keep an eye on her. We’re leaving now.” Zhang Hongmei said, then said goodbye to Elizabeth and left the venue under Zeng Zhongkang’s escort.
Once she was in the car, Zhang Hongmei finally breathed a sigh of relief. She decided to avoid showing up at her company's annual meetings from now on.
When Zhao Haozheng and Annie returned and told them that the celebration party was a great success, and that they didn't see their photos in the newspaper the next day, they were finally relieved.
With school starting soon, the two went back to the McCann family home again. "Grandpa and Grandma, I want to live at Mom's house from now on, okay? If Mom doesn't have time, she can have the driver pick me up and drop me off."
Beth and Huang Meihua fell silent. Zhang Hongmei was also startled.
Huang Meihua hugged Annie and asked, "Baby? Don't you miss your grandpa and grandma?"
"Yes, Mom. Can you come back and stay with me every week?"
The three of them fell silent.
"Grandma, I'll come back every week."
Seeing the disappointed expressions on the old couple's faces, and then looking at Annie's pitiful appearance, Zhang Hongmei decided to say nothing.
Beth picked up Annie. "Baby, can you tell Grandpa why?"
"I just don't like staying at home anymore; it feels unfamiliar."
"But you still have us, don't you?"
Annie just shook her head. Huang Meihua's eyes reddened; why was her precious daughter so stubborn?
They finally agreed to Annie's request, which made the two elderly people very unhappy, and the little girl was also very depressed.
After getting on the bus, Annie leaned on Zhang Hongmei and said, "Mom, I just feel like that's not my home anymore."
"Annie, is it because your mother treats you badly?"
Annie shook her head. "No, I just don't like it. I feel like an outsider."
“Annie. I told you, if there’s anything your mother is unhappy about about you, you can talk to your grandmother. The two elders will be disappointed if you come out like this.”
Anne lowered her head, stubbornly refusing to speak.
Zhang Hongmei doesn't dare to say too much now; let's take it slow.
The Beths returned to their bedroom. "Beth, did I choose the wrong person?"
"That was Carlos's own decision, it has little to do with you, don't take everything on yourself."
Annie is having trouble adjusting right now, but with Hongmei's encouragement, she'll get used to it gradually.
"I hope so. Why is Anne so averse to Elizabeth?"
"Hey! Don't overthink it. Children are very sensitive to good and evil."
"But what will happen to Hongmei after she goes back?"
"Then let Carlos and the others move out. Annie can come back and stay with the two of us."
Meanwhile, Elizabeth in the bedroom was so angry that her face was contorted. She had never done anything to that little girl, so why was she so wary of her?
What would Carlos think of him? He had suffered at the hands of his stepmother, so he had never thought of treating that girl like that.
What an ungrateful wretch! The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I stood up in frustration, went to the living room, drank a few sips of water, but I was still furious. Suddenly, I turned around and everything went white. Then I knew nothing more.
Elizabeth fainted, and her maid was terrified.
When she woke up, she was still a little confused.
"Madam, you're awake? You fainted just now. The family doctor came over and said we should wait for you to wake up before taking you to the hospital. I'll go and inform them."
And so, Huang Meihua accompanied him to the hospital.
After a series of tests, the final result was that Elizabeth was pregnant.
This was truly a wonderful surprise. Upon hearing the news, Elizabeth simply stood there, clutching her lower abdomen in a daze. She was pregnant?
Huang Meihua was genuinely happy. Carlos was almost thirty-two years old and only had one child, Annie. Now things were finally alright.
