A simple "I'm tired" is worth a thousand words.
Han Junche's heart was weighed down by those three words. He was afraid of hearing anything even more unacceptable from Chi Xia's mouth, so he pulled Chi Xia into his arms and held her tightly, whispering in her ear, "If you're tired, take a rest. This time, it's my turn to comfort you."
Chi Xia didn't raise her arms to hug him back, but simply let him hold her. Her long eyelashes trembled slightly, and she finally responded softly, "Okay."
Mengmeng poked her head out of Chi Xia's backpack and gently rubbed against Han Junche's face, as if silently comforting him.
Han Junche paused for a moment, then slowly released Chi Xia, reached out and patted its head, and said, "You're so big now, you should be able to walk on your own. Don't let your mom always carry you."
Mengmeng was taken aback by what he said, then let out a howl and jumped out of the backpack.
It was already very late. Chi Xia took out a few four-piece bedding sets from her backpack, and together with Zhang Xinchunli, they set up a makeshift tent. Jerry then brought out a pile of straw from his spatial storage and laid it out as a makeshift bed. After dinner, the group turned off their car lights, hung up the flashlights that Chi Xia had brought out, and made do with resting.
The next day, after getting up and having breakfast, the two teams sat together and held their first meeting.
Li Han explained his reasons and concerns about going to the military base near H City, which Han Junche agreed with.
Han Junche said, "I have been to the military base in H City. The base is very large and has strong capabilities. Before the apocalypse, it was a level-one base. If it had not suffered devastating damage, the weapons, equipment and other supplies inside would have been enough to directly establish a new base."
“Then it’s settled.” Lin Yi clapped his hands. “We’ll first go to Z City to plunder supplies, then go to H City to establish a base. From now on, we can start thinking about the name of the base.”
When it came to naming the base, everyone got excited. Wang Dalong said excitedly, "The reason why Thunder Base was named Thunder was because of the boss's lightning-type ability."
As soon as he finished speaking, he realized he had said the wrong thing and chuckled awkwardly, "Never mind what I said."
"It's alright." Chi Xia waved her hand. "I'm not that petty. There's no rush to name it. We'll talk about it after the base starts being built."
The group set off again. After being scolded by Han Junche, Mengmeng refused to go into the backpack anymore. Chi Xia scanned Mengmeng's information with her golden finger and found that its intelligence had reached that of a six-year-old, so she stopped restraining it.
A few days later, the group arrived in Z City and carried out a thorough sweep, from hospitals to clinics, from small shops to major shopping malls, putting everything that was not expired and could be moved into Chi Xia and Jerry's space.
The zombies in Z City were completely cleared out, and Z City became a ghost town.
After leaving Z City, the group drove towards H City.
The journey was no different from before, except that the relationship between Han Junche and Chi Xia had become somewhat subtle. The two no longer argued or had a cold war, but they also stopped showing affection as often as before, which made Lin Yi and the others feel a little awkward.
Lin Yi fell into self-doubt: "Am I a masochist? I was unhappy when my boss and his girlfriend used to flaunt their relationship and make me jealous, but now that they've stopped, why am I even more unhappy?"
Liu Daniu sighed: "Who says otherwise? I'd rather eat dog food than be like this."
No matter what they thought, Chi Xia and Han Junche's relationship had not returned to what it used to be. Although the group was anxious, they were helpless.
Unbeknownst to them, the group had entered the territory of H City. Inside a high-rise building in the center of H City, someone slowly opened their eyes.
